A Player Housing Dream

I for one would love to see player housing come to ESO, but it must be done right. I am a huge Skyrim fan and would using housing from Skyrim as the model for my suggestions.

1. Allow for multiple different types of houses/estates- perhaps based off class. My main is a mage. I really want to be able to build my own mage tower.
2. Allow for further customization based off of race- perhaps architecture, but at least through banners and flags etc. I want a large AD flag on my tower.
3. Allow for separate rooms with differing functions, like in Skyrim. Have a forge in the basement with crafting stations and storage room for mats. Include armor stands and display boxes. Allow your personal forge a unique selectable buff like the stations in the wilds have.

Along with a forge a library, Kitchen, Bedroom, Bathhouse, Magic study, Trophy room, employable guards, farm land, livestock etc...
A. The library could display all the books that you have read on your adventures, each readable again. Perhaps it could allow you to collect sets for unique buffs or skill improvements.
B. The Kitchen obviously would allow you to cook and provide storage for your food materials.
C. Bathhouse could allow you to bathe and perhaps increase the rate at which you gain experience in your skill lines (cleanliness buff :D)
D. Trophy Room could display your most potent opponents- Deadra, dragons, bears etc.
E. Study could have an enchanting table with mat storage a unique buff for using it.
F. Bedroom which when used at night gives you a well rested experience bonus.

4. Allow this housing to be used anywhere outside city limits. Want your tower in the middle of the forest? Fine! Want it at the foot of a volcano, okay! Allow friends to see the location of your home and allow unwelcome guests the chance to break in and steal something. Hire guards to defend your home while you are away.
5. Allow the professions to make craftable items for the home such as beds for carpentry, drapes for clothing, bars on the windows for metalworking, seeds for provisioning etc...
6. Allow the home to be subject to the environment and creatures around it. If you build it next to deadra have them attack the home and perhaps set fire to a wing. Have traders come by and offer to sell rare goods, have a band of giants attack and scare off your cows! Pick your location carefully.

There is so much that can be done that would incentivise people to want to spent time in their homes and have other people visit. You would want to search out and try and find other people's homes and see what rare treasures you may be able to steal. It would add a whole new dimension and immersion to the game.

I'd like to not see housing in a separated instance, such as in LoTRO. There's no reason for people to go there to visit or see others houses, the instances are typically in the middle of nowhere in starting zones, further limiting reasons for higher scaled players to venture in to. In an ideal world, it would be similar to Asheron's Calls housing, where the houses were scattered throughout the open world. Those days behind us, and the maps in ESO are already tightly packed, I don't see that as a working option. I'm interested to see how they handle that aspect.

Beyond that, just let us put items we want where we want to put them, instead of hooks that only allow certain things to be put there.

Personally, and really no offense to everyone who wants rhis, I wish they would hold off on fluff like housing and fix the major issues in the game (esp pvp lag).

The theft thing would be no good... unless you made it like stealable generated items.

Loved the housing in skyrim too, I spent so much time making my home, then protecting my cow from giants.

Lie your ideas (I doubt we'll see housing anywhere...) wouldn't mind a neighborhood either to be honest lol

I agree that we should be able to decide what it looks like, what the rooms are for, the style of furniture, & what is displayed in the trophy cases.

but I'm afraid open world housing is very unlikely, knowing what the players would do with it.
    *lol*

at the very least there should be a housing option in every architectural style of the 9 alliance cultures.
& personally I'm hoping for a player housing option on EVERY one of the main Maps!

An extra little path on the side of a hill, and you walk into the housing shard.

To those of us who want the housing, and housing was part of the reason we purchased and supported this game from day one, it's not fluff. The fluff is pvp. I don't care if I never see any pvp. Never.

I was extremely disappointed when they didn't have jewelry making and housing in the betas prior to launch. I expected Skyrim housing. I still do. Complete with nearly unlimited storage and crafting in the house and basement. I expect to have to defend my house from criminals from time to time.

I want to be able to adopt children and pets, and marry a thane or a royal or an;y other NPC of my choice and hire NPCs that I can interact with players like in Skyrim. Pretty much I want them to take Skyrim and put it into ESO.

I want to be able to put my collected trophies and the gifts given when quests are completed on the wall or in show cases. I want all the books, journals, papers and letters I have collected to be in bookcases.

I want to be able to do all the crafting in the house, just like in Skyrim. I want to be able to place the vases and plates and silverware and every other item how I want, just like in Skyrim. If I want to put a pile of food on the floor, so be it. Or if I want to arrange my herbs in a vase or bowl on the table, I can. I liked putting the scrolls in the baskets. They looked really nice that way. I want chickens, cows and a horse.

I hated LoTR and SWTOR housing/strongholds. It was terrible.

More than once I have thought about stopping this sub and going back to Skyrim because I hate pvp that much, and all this time later there is still no jewel crafting and no housing. They keep saying, "soon". They keep saying it is promised, but no evidence of them working on it.

Some of it they have done, but not the parts that were important to our family that motivated us to pre-order the game times three copies. There is no such thing as a "full" map. There are abandoned houses throughout Tamriel, as well as tons of vacant land and farm land where houses and farms could be built.

I agree that housing should be an instance for each player, but I think we should be able to invite friends to our homes, and that they should not be allowed to steal from us. We should be allowed to have as many homes as we can afford in any part of the world.

I am not in favor of instanced housing. I want everything to exist in the game world. That adds to the immersion and the fun.

It will for a short time, until you realise that a). there are a very limited amount of houses, and they're all owned by the trading guilds that can pay the most for them, or b). if you can just set up a house anywhere, the world will be crowded and very ugly and would make me want to scream.

Instanced is the only way to go that promotes fairness, hopefully with the ability to share the house with friends, or just invite them around with privacy limits on what they can interact with.
I have departed into the great unknown that is outside the game and the forums, and wish you well in your Tamriel adventures!

This. A good example is GTA 5 online mode. You have apartments and can invite others.

I prefer the instances in town or at least an option for it to be where everything is. But the one in Asheron's call would be acceptable as long as they don't do a housing zone. they become ghost towns after a while with empty lots everywhere
