Feeling underpowered as a vet 14 Mag NB

Done all of Cadwells quests, so I can receive my beyond garbage quest reward. Back to the point.

I went back to do the dungeon events for skill points, and feel so weak fighting lvl 40 and above.
As a vet 14 amost 15, I feel i should be 1 hitting these guys considering the amount of time it took me to level up. Even vsing vet 1 enemies I still have to spam like mad to kill groups, I dont see why I shouldn't be tearing through these lower level enemies.

Yes this is my only character with I think over 100 CPs, cant check servers are down.

Any tips?

I have basically followed Deltias Umbra PvE build in terms of skills and CP layout.

When you say you tear through, do you mean 1 shot enemies? Or that you just never die?

Depends on enemy health. I oneshot everxthing under 10k.
And never die and kill everxthing else in a matter of seconds

One you're following deltia build. Big mistake.

Two you're vet 14, not 16, there's a huge huge power difference between the two.

Deltias builds are very bad?

Can you recommend a better mag nb build?

The deltia build is crap.
Neither for pve nor pvp an good.

Mist Form for a nb in pvp? Stupid. As is engine guardian as a magicka nb.
Impale on staff bar in pve? No soul harvest on aoe bar? Even more stupid. Not to speak about 5p mara and magnus . Pure *** for a dps build.

The biggest issue with new players today is they look up a build on a website and try to copy it, ignorant of the mechanics of the game, the changes, the whens whys and hows. All things us veterans learned over the last two years, which I may add were full of testing, trial, error, and so many changes to mechanics your head would spin.

My tip? Learn how all the sets work, what buffs what, what skills work together, how damage scales, what increases damage output, how recovery works, just figure out the nuts and bolts of the game.

Then put together something that actually makes use of all of that knowledge you gained. That is where you actually start. Picking up other player templates is the reason newbies never learn.

Then you get to a level like this. off the top of my head ill theorycraft a build right here on the spot. Stamina gank nightblade. (no its not what youre looking for, but imma do it anyway)

Bosmer or Khajiit racial (bosmer for the sustain in stam recovery, cat if you want a little more punch), you can also use reguard in place of bosmer

Dual Wield, 2 Hander

3x Agility, 3x Endurance (how? use 2 agility weapons in DW, agility neck, 2 end rings and an endurance 2 hander. use sharpened or precise traits, daggers or maces.)

Five hundings, 1 molag kena, 1 bloodspawn, all v16. Infused head legs chest, divines rest. 1 heavy, 1 light, 5 medium. All attribs to stam, all CPs to cost reduction, recovery, and mighty in the blue tree. red points spend on whatever reduces damage but not armor skills, ever.

If bosmer 2x weapon damage 1x stam recovery, if khajiit 1x weapon damage 2x recovery on jewelry enchants

Disease and weapon damage enchants on weapons

Stamina enchants on all gear

warrior mundus

Unlock Assault 5, Undaunted 9, Fighters guild 10, Legerdemain 6 at least

Rally, Vigor, Wreckblow, Executioner, Crit Charge, Flawless Dawnbreaker
Ambush, SurpriseAttack, KillerBlade, CamoHunter, Darkcloak, SoulHarvest

Didnt need a website, or even a login to the game to come up with that, thats just experience gained from testing and playing. Sure it might have things others might tweak around, but this is how you get better at the game, you learn why i picked everything I did.

I would advise you to make your own build - try different things and see what feels better to you.

On my magblade, I mostly use mark target, siphon (single target) and sap for groups of enemies. Stuff gets dead quickly, even large groups of mobs, and you stay alive as long as your resources hold. Then depending on the situation, other skills are useful... like the shadows for bosses, a meteor as ultimate to nuke stuff, NB ability to cripple enemies... on my back bar I always keep cloak with concealed weapon so that I can escape what I cannot fight.

Gear is very important too. I like the combination of 5x twice born star with 3×/4x magnus, and willpower jewels.

Last, do not forget your food buffs!

But the one good advice is to try stuff and see what works for you. At V14 the groups of mobs in Craglorn give a good testing ground to get a feel for what you are doing (at least for me).

For magicka leveling I can recommend a Sap Essence setup

Click Siphoning Strikes
Click Lotus Fan
Click Refreshing Path
Keep clicking Sap Essence until everyone is dead
If there is one (1) enemy keep clicking Swallow Soul/Funnel Health (your choice) until he/she is dead

Keep Soul Tether for Ultimate, and that's your whole bar. I can almost guarantee that you will NEVER die

Oh, and that's a 7/7 light armor setup. Go DW swords on main bar with 5 pc. Julianos and 4 pc. Magnus and 3 pc. Magnus on your back bar which holds a resto staff. That's the simple way of going about it.

