Just hit Veteran and new to Pvp - Sorc seeking build, skills and gear advice.

FlipFl0p
Hi all, I'm a magicka Sorcerer on Xbox One, EU server. I hit veteran tonight and had to move off the non vet campaign which I'd been trying.

I noticed a big step up as I'd been managing to survive one on one encounters previously but got dropped in seconds when I encountered veterans.

Would really appreciate advice on what skills to use while I begin to learn to play pvp, what armour should I aim to get and what weapons should I be looking to get? My aim is to make myself better and my character a bit stronger so I can stand a chance in 1v1 at least.

Currently dual wielding weapons that add to my defence and spell penetrative, don't actually hit with the weapons.

Trying to level up all the skills, my alliance rank is only 3 but hoping to get Detonation.

Using c frags, curse, streak, webs and shield on dual bar and resto on the other bar with a variety of skills as I try to level them.

Thanks in advance!

I like using radiant magelight and entropy for spell crit/dmg buff. I use curse, crystal frags and mages wrath for dmg. This ison my dual wield damage bar. I run 4x Magnus, 4x Marshall knowledge, spell dmg enchant on my jewelry. Use a mix of infused magicka and defines for more spell damage

Thank you! A question about the dual wield passives, I looked at those but the way I read it, it says weapon damage
Each sword equipped increases the damage of your weapon attacks by 1.5%

Now as a sorc casting the abilities we already mentioned, is this weapon damage? I assumed it wasn't as it's magic hence why I chose spell penetration on my weapons.

So does this passive actually have an effect?

Funnily enough I was doing Cropsford today and it was great at first, did 7 or 8 quests and was getting a CP about every hand in. Encountered 2 or 3 AD guys and we just smiled at each other and left each other alone.

Until I was gathering the sacks and all of a sudden I got hit behind by a 2 Handed guy, he used the same move 3 times and I was dead. I'm guessing it was Wrecking Blow which I read so much about.

My first instinct was to hit bubble to begin fighting back but I died anyway. Lesson learned I should have streaked out the way first. So that was the end of that as my pact (Ebonheart) seems to be losing in Cyrodil on Xbox and we only have the keeps in the corner, it's a very long ride.

Do you get CPs faster in Cyrodil?

Thanks for the armour tips, I am researching my last Clothing item that will allow me to craft 5 trait sets , as we speak to will be able to do as you say.

Abilities wise: I've noticed nobody else is using Bounding Storm except me, I'm getting killed by Sorcs with Surge on so may try that instead. Trying to keep the buffs and shields to a minimum cos I'm not even living long enough to apply them at the moment.

A toggle would make sense but I feel Inner light is better for PvE, I had been told previously that it's best not to rely on Crit n Pvp and instead go for penetration, is this correct advice?

Thanks again guys, I'm learning loads, still dying, but learning :)

Ill answer as best as I can.

First, for the duel wield, yes it states weapon, however it Does increase spell dmg etc (this is not a bug ZoS has said its intentional)

With the 7 to 8 quests being done, you did all if but one of them for your 24 hour allotment, good job. Yes Wrecking Blow was the move, it's what they do :)

There are times when you are doomed, as a lower level some 16s may just destroy you, its fine tho.

You do gain xp faster in Cyrodiil, if you're below vet 14 you'll get the battle leveling to vet 14 and get xp as if 14.

They are right about Focusing on crit, you still need (and will have by passives) a decent crit number. For example when I tried out my 82% crit build that was a bit much. Crit boosts damage and makes power surge more reliable. I shoot for a minimum of 50% crit. You can get 22% just from CP passive and innerlight alone.

Innerlight (or bound aegis) are used more for the max magicka boost primarily and then the passives (the armor or crit)

Buffs take place usually when you are first to act, if you get jumped its usually best to bubble, then buff. Also this is the exact reason people have a "oh shoot" heal. You get jumped, bubble, heal, then continue.

Penetration is good, just remember not to go over board. As penetration's worth is decreased as your opponents armor gets weaker. Still good though.

