Oh, as for the why.

Allowing people to assigns multiple characters to the same campaign would make it really easy to spy. Hop in Temspeak (or, party chat on PS4) with your guildmates (let's say AD), go hop on you DC toon - find out what DC is planning/doing and let your friends in party chat (AD) know whats going on. Spying.

Because players were jumping on their other faction toons just to grab the scrolls from that faction and delivering them to their other faction buddies....

There's too few campaigns left to keep this system viable.

With a character in each alliance, and home and guest campaigns for each (3 x 2 = 6), I actually found myself deadlocked into not being able to change anything, since there are only 4 Vet-level campaigns now.

To play with a RL friend, I needed to swap my Home campaigns on my DC and EP characters. To do this, I had to go through all of the following steps:
1) Switch everyone's Guest campaign to match their Home one,
2) Switch both Home and Guest on my EP character to the only now-open campaign,
3) Switch both Home and Guest on my DC character to the one that the EP was on,
4) Switch my EP character's Home campaign to the one the DC was on.

With the waiting limits on changing campaigns (and trying to avoid spending a billion AP doing it), this process took literally weeks to accomplish.

It's a stupid system that didn't do a thing to prevent what it was designed to prevent, and I'm glad they are finally getting rid of it.

It's ridiculous that this is a thing, considering you just need someone else to get you into the campaign. Not much of a difficulty. And all those spy rumor things. Meh. Never understood why people are so paranoid about it.
