The only way to consistently lower the prices is simply to increase supply or reduce demand.
You can get an add on that will tell you average prices of just about everything. As more people use that add on price extremes will naturally get closer together. Also the add on will show you really good deals as you are looking for other items. People will take advantage when they see an item on sell for half what the average price is whether they are trying to corner a market or not.
And some people play the game to make gold. To them that is the fun part of the game. They will naturally drift towards the trade guilds with the better locations. Just like some guilds specialize in PvP and can dominate a map these guilds specialize in trading and will dominate the best locations and also have an affect on prices of rare items.
Just a part of the game and nothing wrong with it.

His internal pain must be so deep.

Auction house or not, OP is clearly stating that the problem is the lack of built-in antitrust laws within the trading system, which is entirely true.
There is absolutely nothing preventing a guild right now from visiting all the guild traders to purchase all the tempering alloy or dreugh wax.
The lack of global auction house certainly makes the process tedious for a single player, but easily feasible at a guild level with a concerted effort.
The guild traders are a fake solution to a real problem. The real solutions are built-in antitrust laws.

This is ridiculous. In a free market economy there should be no such thing as an antitrust law.
Everyone has equal access to all of the items whether through refining or through purchase. People being lazy should never be a reason to short cut a system.
The current system of 'this is my price, take it or leave it' is the best way for it to be. You do not have to pay it. You can obtain the goods yourself.
The inflation is due to an endless influx of new gold with insufficient gold sinks.
Lol probably my fault, decided to go on my old ps4 acc a few days back, had 3 or so mill gold sitting in bank, all my friends had stopped playing, so went to crag , bought nearly every gold temper there was regardless of price, made some random gold gear for a few alts and my vr1 nb just to see how the battle leveling calculated his stats .
3 mil on gold tempers is...a fair few.

Problem solved. It's all Zornyan's fault. Sacrifice him to the gear gods and the prices will go down.

Zeni allowed pc players to port over all there inventory and gold at release. These players already had a years worth of goods and gold. Some pc guilds even pooled all there gold on to 1 person to port over so they got all this gold to start with. This causes problems later on when the stock drys up. The ps4 players have benefitted from a market that was not right. It is now only starting to adjust. Zeni should have NEVER allowed pc transfers. I understand why they did but it caused a market that was ballooned with supply and no demand due to new players just starting the game.
One of the other big issues is the players who spent 12 hours a day farming pigs in a barn. Not to mention all the other ways that people exploited the ways to get d. wax. This was allowed to occur for over a month before it was patched. I personally know of a guy who did it over and over everyday until it was fixed and stockpiled to sell later. This supply is now drying up as these exploits are fixed. Can't honestly blame the players when this was a dev screw up.
I run a very large trade guild. (1000 members and 2 traders) 1 trader in elden root and one in wayrest. The guild I run does not control any prices on anything. I don't force members to price things a certain way and I do not have people go out and run traders for low price items. We are donation based. We survive solely on donations, tax revenue from sales and raffle entries. I have maintained a trader in wayrest week in and week out with only a few times losing.
Now to the author of this thread. I believe you where in my guild in fact even on my friends list. Could you please tell me a time when I forced you to sell something at a certain price or to go out and browse traders for low price items to flip? In fact I have never even charged you a fee or even talked to you. I have allowed you to sell at one of the best locations in the game with no charge so I don't really understand why you would think that all the main large trading guilds are controlling the market. Because with 1000 members and 2 traders every week I am the leader of one of those large trade guilds and I do not try to control any market. I simply try to win my bid each week.
There is less than 10 key spots to visit to control more than half of the market.
They are buying them up for sure. I won't name names but join a trading guild and watch the sales. Certain people buy up everything low and relist high
