Windows 10/Nvidia problems

I know this isn't an ESO related post but since so many of us use Nvidia + Windows 10 now and a lot of us are having problems with the driver updates I figured this would help people get their driver updated and might help with some in game problems. If any of you are having the problem that I was having with failed driver updates try this tool, I got this directly from Nvidia support and it worked like a charm. below is the message they sent me with instructions on how to update you drivers. Hope this helps some of you.

Thank you for the update

I completely understand your concern, this is not at an expected behavior. We can further troubleshoot and isolate the cause for the issue. If required, we can escalate the case for further attention.

Please try the steps as suggested below and let me know if it helps.

1. Install all the windows pending updates.
2. Perform clean driver installation as suggested below using "display driver uninstaller".

Please use the below utility DDU to perform clean driver installation:

http://www.guru3d.com/files-get/display-driver-uninstaller-download,20.html

After the download is completed, it would prompt you to extract the file. Once the display driver uninstaller is extracted under download folder you would see Display driver uninstaller .exe file. Double click on it to proceed with the installation. After the Display driver uninstaller is installed, it would prompt for system restore point creation and booting the computer in safemode.

Once done, - Select NVIDIA on top and Put a check mark on all the NVIDIA components near the NVIDIA logo.
- Now click on Clean and Restart (Highly Recommended)
- Once the computer restarts and goes to the Windows please follow the steps below

Download the driver version 359.00:

http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/95559/en-us

- Once the installer wizard begins, accept the license agreement.
- Select "Custom (Advanced)" install option and then click Next.
- Put a checkmark in the "Perform clean install" option and then click Next.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Looking forward for your update,

Best regards
Yugendar

The thing that gets me is here are two of the biggest companies in their respective business and they couldn't get together to make sure the transition to Windows 10 was a smooth transition. Epic fail in my book.

Use this method and she will be able to get the latest driver, I noticed problems in game with using older drivers that are now fixed.

Wonder if this could fix my issue, game runs fine etc but if I minimize the game after about 10 secs of being minimized I get a message appearing saying I had a driver failure and it's been recovered but the gsme has been shut.

Are you in full screen, windowed, or full screen windowed? Mine seems to run better on windowed full screen.

Full screen, I get a more solid and higher fps, windowed I was get 55 in busy areas, fullscreen doesn't go below 75fps, lowest I've seen is 69 so far.

Can't remember, does full screen give you the minimize/maximize options at the top like a normal Windows window? Try using alt tab instead.

Nope, just hit the windows key on my keyboard, only seems to happen with eso.

On a positive note only using one of my 2 gtx 970s msi edition I'm getting amazing frame rates even in pvp or busy areas, amazing card for the money, running base overclock too with everything maxxed.

Only thing I've got to do is add some more cooling, not liking 70C temps

Dunno, never had any issues with neither nVidia or Windows 10. Even the very first insider preview build was working well, and nvidia already had a beta driver for it up and running. Been fine ever since.

What exactly are the problems people are experiencing as for me personally, windows 10 has been the least troublesome windows ever, even in it's beta stages it was more stable than any previous versions have been after official releases.
Maybe there is a specific problem with the hardware itself? As generally Win10 has been a good success in comparison to other versions.

The problem I had was that windows kept trying to update the Nvidia drivers and was failing and locked or something, but I was able to fix with the steps above, otherwise I love Windows 10.

I hate Windows 10.It caused me to have all kinda of problem with my game of Morrowind! Whereas it played just fine with Windows 7,it wouldnt at all with 10.Sooo,I had to find Morrowind Patches, three of them, and while it worked,it isnt full screen now.The game will not play full screen, cos it is too old for Windows 10.I want to go back to Windows 7,but dont know how,or if it would effect this game. I've only had 10 for a few months now. I've heard you can go back to 7.Does anyone know how?

In Windows recovery options there is a option to revert back to previous Windows, that's of course only if you upgraded from a older windows and the files are still on the hard drive. If not, just grab a windows 7 from piratebay, dual boot it with Win10 as I have. Got windows7 on one partition and windows 10 on my main SSD.

