Unable to link xbox account to PC account

I've got a PC ESO account and I'm trying to link it to my XBL account to play for the free weekend, but it keeps telling me the account/password is invalid, but I know the credentials are correct. Can I not link it if I don't actually own the game on the XBO?

Surragard✭✭✭✭Character copy is not currently available. You will need to make a new character to play on Xbox anyway so you may as well make a new account for the weekend trial. To actually correct the issue though, I would recommend submitting a support ticket.I don't always drink Skooma, but when I do I go to the Southwall Corner Club.
