Does your Pet or Mount Influence the Animals You Kill

I was out in Wrothgar the other day and was watching a Bear. It started making all kinds of noise and gesticulating and I was wondering what it was doing. It was calling to its cub who had gone wandering off. It was so sweet to see that. I then went along and was doing some farming and another bear attacked me, as they do, so I killed it. Then I looked down at my Bear Cub pet that was scampering along behind me, and it gave me a look that made me feel guilty. Yes, I am anthropomorphizing a pixel pet in a game. So, now if I have my Bear Cub pet with me, I don't kill bears unless I absolutely have to, won't kill lions and the like if I have my Senche pet with me etc.

So, I was wondering, do others limit what they kill based on the Mount or Pet they have with them?

I ran into this problem when I got to Rivenspire and discovered that I could kill the goats there. Getting game from them was nice, but I felt bad about killing them in front of my goat pet so I stopped.

But one of my general rules is that if something attacks me it dies, so if there are any big monster goats I won't have any trouble dispatching them. And if the loot from something is good enough, I'd probably just have to tell my pet to look the other way.

The only time I've felt guilty killing an animal in this game was in Wrothgar. Near the southern end of the map is a hidden niche with a treasure chest guarded by a bear. A bear cub plays nearby. So, since I'm a greedy *** I killed the bear to loot the chest. When exiting the niche the bear cub seems to be in obvious distress. I must have killed its mom. I still feel bad thinking about it.

I'm not sentimental about animals in real life never mind in a videogame despite being vegetarian.
I don't go out of my way to kill animals but if a wolf or bear is near a resource node it dies and I've killed a lot of non-aggressive animals when I've been farming leather, game, guts etc.

I don't like killing animals. I'd prefer to avoid it.
Especially in ESO as the animals are particulary well animated and really feel alive. I feel like a *** while killing them. Completely goes against my principle in life.

It would be nice if there was an Animal Friend perk or Passive in the game where you could calm them for a period of time.

The short answer for me is no. However, I won't kill the baby Mammoths. That's where I draw the line. I did kill a mama bear in front of its cub one time. It made me sad and I felt like a horrible person. It ran off and disappeared...Now I'm numb to it!

There's a public dungeon in Valenwood I avoid because it's full of Senche. I avoid wolves whenever possible because they remind me of my German Shepherd. I didn't know that bunny quest was what it was until I started it and I won't do it again. Bears, foxes, monkeys, bunnies, snakes etc are all safe from me. Basically, I'm a big squishy. But I'll go out of my way to kill Dunmer, does that count?

I usually try not to kill non hostile animals, unless it's part of a quest. But if I target them by accident I'm not sad because they died, I'm sad because I wasted my shooting star on something with 1 hp :/

As an Argonian... I kill all small lizards I see because I was bullied as a hatchling... NOW WHO'S THE BIG LIZARD VINNIE!?!

Srsly though... I kill anything that is advantageous to kill. Anything that drops a hide that can be used for clothing or meat for provisioning. Anything hostile that will drop Exp for killing it.

I found it quite amusing that a guy in the IC (hi Houkus Poukus!) refused to kill the crocodiles & would always tell use to leave the crocs alone if we were PUG'd with him. :D

As you know (because we just chattted about it), I believe that when you've got a bear pet or mount on your character you should go out of your way to kill as many bears as possible. That will show your pet/mount what will happen if they step out of line.

If it moves I kill it no matter what
For me it's if I can eat it or wear it, it dies. In Tamriel I'm very much a ruthless unsentimental outdoor survivalist/explorer living off the land, I may even create a character called "Bear Grills".

The one slight regret is the senseless waste of Argonian skins and Khajiit pelts when they fall beneath my blade. It's such a shame I can't harvest them, a nice Khajiit fur would go well with some Argonian skin boots, after all it does get rather chilly in Wrothgar.

I wish there was a "It Depends" option.

It depends on the character I'm playing and how immersed I feel at that moment. Now if I have a character who is just nasty and heartless I might go out of my way to hurt the animal. Yes, I do go evil sometimes.

Or sometimes I'm not playing in roleplayer mode at all but then I see a goat for instance and though I don't have a goat pet, I think of MissBizz and think what if she or someone like her is nearby to witness my slaughtering their friend. So sometimes I glance around, shrug and slaughter the goat and apologize out loud to myself and I hope the deed wasn't seen.

    So it depends!

I try to avoid killing animals... but since my main doesn't do stealth I tend to draw aggro more often than I like. So I figure, if they are so vicious that they can't simply let me walk by, then I'm not going to feel sorry for killing them. After all, some child could pass by and... oh wait... there's no children in ESO...I guess that means I'm too late. :'(