Breton or high Elf

Just replace everything I said about stamina/weapon damage/and stam recovery with magicka and spell damage.

5L/1M/1H (preferred for undaunted passives) or just 7LA for maximum raw damage output.

Kagsx5 (or julianos or scathing), Molag Kena, Any monster head with health.

DW/Resto

Arcane Willpower neck, Willpower swords x2, endurance rings x2, willpower healing staff (alternatively you can run 2x Torugs nirn swords, pretty much any healing staff, and 3x willpower jewelry)

DW bar - SwallowSoul,ConcealedWeapon,proxdet, lotusfan for gapcloser, fear - dawnbreakerofsmiting OR soul tether
Resto - ShadowImage, Dark Cloak, Healing Ward, CombatPrayer, PathofShadows - DBoS OR Soul Tether

for PvE DPS, put on a precise inferno staff instead of resto.... and use i dunno, impulse, crushing shock, swallow soul, degeneration, magelight, and meteor or something, not a pve guy.

Bottom line is this build ive listed is pretty much the FOTM magicka trollgank spec out there, and does surprisingly good damage, but I hate magicka NB, so i would just run stam myself.

Hell lets go a step further. 4x overwhelming, 3x arch mage, 2x torugs (weapons) 3x willpower (jewelry)

youre a lot more concise than i was, thats for sure. we made almost the same build though XD Instead of magnus i went mixy-up with monstersets and torugs, but blah, samesame really.

Single Target bar: Funnel Health or Swallow Soul - Crippling Grasp - Structured Entropy - Merciless Resolve - Inner Light - Ice Comet/Shooting Star Ulti

AOE bar: Sap Essence - Twisting Path/Rearming Trap/Proxi Det - Impale - Siphon Attacks - Inner Light - Soul Harvest/Soul Tether/Dawnbreaker of Smiting/Veil of Blades Ulti

Gear: 5x Julianos if CP capped, if under CP cap use 5x Twice Born Star with Thief/Shadow Mundus - 1 Molag Kena if you have, if not use Torugs and Torugs on rest, and Arcane Willpower Jewels. Torug Staff and use DW if over 40k Magicka, if under 40k use 2H. If you can, make a Torug staff nirn'd and a precise one with Poison enchants. DW or 2H in Torugs with precise and nirn on DW and either nirn/precise on 2H.

Soloing large groups of mobs is very easy as a mage nb. You literally cant die as long as you have enough magicka to spam.
You can easily maintain magicka and stamina if you use siphoning attacks and make sure that enemies are standing in your twisting path (the healing morph can only proc siphoning on the initial hit so dont use it). Then you can just spam sap essence and funnel health (for single target).

Thanks for all the feedback.

For the record im on PS4, and while I agree 100% on knowing my classes ins and outs, im playing the bare bones version of ESO.

We have no add ons like PC players, so its impossible to minimize/maximize on consoles.

Also I have yet to get any of the DLCs. So most of thoughs sets will be hard to main for.

So the best way for console players to maximize our characters is to listen to PC players.
I mean we dont even have Text Chat on consoles FFS.

Issue with that build is that it hasn't been updated recently to cover the CP cap and new gear that has been added since Orsinium. In saying that, he has recently put an updated version through Maelstrom and it's currently 5th on the PC NA leaderboards. The other issue is you're trying to use a build that in practice is actually quite difficult to use without the full range of skill points.

Oh, and dying isnt the issue. I just feel my character is weak for his level vs the pve enemies I attack.

I thought as a vet 14 even without set gear, I should be 1 shotting everything below vet 1.

You'd think so but it's not possible unfortunately. Now level 25 and below mobs yes but everything else needs to have some strength to pose at least some challenge.

heh, well I only play solo so I never even consider monster-stuff, although my own setup is 5xKagrenac, 3xarch-mage, 2x Cyro's Light, 2x Torug's - just thought I would keep it simple and easy to get :-P

Yeah. It is a bit odd but once the vet ranks are removed we won't need to worry about that too much.

You might be accustomed to another game or something if you're expecting to 1-shot everything a few levels below you. Once you have 2500+ spell damage and 30k+ magicka, you can probably expect to 1-shot mobs with less than ~15k HP in pve using a medium weaved swallow soul. For AOE, you're going to have to hit them a few times... same as the rest of us. AOE hits each mob for less in exchange for hitting more of them.
