Why were dye slots removed on some gear?

I know.. this thread is coming a bit late but its been in the back of my mind for about a month or two since I first realized it.

Ancient Elf was one of my favorite heavy armors because of the design of the dye slots. Sometime around IC release a lot of these dye slots simply vanished and my armor colors on my character were changed. I noticed it on the character select screen that something looked really odd.. so I went and took a look and tried to re-dye the gear back to the way I had it. The third dye slot on the helm, body, hands, and feet were simply taken away from it and no longer have any effect on the pieces.

What was the purpose to it? Part of the thing I really like about this game is how you can customize your look to a great degree through crafting and this change took away one of my favorite choices.

If you look at the helm, belt, and shoulders and how many colors are on each piece you will see the dye slots I am referring to that are missing.
Anyone else notice these changes here and there?

    Dyes are kind of messed up right now. Like you, I've noticed some slots have no effect on gear, but also the colours are WAY off in most cases. Reds can look like anything from pink to brown depending on the level/weight of the piece.

    Really hope they fix this because right now it's really hard to do anything worthwhile. Still, kudos on the recent introduction of dyeable shields.

    I've noticed the same thing with the various armors all my different characters wear. It seems that when you are trying to change one of the slots on those particular pieces it doesn't change anything. I to loved the options of customizing the colors of my armors, working hard for over a year (at least it feels that long) to get achievements to unlock colors to use. But since IC came out what's the point? Not only do the colors not match the swatch colors when you place them on the armor pieces, but now we have lost one of the options to customize. I'm just wearing costumes now......maybe that was their plan all along, make us hate coloring our armor so we will buy crown points and wear costumes, lol.

    Oh and one last thought, I really "liked" the Xivkyn heavy armor but who ever heard of chain mail being colored the same as the cuirass? Imho, chain mail should be silver or maybe even black, but when you color the Xivkyn cuirass it also colors the chain mail. Seriously, say I wanted (not saying I would) to color my cuirass red, it also colors my chain mail red, we should have the option to color the chain mail separately, say like silver or gold. Just my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions....

    @ZOS_GinaBruno what happened to our dye options????

    Yeh I've noticed it, too. Some of the sections just don't do anything anymore.

    @ZOS_GinaBruno is this intended?

    Here is what the current Ancient Elf dye pattern has been changed to, I was going to try to dye same colors but couldn't get a match as the original (which is from ESO Fashion) so I just used high contrast colors.

    15qawc3.jpg
    Head, Shoulders, Belt, & Hands have had their third dye slot disabled. Cuirass dye pattern is noticeably different when you glance at the center of the chest area, and the feet were changed somewhat but I have no before pic for comparison to point out the difference.

    Light Orc style (just normal, not Ancient) has this too; only two (or it may even just be one) affect it.

    Edit: I've only noticed this affecting the Shoulders in particular, but I no longer wear a full set of Orc so I wouldn't no for sure about the rest.

    I see what happened look at shoulders and hip plates aswell as the trim detail they buffed the texture and design like they did tho the old orc style basically they made it look more realistic rather than like paper by adding a bit of pop to it notice the hip plates from pic one to pic two the second ones hip plates loom thick and not paper like in the first pic. And they removed the trim on the top of the shoulders making it look like a solid peice.

    Side note I wish they would tweak xivkyn to allow the chainmail parts to be dyed separate from the armor plating.

    Dye slots removed or not - there have ALWAYS been undyeable parts on many armor pieces, depending on the style.

    Just a few examples:

    - Most of the pants only have 1-2 slots;

    - Most leather parts look like rusty metal and can't be dyed at all (f.e. Dunmer style or Daedric);

    - The boots of the Martial Knowledge set only have 1 slot;

    - The Ancient Orc robe looks awesome but 1 slot covers almost the whole thing and the other 2 slots don't add much to make it interesting (I really would have wished to dye the ornaments seperately like the Ancient Orc medium chest piece!);

    - The Ancient Orc leg piece in heavy (which is some kind of skirt) has 3 slots (of which one does pretty much nothing), but unlike the medium chest piece of that style, these ornaments on top cannot be dyed seperately which makes the whole thing looking ugly. Also, the colors don't fully cover the item, it's transparent.

    I often wonder if the devs who allocated the dyeslots became tired or too lazy to continue and just threw it into the game as it was when they stopped working on it. Because that's exactly how it looks like.

    Normally dunmer carries color well except those undyable brown elbow and knees.

    Redguard washes everything out. As does daedric.

    I think ancient orc will be on a future skin revamp as it tops the list as worst looking skin to date.. concept clearly has a neck protector that's just painted on in game

    The Dunmer style comes with these huge, wide belts. These are NOT dyeable. But I agree, the rest of the armor dyes well indeed. Daedric dyes horrible but also has these brown leather parts which cannot be dyed at all.

    I know there's quite a few styles of equipment with limited dye options, but was just curious why out of the blue and with no explanation they would go and remove dye options from one of the better looking crafted sets. The helm is what really stands out the most to me. Maybe they are cutting corners to improve game performance when large crowds are present? Who knows, but this change made the style less likable to some.

    Would be nice to know if this was intended, or if it could be changed back to the way it was so I can resume being a special snowflake. :D

    PS - The glass dyes, why so much pastel?

    I'm not sure if you were aware of this, but the brown leather sections on the "old" Ancient Elf Heavy Armor were undyeable. You can see them at the arms and under the, uh, groin flap of this ESO Fashion picture. Worse, the majority of the Greaves were made of this brown leather and took no dye at all.

    To me, most of the new Heavy Armor looks a lot better than it did before. You're obviously able to dye everything now, rather than having horrible brown sections. The red leather on the elbows and straps of the Cuirass and the blue leather on the Greaves look great to me and are actually an encouragement to pick up the style again.

    However, it seems that in attempting to fix undyeable regions of the armour, they've merged together other sections which did not need merging. There's no reason at all for the Helm to have lost a colour slot - it had 3 before and looked really nice with the three stripes in the centre. It reminded me of superhero armour :). Nor is there any reason for the Pauldrons to have lost a colour slot. We'll just have to make our opinions known to the devs, and hopefully they'll sort Ancient Elf out properly this time.

    Found another piece changed around last night, this time its light armor Altmer style shoulders, and not just the dye pattern but pieces of the shoulders have been clipped off with the new change.

    The 3-leaf pattern in the center of the chest now only dyes in one solid color so you cant make the center piece look like a jewel to match the belt. (which looked a lot better than its current state)

    Xikxyn Light Helm doesn't dye right at all. It doesn't match pretty much any other bit of Xivkyn, and the colors are totally off.
