Breton Dragonknight Healer

After wanting to test the waters with alternatives to Templar healers (I rate Templars as my least favorite class in ESO; I just can't get into them), I created a Breton DK whom I was grooming as a healer. I did some reading and much like the Discipline Priest from WoW, this setup relies mainly on shielding incoming damage with supplementary healing.

I ranked up to VR's and looked at some builds. Tried it out in some dungeons. Promptly switched over to a DPS stamina build with 2-hand/1-h and shield arrangement. This setup is pretty nice.

I'm looking to go back to a healer build as another post here in the forums piqued my interest. Someone mentioned having a friend who runs a DK healer and the shields are, in a word, beastly. Something like 4x the health bar and the tank didn't even need to block (in vWGT) at all, that's how impressive these shields are.

I'm baffled at how these types of shields are produced. I am sure the CP's go into shield-strength increase, there's no doubt about that. But as I recall, when I ran my DK as a healer (she's now VR11, I think she was VR5 or so at the time), my shields were no where near this magnitude of power. Luckily we had our Templar healer running with us in the dungeon (don't remember which one) because my shields were pitiful and could really not add anything to the role I was attempting.

Can someone perhaps give me some insight into what I should be looking for if I do want to switch my Breton DK back into a healer?

Thanks to any responses that are helpful ;)

I play a DK healer, currently moving through Cad's Silver.

Bastion does a lot to increase the power of my shields, it's an often overlooked CP dump.

I've healed a VR5 VGWT run, we had very few problems (the biggest being when folks spread too far to heal consistently with anything other than Ward). I'm convinced that the DK healer can do healing well, he's just a matter of learning to play such a different style than other types of healers (such as a lack of BoL).

I've always loved healers and in this game I've considered it a personal challenge to play something other than a Templar healer. I've got a NB healer almost to VR10 and dig it. I'm willing to give my DK a makeover back to healer but think I just need to figure out what I need to do to really jack that shield strength.

It's too bad DKs don't have a lot in terms of more shield options.

Yeah, Igneous does a lot, but not as much as I'd like and honestly it should do more as far as I'm concerned.

I wish they'd buff the heal on Obsidian Shard so that it did more than just whoever was closest to the enemy. I wouldn't even mind if they got rid of the stun and just ramped up the damage and heal.

Hahaha, was it my post you saw by chance?:D
Our tank still did block, me as dps didn't really have to bother much though. Bastion probably had something to do with it, also Barrier;)

It may very well have been your post ;)

I forgot about Barrier. I don'y find myself in PvP too often as I'm not that great at it and the lag in Cyrodiil has left me booted right out of the game during peak hours. I'll have to revisit my DK as a healer because I like changing things up from time to time. I really enjoy the NB healer though and she's the one I'm focused on for the time being.

@Xellos77, Barrier has a relatively low requirement - alliance war level 5 I think? It is pretty easy to get by some PvPing and, who knows, maybe you'll like it in the process;) My DK healing buddy had to go PvP for it as well since he's all PvE usually but it didn't take long and he seemed to have some fun in the meanwhile. Barrier worked really great with his build though.

I may have to take my DK and do some switching things around. Take a stroll or ten through Cyrodiil.

@Magdalina thanks for the insight and positive feedback ;)

Yep, PvP is my next stop on my DK Healer. Barrier is too useful and important (since we don't have nova) to ignore.
