Spell POWER vs Spell DAMAGE ... DEV's Please Weigh in!

Ok, to be clear, when looking at your character stats, the only listing is SPELL DAMAGE:

However, there are pieces of gear that use a different stat called SPELL POWER.

Unfortunately, it's not that easy to quantify since there are procs that only work "while channeling/casting" such as with the 5 piece bonus of the Soulshine set.

I have heard many a rumor, I have never seen anything definitive.

*** NOTE *** I welcome anyone with a good explanation to chime in, however, I would love to see the Dev's to confirm, as I have not since early release seen or heard a reasonable explanation.

Thanks!

I think that the spell damage is based on your weapon, enchants, sets bonuses etc...
and spell power is the final damage dealt by spells after all the calculations.

I don't have any source, but that's how I understand it.

So if I understand you correctly: The fifth set bonus of the Soulshine set isn't all that great, becuase it only adds a small amount of damage, while channeling/casting? (Somewhere in the region of 160 to 180 damage on top of everything else, at VR 6 to 10, is a *** in the Missisippi, isn't it?) And does the frase "while casting or channeling" mean it only applies to spells with channel time?
