Is Console Text Chat Being Worked On?

They will add some sort of text chat, I'm sure of it. I don't understand why some people are so pessimistic just because we don't have what we want right away.

It took ages to add controller support for the PC version, but PC gamers got it now, same for long asked things like hiding mount upgrades, and so on. We will be able to display our character's name soon on consoles, they confirmed it on an ESO live episode. :) The request about characters names was asked at the console release too, there was no news about it until they finally announced it, it could be the same for text chat.

See my signature but it's not being worked on nor is it something ZOS wants to provide.
The response is in the two ESO live episodes in my sig but this summer they also confirmed no change which means what was shared in the past still stands.

There have been multiple threads with all the reasons we need text chat. Out of those hundred threads or so the only two reasons not to have it have been "ZOS said no." and "Because of 40 year old usability studies."

So if your gonna say no to text chat being implemented. At least try to give us a valid reason. Because the two I stated above just are not worth the time it took to type them. Oh and the reasons ZOS gave for not having it is a complete joke.

EDIT: I forgot the other reason people say, immersion. That's a slightly valid reason and in that case, turn it off and keep playing as you have been. Problem solved.

That's from a previous thread and thought it had a little value here. Just because ZOS said no doesn't mean we should stop asking. They have already changed their minds on several things and this one shouldn't be any different.

Someone previously said the current system helps build more lasting relationships. I have to disagree. Text chat for a large portion of the community is the start of building relationships. It's also the only way some players can communicate at all. It's also a decent work around for a couple of the games problems, such as grouping and trade.

So I'll reiterate. Until someone comes up with a good reason not to add text chat. I'm gonna keep asking for it.
I want to change the world. I'm just to lazy to do it.

They can not comment all they like but it's still a basic feature that's much needed. Long after I quit playing this game I'll stop by to advocate for it here on the forums it can't hurt to offer my opinion.

I don't think they care enough about us to implement it. Even though it's a MMO basic feature they would rather know best and ignore us again and again.

    Unfortunately this....

More and more this game just seems to be about how much money ZOS can make off us while we're still willing to play and pay.

I do hope I am wrong however because I really do like this game.

They just seem not to care about what we the players want or have to say about the game.

I would absolutely take console text chat over player housing or a barber shop. I would even take it over the DLC recently released.

If they didn't care they wouldn't even listen to us.

Who exactly are they listening to?

Beyond even the text chat issue, there are several issues that have been brought up repeatedly that are ignored. The game is in a spiral state with the balance of pvp and pve along with stamina vs magicka. Several people have pointed the issues, and changes are they will be ignored even with the next balance incremental.

    No

It is a no for now, it was not supposed to be added at first and it's not on their top priority list. Yet I watched every single ESO live episodes and I never heard something like "We will never add text chat to the console version" but heard a lot of "We listen to the community feedback" and "Never say never".

It may not come up with a classic chat window, but ZOS are aware of the requests, they will enventually add a way to efficiency text chat in the future. I won't keep asking for it.

They said they will add voice chat to the pc version so why not text chat to the console version? After all, there is no need for voice chat for the pc players who can already use it via teamspeak, etc. :P

If you watch them they say we will never say never but if it comes it would be more like radial text chat or something....every time this topics comes up I share and some try to pull an optimistic approach.

The reality is it's not something they wanted in the game and so it was removed during development. It's not that it was overlooked...more context was shared in console beta forums in this topic.

So if something is added...based on their direction they want, it will not be what PC has

No console players grouping without chat. Nothing worse than trying to communicate in a hard dungeon and being ignored or can't hear calls for help. Just the console nature and they know it. I for one will not group up if they cannot speak. Sometimes play with some french guys who speak no engrish at all but still the message gets across. Waiting on text isn't something anyone wants to do when the going gets tough.

I am not a console player, nor any plans to be one. I REALLY hope you guys get text chat!

I mean no disrespect, but why even play MMO on consoles?
I get it for kids and players who plays 30 minutes before getting bored,....but ESO without keyboard and mouse?

