Templar Healer PvE Leveling Build?

Quietas
Quietas
So yes, there is a ton of griping about Templars and their current status. How about someone share some positive feedback on what works.

I currently have all attribute points to HP with 5 light and 2 heavy armor with armor stats maxing out mana and mana regen.

What builds are currently working well for folks? I'm 33 and slowly leveling, but playing 1h+sheild/resto or destr/resto or resto/resto they are all feeling a bit underpowered. I get by with resto/resto currently, but what else is working good?

    good? nothing.

    doable is quite alot.
    i prefer destro/resto.
repentance+stamina builds is ok but far from good as weapon dmg beside destrostaff sucks

Well, my Templar at the moment wears all cloth:

For attacking I use a destruction staff, but only Dawn's Wrath skills, with maybe one Restoring Light and one Mages Guild skill.
For group/dungeon healing I use a restoration staff, but only Restoring Light skills, with one Dawn's Wrath and Mages Guild skill.

This does vary a little bit depending upon what I'm fighting, of course. For example I might use one or two fighters guild skills (i.e. Evil hunter or Turn Undead) if I'm fighting a lot of undead/daedra.

I don't min/max, and I'm sure the way I play won't work for others, but it works fine for me, and I enjoy it immensely. That's all that's important to me. I especially enjoy group dungeon runs and ensuring no one dies all. Aside from being one-shotted of course when they don't block/dodge some particularly nasty attack. Can't heal through that  .

    destro/resto with 7 light armor

Bar 1 for soloing, Bar 2 for group healing but also switch to if I need healing while solo

Crushing Shock does nice damage and stuffs up casters, good 1v1
If its a hard single mob, use Binding Javelin to keep it away

For group mobs, Volcanic rune, and Blazing Spears
Either single or group, use Reflective light to for the debulf and damage.

I basically use one bar for healing (combo of restoring light and restoration staff), and the other bar for solo pve.

my solo pve bar uses bitting jabs, poison arrow, either magnum shot or silver bolt (depending if they are undead/deadra), an instant heal, and fireballs (lol forget the name).

I apply my bleeds and kite and I can take out big mobs as easily as single bosses. Only thing that sometimes gives me a challenge is multiple spell casters. I don't have enough buttons on my mouse to map my interrupt to it...

My healing bar depends on the group... as a healer it HATE it when guys/gals just stand in the fire, fail to even try to dodge boss attacks, and then wonder WHY they died. So when I get those guys I make sure to fill my bar with buffs and heals over time. I never pay much attention the the names so I guess that's not much help.

I played a bit with my skills in the last few days and here is my current build after 2 respecs in the last week.

    Attributes: 33 Health, nothing else
Armor: Dropped blues and greens, 5 light 2 heavy. Max magicka, magicka regen, and spell cost reduction.
Weapons: 2x Staff of the Grove, resto with magic damage and recover 6 magicka
Mundus Stone: The Mage (100 Magicka)

This setup with food has me max in magicka, magicka recovery, and spell resistance. All points into health has me 50 points from maxed.

Here is my current build at level 34: LINK to Esohead

Obviously these are not all morphed yet and not at max levels. I went with mode AoE morphs for both healing and DPS. Also moprhs which provide magicka back are great.

    Bar 1 Healing
    • Mutagen
    • Lingering Ritual
    • Breath of Life
    • Healing Springs
    • Annulment
    • Rememberance

Annulment can easily be swapped with binding javelin to push mobs away toward tanks, or spear shards for group buffs.

    Questing/DPS
    • Power of the Light
    • Reflective Light
    • Biting Jabs
    • Solar Barrage
    • Binding Javelin
    • Solar Disturbance

Binding Javelin can be swapped with Focused Charge. Also, Consuming Trap is a good skill if sould shards need to be filled and it is instant cast damage which can be squeezed in at the last second of Power of the Light.

Is this still fun and/or viable to run? I'm looking for a fun Healer/Caster Templar build.

Why so many points in health?

Since most of your casting scales off of magicka, you're gimping your spell power. More magicka = better dps and healing for casters.

It also looks like your mixing some of your skills- biting jabs is a stamina morph, and binding javelin scales off of weapon damage and max stamina. Skills like reflective light and breath of life scale off of magicka, spell damage and spell critical.

Hybrids can be fun, but will always be less effective in the numbers game.

If you put 2 attribute points into magicka for every one into health, morph biting jabs to puncturing sweep (which will return health to you) and add radiant magelight into the mix, you might find yourself closer to pulling the numbers you want.

This is coming from a magicka-templar, though... stamina could be a viable choice, but again, you really have to choose one or the other to get the most bang for your buck.

Always make sure to check the tool tips (is it really fire damage, or is it magicka damage that just looks like fire? What does it scale off of?)- I bet if you put 2/3 of your attribute points into magicka, you'll see the base damage numbers for the skills you use go way up.

You don't have to min/max (I don't, I'm scared to be too squishy), but putting a little time into the numbers pays off.

    Hope that helps!

edit: I just noticed the date on this. /headdesk.

ah, back in the old soft cap days, when you could reasonably have a templar build like mine (7 light armour, resto staff and bow) without the bow practically gathering dust

Sorry, I kind of dug this one up >.>

I have been looking for a Templar build that plays as a caster with at least 1 bar being a heal/support bar and the other having a bit of offense next to the heal/support to allow me to level when my friends aren't online.

even though the thread is horribly necroed :D
lvling solo on a magica temp is absolutly easy but mind boggling boring
all you need are three skills.
    channeled focus
    siphoning spirit (resto staff) and
    puncturing sweeps.

you can add degeneration if you like, with this setup any mob or mob-hord not oneshotting you has no chance to overcome you.
your choice of weapon would be restostaff (offhand) and probably 2x 1h swords for the increased dmg and spelldmg or what i prefer s&b.

playing as a caster does sadly not really work as templar range spells are extreamly situational.

if you want more information i would suggesting a PM...
