please let us have a buyable skill unlock

I ran a pledge the other night and one of the group members had caltrops. That was the first time I saw it in action, and holy hell, do I need it now. I finally understood how getting the speed run achievement on Darkshade Caverns could actually be possible!

Problem is I apparently would have to earn a million AP points to unlock the skill, which means doing nothing but PvP for months. I hate PvP, so that is pretty much out of the question - if I have to do something I hate for that long to progress in a game, I'd rather switch to another game.

Hence this plea - let us have an alternative version of unlocking skills. A rune or a potion from an NPC merchant, or a scroll from the crown store at least. Make it cost a million gold - I don't insists on getting it being easy. Just achievable while doing the content I enjoy. Please?

A perfectly reasonable suggestion that will be shot down by pvp players faster than you can say "purchasable monster sets".

    1. You don't need a specific skill to do speed runs, you need to know what you're doing. If you believe you need caltrops for that, you have A LOT to learn.
    2. You want a skill, you work for it.
    3. I'm not a PvP player.

But I do want to work for it! I just want a way of working for it that I wouldn't hate. That's why I think the unlock should be insanely expensive.
    2. This is a straight up P2W idea.

True, a crown store option would have been. I'd much prefer it being buyable for gold myself.

Suggesting it be purchasable with crowns would be P2W, but he said he'd be fine with it being obtainable in-game by other means.

I think the better solution would be to allow both the Alliance Skill lines and Undaunted Skill line to be level in alternative ways.

    That's a very fair compromise.

The OP's suggestion at the core is to have some way to alleviate the INTENSE grind that is the alliance war skill line. It's potentially months of grind for a player that doesn't do much pvp and this is on each and every toon that wants those skills. While the undaunted skill line doesn't take near as much grind, it is fair to allow some other method to level both sets of skills so that players that prefer one style of play over another can advance their characters and learn skills that are useful for their play style that have been locked behind a play style they do not enjoy.

I wish that PvP skills had been locked in PvP areas from the start. Somehow people did dungeons, even speedruns before they had caltrops and prox det. Now all the PvE players complain that they don't have easy access to these "necessary" skills. Vigor is really the only "necessary" skill for stamnia users and only really necessary for things like PvP (where it orginated) and VMA. You don't need vigor for most of this games solo content and for everything else it is group content.

I want Caltrops too, but I'm putting in the PVP time to earn it. Just as I did the dungeon pledges for Undaunted skills and passives. You don't have to use Caltrops to get the Darkshade speed achievement. My group has done it without using it.

Once you gather enough gold to get an unlock, you can use it on whichever skill (available to you, let's not go crazy and mix classes) you want. If you have use for an Undaunted skill, go for it.

NOPE! I am not a PvP player for the most part, but definitely did my time for Caltrops. This is on the spectrum of pay 2 win, and not a good idea. Join a PvP guild and you will have them in a week or 2. Caltrops are nice, but you dont need them for any dungeon achievement in this game. Caltrops will not instantly make you double your DPS, plus THEY DONT STACK. If someone in your group already had them, they would do you no good anyways.

Now making alliance rank account wide so I dont have to grind it on my alts, I am 100% on board with doing ASAP.

The reason Darkshade speedrun is tough is for a few reasons, none of which caltrops solve. First, people have terrible ranged DPS and cant stack-n-wack the last boss. Two, they dont understand mechanics of some of the other fights. The netch fight can be chaotic and causes wipes on a lot of groups. Three, they forget to take out the little mob in the corner you are supposed to do before the netch fight. I always forget that part when helping people get achievements and we have to run back. Ironically enough, I did that yesterday when taking my sorc through there the first time. Haha

Dear god. Just....no. If you want the skill, earn the skill.

Much like the quests, dolmen, delves and skyshards in Cyrodiil being available by going to Cyrodiil, the skills are there for you to earn.

Also, I'm a PVEer. And I think this is a horrible idea.

Yup, because PvPers have always been given so many things. Like plenty of gear we can buy at max level with AP, right? They always pander to us needy PvPers.

The ONLY set of gear that has ever been worth anything from PvP was (WAS!) the Ravager set, let alone them waiting months after a level cap raise to scale the PvP sets. There's a reason people have literally millions of AP stashed.... There's nothing to spend it on.

No. It's bad enough we can buy the Werewolf and Vampire Skill Lines straight up already but directly buying skills is taking it too far.

I understand your frustration, I truly do, but I would really hate to see this happen. As someone mentioned earlier - you don't buy skills, you work for them. And you don't have to PvP alone! Guilds are a great way to run through Cyrodiil and also when you finally unlock it...YAAAASSSSS.

Plus it would annoy the hooey out of me to see low-level alts with the Caltrops ability simply because their main had enough gold to get it for them. But that's minor. Grind it out and take pride in your accomplishment!

Just a little reminder: They are planning to put merchant with Monster sets. I am not 100% sure if this will be only for AP and what parts/traits/kind of armor would it be. Lets say it will be only for AP, then in that case you need to give something for exchange, PvP player happy and PvE player happy.
Now will you excuse me, need to grind my Dunmer lower part of back to get Vigor.

i'm a PvE and i am badly against this or ANY P2W. i do PvP from time to time so i don't do the grind to long. dailys help to progress ap skill lines. NEVER EVER ADD P2W. we already have exp scrolls. that's a thin line to cross to make it really P2W
