Questions and Feedback - Player Migrating from Oblivion and Skyrim to ESO

Hyphastion
Hello ESP Community,

I has been a week now since i began at ESO. I have played every Elder Scrolls game since Oblivion and i do believe the "Best 2015 MMORPG" is very deserved. Here in Brazil ESO is raising to popularity right now, specially on console. But, as a player who is old and veteran to these games some questions arise. And i would like to address them to the community. Post´s and Reply´s are welcome !

=> Yes, ESO is NOT Skyrim. But it IS a Elder Scrolls. I understand that. This is a MMORPG focused on team work and not trying to do everything by yourself and going where you wont to anytime (Skyrim). There is no comparing them and one should never expect to find on ESO what he/her had on Skyrim. I almost got "Platinum Trophy" for Skyrim, take it from me.... ESO IS NOT SKYRIM !

=> Please note that my experience in both Oblivion and Skyrim were on an Assassin build. heavily dependent on stealth. So my questions kind of come from this point of view.

1º - About the Mechanics (for an Assassin):

Sneaking is almost the same as previous games. it rewards a player who knows how to use it. But the very first thing that caught my attention was that when i got my bow for a "sneak attack", after the first shot got fired i would always leave the "sneak stance" and stand straight up !! The hell....? That is like yelling
"- It was me !! Here i am !!!"

In both Oblivion and Skyrim, you could fire as many arrows you wanted from a concealed stealth stance and put down enemies without them even knowing what killed them. The very ESSENCE of a stealth oriented character is to NEVER GET CAUGHT ! Please fix this and allow stealthy players to play as a true "Shadow Master".

2º - No Poisoning Arrows and Blades ?

Come on.... I´m an Assassin ! Jesus coating poison is "killing 101". I am developing Alchemy alright, but i cant create poisons and cote my weapons with it. I depend on skills. In previous games, if you mastered Alchemy, you could create some DEVASTATING poisons that would give you the edge on a fight. Specially "Boss Fight´s"

3º - By Sithis.... Where is the Dark Brotherhood ?

Again. Assassin here. I don´t belong in the Fighter Guild or Mages Guild. I do very much belong in the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild.

Since you GIVE SKILL TREE´s for these, you have to allow other classes to join there own "Alma Mater". If a Sword-fighter joins the Fighter Guild, he benefits from the skill tree. What about Stealth oriented characters ? Game is unbalanced until then. Because all classes need a Guild that suits them. We need Sithis, our mommy. Please bring here back ! With an Assassin Skill Tree !! *_*

4º - Last but not Least... The Range.

Or more precisely, the lack of it.... In previous games, i could hit a target in my sight regardless of distance. In ESO it is to close. "Danger Close" applies here. An "Archer-Sniper" is not what i wont. That would be to much. But please, increase Range. Sometimes i fire arrows VERY CLOSE to a target and nothing happens. Then i close in (like in front of him) and it OK >_>

That´s it. I am loving this game ! A very well job done here. Stuff to fix as any MMORPG but ESO is the biggest and most absorbing MMO experience i ever had ! Took me 30 hours to get Lv 15, then i zoomed out and saw how big this game is. Nice !

Cheers

Sadly, you missed playing the best one of them all. Morrowind.Oblivion was pretty much a cakewalk-junk,and Skyrim was great,..until the bug that wouldnt let me continue the quest line to become an Imperial soldier. It was part of the main quest and that was when I kinda left it.I still have it,but it kinda just sits there in my Steam.
    I DO,however,play Morrowind still. :}

The Dark Brotherhood will be coming out around mid next year, thieves guild will be out early next year, so hopefully some of your requests will be fufilled when they do. Poisoning in at least some form seems likely since there are already some negative traits in ingrediants, it just needs to be able to be applied to weapons.

    1. So you should be able to hit anyone repeatedly until they die ...as they cant respond with any kind of attack ? LOL ! You broke cover (stealth advantage) when you landed the hit. Cloak again if you want to go back in the shadows.
    2. There is disease/poison enchantments you can add to weapons. This may be improved when said guild DLC drops.
    3. Dark brotherhood and thieves guild is coming SOON{tm}!
    4. Different bow skills have different ranges. Its on the tooltip. There is also buffs to enhance range.

Firstly, Welcome! Listen to the others here, but if they become too upset over your ideas then don't take it personally; we've had quite a few people come through feeling entitled to silly things and not listening to reason. So long as you poke the bear, you'll do just fine!

I have but one thing to say about your suggestions however; because ESO has PvP and auto-targeting, your first and fourth suggestions will be very, very OP or hard to balance. I seem to remember the poisons being mentioned to be added eventually, but there are skills and enchants that do this for you. The DB will be coming in ~6 months, after the Thieves Guild, but both will be DLC content however.
I have departed into the great unknown that is outside the game and the forums, and wish you well in your Tamriel adventures!

First of all thanks for all the reply´s !

Just to be clear on Nº 1...

it´s not about shooting as much as you wont and not getting detected. In the previous ones, you did not stand up after a shot. if you Sneak inside enemy lines, just to loose you cover on the first shot, then what is the point ?

Granted, this could become VERY OP if not properly balanced with PvE enemy's having some more "detection" capabilities. But still, it need a buff/arrange.

I still have not gotten myself killed in game using Stealth and Bow Sneak Attacks, but i think, overall, the "Assassin" class of the game need a nudge in to the right spot. I see other classes also have issues, like Mages and Sword-Fighters. But since i have NO experience in playing as one i keep out of saying anything.

    @Off topic question@

Do you guys think players with "Stealth Builds" are a little to SOLO-GAME oriented ? Or do we have a spot in a party ? As a main DPS for example ?

Thanks again for all posts and reply´s !

Well, end-game PvE fights are quite long, say about a couple of minutes, and you'll be able to hit from stealth only once...you can see by yourself that that single hit will be negligible. The "assassin" playstyle is rather a solo/small group PvP thing. The reason simply being that in this case fights are way shorter, so that first hit matters, and can actually be deadly.

As to questing/leveling, I am actually having a lot of fun playing a nightblade kitten. But again, this is because I can 1-shot most of my targets. This wouldn't happen in serious end-game PvE content.

By the way, you totally need fighter's guild skills! Bow + Silver Shards is a deadly combination!

    Hey d8mir,

Thanks for the input ! Didn´t know about that fighter guild skill you mentioned.

I had already given a thought about end-game vs my build. True, since this is a MMORPG, an Assassin trying to sneak on a an end-game boss would be a FAIL ! That´s why i have been giving my "Main Back-Up" a serious thought... I wanted just a single swrod, not a Two-Handed one (to clumsy for me...). I think a Sword or Dagger lools good and also relates to an Assassin build. But, the skill tree mentions "Sword and Shield" hence i do not know if i will ever be able to use just a sword with no shield. If i cant, then it´s a Two-Handed one....

By what i read here, Nightblades that use Bow´s normally use 2H Sword as back-up.