I just tried everything in the OP regarding using DDU to uninstall my previous nvidia driver and then installed version 359.06, which is current as of this posting. I logged in and the driver crashed after about 3 minutes. I'm currently using Windows 10 Pro x64, which was clean installed about 3 days ago. The video card is a GTX 460 v2. It's the same card that I played with for 6+ months previously in Windows 7. First I couldn't stay connected more than 5 minutes, and now I can't play more than 5 minutes due to the driver crashing. It crashes in Wildstar too, but that game manages to recover every time and it doesn't seem to happen as frequently there.

EDIT: Error: Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

Anyone having issues with windows 10 should have a look in their application and system logs and fix all the errors.
Windows 10 has many issues with hardware drivers....despite promising/checking 100% driver compatibility and the install will be OK. ;)
Windows 10 will also simply uninstall anything it doesn't like compatibility wise when upgrading.
It will also pretty much copy all your data onto Microsoft servers, log and track all your activity..by default.
    They call this spyware.

Personally I had Netgear a6210 usb wifi. Windows 10 needs constant internet access during the upgrade process. So when the 100% compatible wifi drivers kill the wifi you know how bad windows 10 is.
It then took 5 netgear updates to get wifi even remotely working...via ethernet.
Which still wouldn't work properly as the Intel inf updates were also not fully compatible with windows 10.
So all the intel chipest drivers also had to go through a series of updates to fix the win 10 issues.
In turn, win10 decided to uninstall my Matrix Raid SSD raid 1 as it decided it wasn't goin to work with win10.
Which then had to be upgraded with further RST updates to go with the intel chipset drivers....only to discover win10 had corrupted/degraded the array in the meantime.
The Razer Naga drivers also misbehaved with the USB as a result of the USB/chipset issues...I couldn't even get past the logo screen after win 10 install restart to setup because...the usb keyboard wouldn't work properly with the naga attached. I had to find a wired usb mouse to even get past the setup logon.

There is a reason this OS is free.... and there is no such thing as a free lunch.

If you are using a Dell / Acer or some other mainstream system you will be ok for the most part with an upgrade.
If you have a custom destop....you better be an IT guru if you want win10 to work properly if at all after an upgrade.

Uninstall all NVidia drivers. Restart. Goto to device manager, find the broken/missing display adapter driver and tell windows to find the driver via internet. Let windows install the Microsoft/nvida driver. rstart a few times to make sure there is no errors. Download and install the newest drivers from NVidia. This will overwrite/update the Microsoft fallback driver.

I've only been using Windows 10 for a few days, so I can't comment on it's long term usability, but I can say that I didn't have any trouble whatsoever installing it. I chose to do a clean install though vs an upgrade. OS upgrades rarely go well in my experience. Everything has pretty much worked fine except for the video driver issues. From what I've read around the web, a lot of people have had video driver issues. I also have a custom built PC with many components, like the motherboard for example, being from way back in 2007. I expected issues due to the age of the MB, but I've had zero issues other than the NVIDIA driver.

As far as them spying on me, I opted out of all of that during install anyway, so I'm not that worried about it. It seemed like it was mostly Cortana related. That's just the way OSes seem to be going now. If you own an Android or iOS device, I'd say that either Apple or Google already have the same data on you. I know that Google has a lot of data on me. I'm pretty much all in with Google at this point, but I'd like to keep it Google-only as much as possible. That's why I opted out of all of the optional telemetry that Windows collects. I wouldn't call my OS "spyware". They basically lay it all out there for you to decide if you want to share the data or not.
I would advise against doing it that way personally. I would turn off Windows' ability to auto install drivers from Windows Update and then install the drivers directly from NVIDIA. Use DDU to remove any existing NVIDIA driver first. If you use DDU, it will disable the Windows Update driver installation for you so that you can install your own. I'm thinking that mine may not have gone well due to a major update to Windows 10 being available that I didn't install. I wasn't aware of the major update back in November, and I had forgotten that I had told Windows to defer updates. I've since installed all of the updates and will try ESO shortly.

EDIT: Aaaand, display driver stopped responding... I guess it's just not meant to be for me to play ESO ever again.

There are a lot of things I dont like about 10 anyway.

Been having the same issue with automatic up date and my AMD Radeon graphics card. After several resets I finally learned what the problem is, but used up my monthly data in the process so I will be away from the game until Dec 2nd.

But basically uninstall the driver then re-install to the update you want. As my internet is reduced in speed to that of dial up (part of my IP plan when you exceed your monthly allowance) I won't be downloading any fixes in the mean time.
