That's exactly how I felt, and after I found out that I was meant to go off and do the starter islands first, they really helped me to get a better feel for the game. Plus they got me a bunch of gear that helped me out. Many of us have been complaining to ZOS that they should switch it back to starting on the starter islands for a long time though... I don't expect them to suddenly listen now (although I would love to be proven wrong on that).Exactly!Yes! Take the boat! That's the quest I'm talking about, and it sounds like your logic for not doing it is the exact same as my logic when i first started playing way back on PC launch day. Take the boat! It will take you to the area that's actually designed to teach you the game.
Edit: more than anything else, this is the advice I wish someone had given me back when I first started playing. It just didn't seem logical to me that you would immediately take a boat to go away from the zone you were in before you went and did everything in that zone.
Yeah, it seemed like a breadcrumb quest to lead me to the next zone. It didn't feel right to leave - I had open ended quests and was working on crafting, and for all I knew this city was the starting area. I guess I go to that island and then return once I'm done?
This is all the fault of a few vocal idiots during beta. They complained loudly that they started on the starter islands, because they wanted to go right to the main zones. Unfortunately ZOS listened to them, and prior to launch they changed the starting location to the major city of the first main zone. So now the place where you start after the initial tutorial isn't actually the starter zone...
This makes me very happy - not the situation, but that this place exists. I felt a little thrown-into-the-fire, and I'm a veteran MMO player. I'll go do that island first thing. I kind of hope Zenimax sees this thread now.

So I got accepted to the only guild I applied to, received my invitation, and when I joined, said 'hello' to the guild and nothing... Checked the guild roster thinking maybe no one was on since it was late, there were 20-something people online. Said 'hi' again a bit later, nothing... Played for three hours, not a word in guild chat. I think I'll be finding another guild!

Yeah, it's possible some/most/all of them were AFK or otherwise not paying attention to the chat window. I know that when I'm in a group dungeon, or a tough fight, or in a PVP zone I pretty much forget that the chat window even exists. Actually, the same goes for when I'm chatting with guildies on teamspeak - I can only pay attention to so many things at once.So I got accepted to the only guild I applied to, received my invitation, and when I joined, said 'hello' to the guild and nothing... Worth it to note that even if guild members are showing online in the roster, it doesn't mean they're in guild chat - so maybe you weren't being ignored after all! I'm not sure what keys you need to press on PC to see who's in your active chat (area, group, or guild) but on Xbox if I hit menu then Y, I can see a list who is currently mic'd on the channel. I'm in 5 guilds and almost none of them use guild chat although they're very active in groups. You may want to send a mail/message or group invite to a few guildies requesting help or companionship (whatever your goals are) as that may be the best way to make contact for that particular guild.
Good luck to you!

Thanks folks. I'm on US/DC/PC.
Also, my bags are ALWAYS full. I'm trying to gather and steal as much as I can, and it seems I can't get through ten minutes out in the world without bags getting full. I bought the first bag upgrade, but the next is 2000g. Any other solutions for this?

That's what the "mule alt" mentioned before is about. Just take a few minutes and make another character (good chance to mess around with another role), then park it in front of the bank in the starter town. Buy it 1 bag upgrade, then have it go in to the bank and withdraw stuff you aren't using at the moment to free up bank space.
