Maintenance for the week of December 22:

• EU megaservers for maintenance – December 22, 4:00AM EST (9:00 UTC) - 8:00AM EST (13:00 UTC)

As much as i love ESO, this thing really bothers me in questing.

I am currently vet 16, doing Cadwell's gold in DC, and while i like that there's lore on every quests more than other games have on their fetch quests ,couple recent quests have gone like this (and they're not the only ones):

One was at glenumbra (if i remember correctly), involved a lighthouse and a pirate ship. I collected lighthouse stuff, went to the ship to get some oil, went back to the lighthouse to light it, went back to the ship to kill the captain. Killed the same enemies 3 times while running back and forth since most of them had spawned.

Just a minute ago did one in Stormhaven, that first involved getting three artifacts, all different corners of the quest area. Got them, killed the enemies on the way. After getting the artifacts went to captured NPC, found a key, ran back to the north (and killed the same enemies on the way) to close a box, then i ran back to the south to close another box (while dodging and taking hits from enemies i killed just a while ago), then back to the center to kill the quest boss.

The reason i wrote description's of those quests is that it sounds so senseless when thinking about it :D I like the lore yes, but when i'm bored i just don't care. and i wouldn't want ESO to make me bored. Do we really need 40+ fetch quests per area? I can understand the point that it adds into gaming time "we have over 1000 quests!", but is there really any sense making quantity over quality?

I like the endgame, i don't mind grinding for ancient orc motifs at Wrothgar, or doing pledges again and again to get achievements full. I can always try to do dungeon better, that's what drives me forward in them. But running mindlessly from point a to point b to point a to point c quests after quests, area after area for a very minimal reward of about 100g (and i have to accept those green pants, or that green dagger if i want to complete the quest) is what kills my joy for eso.

I know how you feel but I think there is more to it then filling areas with "senseless " quests.
Bigger quests with acting, dungeons and twisted plots need a lot of time to be written and made. Lesser good quests with bigger EP would make the World look shallow.
So they need to fill the World with these "stupid" quests.
I don't like them neither but for me and I think others they are at least better then cave-grinding in Cyrodill.
And one have to say, the well written, sad, funny or touching quests way overweight the stupid walking / fetching ones.

    Im feeling with you.
But honestly, this Is an mmorpg, try to Imagine one without Those Routine runs (fetch this, Collect that). I cant. But in the Case of eso, I like it alot. But I know one thing: I See a reason for Most Quests like These. They are just like Small bridges between dialogues, so i can learn more about the Lore and Culture of each Race etc.
The Quests are not like "Hey im busy kill 20 of this AND that And Collect 17734 nirnroots for the lulz" they Tell Something about the World and its possibilities.^^

I like the telling about the world part yes. It's just the pointless running that bothers me in the quest itself, like for example that lighthouse quests could have gone like:"Fetch some oil for the fire from the ship, and oh, kill the evil captain while you're there."
Not like:"Hey, fetch some oil from the ship, then come back here and light this lighthouse signal fire, and go back to the ship to kill the captain, and kill the same dudes on the way again"

Especially when pressed for time between school, work and hobbies, it sometimes gets annoying, when i see no real reason of running between quest points, you know. It feels those are done just to increase the duration of the quests to make the game take longer to complete. And it's not fun, even if the story itself was interesting on the quest (as it usually is).

I hate fetch quests myself. I would rather pick up a quest and be sent to an area like a small dungeon with puzzles and such. The worst kind of quests are the one the OP describes....fetch or kill something at location A, turn it in, run back to location A one or two more times. I appreciate quests where they flow a bit better and not make you backtrack to the same point again and again. It becomes very redundant and annoying. I do have to say though that ESO doesn't have too many of these quests that stick out in my mind like some other MMOs I've played before. Overall the quest flow seems okay.

As much as I loved Lord of the Rings Online at the time, they seemed to have an over abundance of these quests...uggg. I still remember collecting boar meat and other quest items from critters---shudders. It still gives me nightmares lol. Rift also seemed to have many of these quests. Did not care for them at all.

That is the exact reason why I haven't even completed silver. I just pvp all day now and don't deal with quests because they do seem very mindless

What bothers me the most is leveling alts, I simply cannot re-do all quests again. I've done nearly all quest in the starter zone and Cadwell silver & gold with my main. Which took an immense amount of hours, reading all dialogues and doing the quests. Some were quite good, some were quite repetitive and boring. But now when i'm leveling alts I skip all dialogues and try to get to the quest zone asap.
I wish there was some alternative way of leveling alts. With one of my alts I try to level in IC and I think i'm going to Orsinium to level some other alt who is below level 50, but is that feasible?
Deep inside me a voice tells me that I need to do all main quests with my alts. But now i'm at my fifth alt and doing the same starter quest is a real pain. Sometimes I wish there were more different starter zones for each faction. Doing Stros'Mkai and Bethnik for the fifth gets quite old. And yeah i'm one of those guys who stays with one Alliance. DC for the win! B)

I think the same. After I saw the whole quests and dialogues often enough already, im tired of running around and listening to everything the 5th or so time. Giving the option to skip 1-2 cadwell zones (1-2 in silver, 1-2 in gold) , giving every exp from quests /bosses/dungeons possible and marking the whole zones map as completed. Requirement: Have 1-2 v16 chars?
