Linking items in chat would still be done the exact same way, through your inventory select menu.
I've seen DCUO and seen it on PS4.
The game is of no interest to me.
I will say that how the text chat is done there under different circumstances due to cross play and because the game pad controls differ from ESO.
When PC and console are going to play together then it's a completely different methodology ...this isn't ESO

This IS eso Lol... and whether you care for DCUO or not wasn't the point. And their controls do not differ as much as you think. You press the censor pad to bring up the chat window on there, I already suggested something that would work in place of that since that button opens your map and long press mounts your horse. I was merely refering to a working text chat system that works the same way in console as it does PC, the only difference being one is done with a mouse and keyboard, the other with a controller.
Anyway, it's up to the devs, I'm just trying to point out that there is absolutely no reason for consoles not to have a text chat system and tons of reasons to have one. Better communication for the community, better grouping options, better selling options, better help options, better options all around.
Headed to bed, night all and good luck in all of your endeavors

That's funny, because I've done the research. The only reasons ZOS gave was console players having a hard time using a keyboard and reading a text box from their couches. Both reasons being complete BS. So if you would kindly link where you read that it's MS & Sonys fault, I'll believe it.
I think they should have wrote that ZOS decided to remove text chat development after being forced to provide voice chat for Sony and Xbox. I'm not sure if one company pushed and another didn't but the end result is that when they have the 6 to 12+ month delay....once voice chat was confirmed, text chat was out.
I will say having played both PC and Xbox one....voice chat is the best option for a game pad regardless of anyone's preferences and setup. Even on PC using the game pad UI, text chat still requires you to have a mouse so that you can fully use it vs just having to type.
In the end, what exists is best for consoles and what exists is best for PC.
Until consoles have full mouse support, this doesn't make a lot of sense because text chat isn't just typing....it's a whole unique community and a totally different type of communication form that will for sure seperate groups of ppl
When is it required to have a mouse for a chat? Are you talking to simply click on the chat bar so you can start typing? Lol, several ways around that... One, make it a bound to a button to bring it up... Or put it in the your settings list of somewhere in your character sheet. Or you could even set it up in your emote list so you can access it by by the emote wheel... Very simple...
Also I'm not for getting rid of voice chat, just adding in text chat so we can have both.... PC games don't need voice chat because there are several, several, SEVERAL options available to download for that and all for free...
Voice chat is not the best option, the best option is to be able to choose which option works best for what you're trying to achieve.... If I am in Elden Root trying to sell something with 100 other people talking, no one can hear me talking or they get sick of me saying the same thing over and over....

Haha whatever dude that was the topic. The topic was zone chats and what not and being able to use second screen. They won't make a standalone app for the game because it wouldn't be widely usable by all the players. If they were going to allow zone chat they would do so in game and your second screen would simply allow you to type easier. As for me and him fighting, we weren't. We were having a discussion and a debate on why we think zone chat would and would not work and I was giving further suggestions as to how to go about doing it. Don't like people commenting on the topic you started? Don't start one in the future then.

But ZoS has said they don't want players stopping to type out and read text chat all the time threw their controller's and the in game UI. I see a simple fix for this. Both ps4 and xbox have 2nd screen options threw phone apps, I think a nice idea would be to put a zone chat as a 2nd screen option most games have these xbox glass companion apps or whatever ps4 has. It would simply link to your account in game and when you log in it would display the current zones chat on your phone if you had the app up. I would love this for PVP on console. Right now if your just not in the right place at the right time it can be hard to find a group. What do you all think?

One of my guild members doesn't have a headset and had to use the chatroom on our guild site to communicate with us during an Undaunted run. It worked fine and all but the thing is it works both ways with voice and text chat, but at least text chat always has a default tool, regardless of how clunky.

Great Idea....
You could do something to the affect of Fallout 4's "Pipboy App"
I believe a stand-alone model would be better then one tied into the "smart-glass" appCrowsDescend wrote: »I know it might be hard to believe for some people, but try to keep in mind that not everyone has a phone to even use these kind of apps.
If this is true, people can always buy a cheap smartphone/tablet that doesnt need a service provider (friend gives you old phone) and still use the Wi-Fi capabilities to download the app and use it to text chat.