When they announced ESO for consoles, I thought it was some small battleground version of Cyro, like Fallout shelter for Pads and phones? Who would play fallout 4 on a mini phone view?

I know consoles are 10 times bigger then PC And get all the love, but, MMO, without keyboard?
The PC game cost less, got way more control, don't require a new "box" if you don't have the latest model, or a Microsoft subscription?

Add to that, you have the option to use a gamepad or mouse on PC, and whatever voice chat you wish?
    And oh, addons.....

I fully understand ZoS for selling as many copies as possible, and the more the better for the whole ESO.
But, can someone please educate me why you choose the consoles over PC?

It's not about communicating with players in the dungeon. Voice is clearly better for that in most cases. It's about a smoother experience looking for players to run dungeons with. Text chat allows for better mass communication, and solves issues that voice simply cannot.

Yes people should be using chat not text in dungeons. Should text chat be added? Yes. Have you had multiple groups in pvp and tried to voice chat with all groups to organize attacks? Its a pain in the a$$ jumping around chats. Text chat would be better for communicating with multiple groups in pvp. While using voice for your group and text chat for multi group communication.

I havnt heard the console zone chat, but plenty of ....stories. Loud, screaming, drunk, music and what not "playing" in voiced zone chat? Plenty of threads here about them.

Voice chat works the same way for PC, with the added option to use whatever voice software you like.

The only reason I can see, is that console forces everyone to use the same voice chat.
This is true, but players who cant get voice chat to work, or give a damn, normally isnt the kind of player for team play anyway.

It's pretty much standard with TS or Ventrilo in most solid guilds. Sure, it would be added value to "force" everyone to use my TS, but that alone cant be it?

Use consoles! Me just trying to understand!

Consoles are plug and play, require less technical skill and are better OEM supported. They don't need hardware updates near as often and don't have to be dedicated only to gaming, like is most often the case on PC.

It's not an easy transistion to KBM and at this point many players could have been gaming on console for decades. There is also the point that not all games make it to PC or are well adjusted to KBM. Take the Souls series for example.

Basically while PC gaming has a lot of benefits mostly on the performance side, console offers easy of use and familiarity which is preferred by many players.

Fair enough. I gamed MMOs since EQ, and have the opposite experience. My rig is from 2011. I did buy a new GPU last year, but my old GPU still runs ESO fine on my other rig.

Depends what you buy I guess? Consoles are designed and "in a box" for the games, but I would have to pay twice what a GPU cost, to buy the console that would run ESO. And still need my PC, for most other games and usage.

You pay for the comfort. That I understand. But, I'm fairly certain PC is quite a bit "cheaper". Especially in the long run.

Well I can only speak for myself on this, but when I was little I didnt own a computer, but my father always had some kind of console, to which he introduced me as well. It became familiar, something normal and far easier for me. If I try to play a game on the PC, I find it much harder and have no sense of familiarity. I know it doesnt take long to get used to it, I use my PC for gaming as well, BUT consoles have always been there in my life, and thats what I am used to, it is just way more comfortable for me, even if it seems hard to understand for a pc gamer.

I also dont use my console to play only for 30 minutes, I play up to 9-11 hours a day sometimes, and it is very comfortable xD.

So to put it shortly, maybe sometimes its also because people simply feel familiar with it.
I had all the AC games on console, LOVED IT - played one on PC - hated the way it felt, and I even have a controller for the PC. Same with Skyrim, had it on both PC and console, yes on the PC I have all the mods, but nothing was beating my PS3 feel xD.

Speaking for myself, I want text chat to be an option too, so that you can turn it off like it never existed. At the moment, everyone is forced to use voice chat if they want to communicate in game at all, don't like to being forced to do something. :P Besides, voice doesn't suit my playstyle.

I had all the AC games on console, LOVED IT - played one on PC - hated the way it felt, and I even have a controller for the PC. Same with Skyrim, had it on both PC and console, yes on the PC I have all the mods, but nothing was beating my PS3 feel xD.

It's like asking people why do they like cheese or not. We're all different and like different things, that's all. ;)

They never say never because that was their stance on dropping the subscription, and then when they had to they got uber clowned and laughed at.
