Because the in-game motifs do not apply to all characters in your account, just the one who reads it. The crown store motifs are simply the in-game ones, except you can buy them with cash instead of spending time finding them in-game. If they change the in-game motifs to apply account-wide instead of one character, then I would support the same for the crown store ones. But right now, if a person with 3 characters in-game has to farm/grind 3 times longer to get a motif for all his characters, a person going to crown store should spend 3 times as much to learn motif on 3 characters. Time is money. So the more time you save by going to the crown store, expect to spend more money.

If they are going to cost as much as a dlc they should be account wide

I kinda agree, at those prices, purchasing crown store motiv books should allow you to draw as many bound copies as you wish, so that each of your characters can learn the motiv...

Or just buy them from guild stores, they are cheap, or farm them in high vet zones.

A motif is like an expensive consumable item, so it's a one time use.

The way motifs from the crown store work is one of the scummiest thing I have ever seen in a cash shop

That is how the motif books work. One character. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

I personally would never spend money on that because I would rather play the game than spend money to skip playing. If someone really cares about motifs, than they can buy one for their main crafter. If you chose to not have 1 person that crafts all 3 kinds of equipment, poor decision. It was clear from day one that splitting crafting would cost a lot if you want to be able to do all racial styles for all equipment.

If you think that the price is too high for only one character, than item is not for you. It isn't being priced just to maximize profits. The price also reflects the level of effort needed to get the motif in-game.

Why can't I buy a motif in the crown store and right click any gear like I can with imperial to convert it.

I put he time in and hunt everyday but it's always the guy next to me that get the purple or gold motifs. I always find blue.

No, that is a horrible analogy.

If you buy an XP scroll, should all your characters get to use it?

Of course not. You will get XP scrolls in your inventory. You will chose which characters use them. When they use them, they will be consumed.

Pets have always been account wide. Mounts became account wide when they switched to the riding skills system. Neither pets nor mounts are consumables.

Then join a guild, sell your findings, and make your money back.

You can only convert gear to Imperial if you've purchased the Imperial Edition, which also lets you play as an Imperial. If you don't have the Imperial Edition, then you have to find the Imperial motif and then craft gear in that style.

All other styles can only be crafted after learning the motif.

For the OP - The $23.99 USD for 5500 Crown packs was the Black Fredas sale price. Normally, 5500 Crown packs cost $39.99.

Racial styles are cosmetic and not too difficult to obtain in-game. Plus, there's a good market in-game for these things, so ZOS doesn't want to price the Crown Store ones cheaply or make them account-wide since the in-game versions are not. The only real advantage to the Crown Store motifs is that you only have to be level 1 in the equipment crafts to learn the rare styles - even Glass, which requires level 10 in-game.

There's really no reason to have them for all your characters is there? I mean I guess if you build on all of your characters then I could see it but I think most of us primarily build all of our things on one character. I have all weapons/armor on one character and then potions/provisioning on another. That way all the motifs can simply be on one character, it makes it more organized for me and less work in the long run.

I agree that all equipment crafting should be on one character. That was not how I initially started, though. I wanted each character to be self-sufficient, so they were learning all crafts that they needed for their own gear, and they were learning all motifs. All of them know the blue motifs, and I've found several duplicates of the purple rares. However, once Dwemer was released in pages, I began to see how it wasn't going to work easily for all of my characters to learn all styles. So, a few months ago, I added clothing to my main character who already knows blacksmithing and woodworking and has the points to spare.

I still plan to have my other characters learn the purple motifs - 11-14 - since those are single books, and I've been finding them more easily since the release of Orsinium, but only one character will need to learn the others, which are broken into chapters.

The crown motif is purely convenience. Depending on where you are in the game and how good you are at grinding gold (or thieving), you may find it more cost-effective to spend gold on the motif in a guild store instead of crowns in the crown store.

If you absolutely cannot wait, or don't want to hunt all the pages down for chapter motifs, and have more cash than time, the crown motif may be the way to go if you find it more valuable to go that route. Also, as was previously mentioned, you can learn the Crown motif at any skill tier, where the found pages/books require one of your crafting skills to have enough skill points (and thus enough skill in the skill line) sunk into it in order to learn it.

Generally, it's only necessary to learn the motif on a single character dedicated to crafting, then use the personal bank to transfer items to another character that needs them. It's less convenient than everyone being able to craft their own stuff, but far less expensive.

Personally, I have my main built up for crafting everything so he can be self-reliant. It took a lot of work to get there, but he can learn any motif and has almost all traits learned (except Nirnhoned). It comes in handy. :) And for me, it was a goal to work towards, something I wanted to ultimately achieve.

I was mostly just venting cause I started a character When I first bought the game but was having trouble finding ppl to group with and guilds after I had bought crown store motifs.

I then made a healer had no problems finding groups and learned the game and became a master crafter that can only make a few styles since then I have bought most of the motifs from guild stores

It just sucks tha there is no way to make up for mistake made as a newb

That all being said they are just style and ppl in the game that think a new style is going to make ur damage higher are real funny

This is a good point to have it across the account to all characters, I do agree. But I think the reason would be because every character has their own progressive skill level to crafting. Therefor if one character's progression is earned it can't be shared with the other characters if they haven't learned/earned their stripes.