The things you can go overboard on seem to be max magicka and/or spell damage. But remember spell damage is not the collective total of all effects that affect damage but rather an independent statistic that is a part of what determines your total damage.

Oh and I still die, not nearly as much but it happens. You'll find players you can just run around and others that take all you got. I just hope you have fun :)

well i use a stamina sorcerer which is alot different, so i do not have too much advice but lets see what i can do. For your armor i suggest using light armor if your planning on focusing on dps because of the magika boost. use two or three pieces of heavy armor so you can use the heavy armor passives to give you some more sustainability, again if you are more looking for dps stick with straight light armor. try using the daedric mines especially for large encounters, in a large encounter it often becomes difficult to maintain full awareness and many players are not focused on their surroundings and more importantly for you, the ground, so often they will activate the mines and never even know what hit them. also in imperial city the daedric mines give all kinds of great strategical advantages, such as putting them in doorways or stairs or narrow walkways, you will get the hang of it real quick. also in imperial city collect bone shards and dark ether and save them until a higher vet rank. (i am saving mine until vr16 and i still have a loong way to go) these will allow you to open their corresponding treasure vault containing items of willpower which is needed for magika based builds, keep in mind these items do scale to level and the trophies take time to stack, so the longer you save em the better. i know c frags detonation and curses are what i am getting hit by from enemy sorcs so i assume you have got that right. as for your weapon, i may be mistaken but i think a destruction staff would serve you well resulting in high spell damage. but for the most part seems like you are doing just fine, low level vet rank is always difficult in vet campaigns simply because of the time these players have been working on their builds. most of them have great gear, skills they have had lots of practice with and are geared specifically for pvp. not to mention the experience they have with pvp. so eventually you will begin to feel the difficulty lower as you become more familiar with both the pvp setting and your set up. again being a stamina based sorc i do not know whether you will find my advice useful or not, but i hope at least one suggestion will help you improve

Hi OP! Welcome to vet PvP!

I too am a sorc, I also DW on my main bar. DW with swords with the blunt passive, (last dw passives) also increase spell dmg. This will be higher than a staff.

Your main bar is extremely close to mine, except I run Innerlight in place of streak on my main bar. I highly suggest running one of the toggle abilities. Depending on your playstyle each one will vary. The addition to max magicka and the armor/crit is great.

Im vet 16 and I remember when I first hit v1 and tried PvP. I would recommend doing Cropsford repeatable quests, really short cycle and great experience to get those CPs going.

As for armor, most suggest you make some every 3 or 4 vet levels, making each armor as high a level as you feel you can afford, you will out level it and fairly quickly.

For a beginner I would suggest x5 seducer set and then x4 magnus or Twilight's embrace, if dlc and a lot of traits, Julianos too.

You're gonna need those CPs, so doing quests in Cyrodiil is a great way to accomplish this and interact with some 1v1 action, giving you great experience and how your build feels to you.

    Good luck :)

Thanks so much for the helpful replies, I'll address each one individually!

Thanks so much for the tips, yes they were helpful even if you are Stamina (I hear stam sorc is hard to play but it looks so fun!), I don't actually have Imperial City so don't need to save up the bone fragments you mentioned .. but it brought a question to mind.

Alliance points, I've been spending them on sieges and repairing walls, is this the right thing to do or should I be saving these also to buy equipment later on?

Yes you are quite right, webs is quite expensive so I may have to go back to destro staff to use the ability you are using. However I've not been living long enough when I played today to run out of resources, honestly, I tried to get my shields up to begin attacking and was dead, that wasn't 1 v 1 but still I went down so fast!

Where is it best to spend CPs as a beginner? Should I be aiming for any of the passives or should I spread them around a bit to try and avoid the diminishing returns?

The 3 blue constellations have a unique passive, 1 for weapon crit and the other for spell crit. Either one gives you a flat 12% I believe, not in front of the game right now. Just read into the passives, it takes 30 points into the constellation to unlock it.

If u look at the passive for dual wield again it says 1.5% increase in damage. So it should increase for either weapon or spell.

Stack as much damage and max magicka as you can. Bigger shields and bigger damage. There ya go.
