Diary of Tryxus: "Pledges are no longer enjoyable"

Dear diary,

I've recently done over 50 Gold Key pledges in desperate attempts to find a helmet to match the many shoulders I've found in the Undaunted Gold Chests. On top of that I've farmed both Spindleclutch and Darkshade Caverns several times as well to get their specific helmets.

No luck at all.

While I'm the proud owner of several great Shoulders (Molag Kena & Blood Spawn, Heavy Divines for instance), I've absolutely found 0 helmets.

So I figured it must just be a really bad case of terrible RNG luck, for which I decided to take a healthy break from doing pledges or any dungeon farms. Even though there's a new motif to obtain, I temporarily abandoned PvE.

And this weekend, I decided to get right back on that horse, only to get knocked off of it.

Gold Pledge of today? City of Ash.

"No Problemo". I've done that dungeon several times as well ever since a friendly group of DC players took me with them for my first try. I died several times back then since I didn't know the mechanics of the bosses, but I promised I'd get better at it.

Today, I'm a vampire with a max of 16k HP, and the dungeon is now a piece of cake for me. The only problem I encounter at times is when the Ash Titan decides to place a big red circle underneath me while I have a smaller red circle on me.

But despite that, I pull my weight, I reach about 15-16k DPS (more depending on Mundus and crit success) and I barely die (only sometimes during Ash Titan, we he trolls me with his circles)

I saw a DPS and a Heal LFGing in the Stormhaven Zone Chat, so I invited them, only for the healer to call me inadequate due to my low hp and being a vamp. The healer left, telling me that he wouldn't waste time with a glass cannon that would die over and over again.

I felt crushed when he said that. Even with my low HP and being a vamp, I barely die during any dungeon and I always pull my weight. But he didn't even try and give me a chance.

So all things considered:
- I can't get the good rewards from dungeons at all
- and now ppl don't want to play with me anymore due to my playstyle

With a terrible RNG and mindset of the players, I have officially decided to give up on pledges. Which is a bit of a shame, since I had several other gear setups planned so I could try my hand at being a better NB Healer (Bogdan + Kagrenac for instance). But now I've thrown those plans out of the window and I'll just stick with my Julianos + Molag Kena Shoulder

Thank you for letting me write this into you, dear diary.

From within my own imagination,

With all due respect my friend if one guy leaving a group because your play style will cause him extra work "crushes you" ... you truly need some more life perspective on what is truly "crushing".

As an aside, 16k really is damn low.

The loot RNG system will kill this game quicker than anything. Even the increasingly toxic and elitist community I think at it's core is more a result of frustration over this constant RNG grind than anything.

People waste so much time on this "pray to RNGesus" gear progression model they have little time to "give other people a chance."

ESO needs a gear token system where the time invested nets you the ability to spend tokens on the gear you want/need. Make it so the time it takes is comperable to grinding that gear out now (RNG average), but give players the sense they are working towards a definite goal not this "well you MIGHT get a drop and it MIGHT have the right traits" BS.

At the very least allow crafters to re-trait badly rolled items.

RNG^RNG is a burnout-generating and generally terrible design.

Remember that vet dungeons now scale up to V16, so damage taken will be higher than the previous VR14 cap for vet CoA.

That said, many many people have misconceptions about what makes a build. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt, but in your case I'd advise you to join a guild or get a few buddies that you usually run dungeons with. They usually won't question your build unless it's actually sucky :p

I'm sorry, but you try to run 100+ dungeons without getting what you want and after that being told you're inadequate

That would ruin your mood too

As an aside, 16k is enough for a NB with plenty of Siphoning skills

I am sorry and maybe this will sound harsh but ppl want the meta and in the end ppl say they want unique builds and play styles ... They don't. When you have a thousand cp no one will care until then drop vamp (not useful in city of ash) run with 20 k health and 15 to 16 k dps is not good enough... try 20 then we are talking. Being unique is not a weakness but conformity has advantages in pug groups. If you were in a guild and ppl knew you and trusted you it would be very different but save the vamp for pvp.
Sorcerna, proud beta sorc. RIP April 2014 to May 31 2016 DArk Brotherhood. Out of retirement for negates and encases. Sorcerna will be going back into retirement to be my main crafter Fall 2018. Because an 8 k shield is f ing useless. Died because of baddies on the forum. Too much qq too little pew pew. 16 AD 2 DC. 0 EP cause they bad, CP 2300 plus 18 level 50 toons. NA, PC, Grey Host#SORCLIVESMATTER actually they don’t or they wouldn’t keep getting nerfed constantly.

Join a good guild, most guilds would then be more likely to give you a chance and see how it goes.

Nope, only problem I've got is Ash Titan. Other than that, no problems at all.

    It's not a unique build

It's similar like this one: forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en-GB/discussion/comment/2455229/#Comment_2455229

Only diff being Mundus Stone (Thief for PvE) and Skill Setup
Bar 1: Double Take, Piercing Mark (for the armor debuff), Shadow Image (15% damage reduction), Impale and Inner Light. Ultimate Soul Tether
Bar 2: Siphoning Attacks, Relentless Focus (proc), Funnel Health, Sap Essence, Inner Light. Ultimate Shooting Star

Gets me to 18-19k DPS. It's a typical NB build for PvE, only I run full Magicka because the low HP is not a problem if I can keep using Funnel Health and Sap Essence

Besides, I'm a vamp for the skills and passives I use in PvP. You can't honestly expect me to get rid of it every time I wanna run a pledge now do you?

From one of the best Sorc theorycrafters on Tamriel Foundry:

"If you are at the CP cap you should be hitting around 16.8k which is maybe risky to play with but definitely enough for end game content as you already got defensive passives from the champion system. You can put some attribute points in HP to hit around 17.5k if you wanna play safe."

    Yolo Wizard

I would imagine this generally holds true for Magicka NB with all their passive healing as much as for Sorc.

I firmly believe we need an alternative token system for the undaunted pledges. The idea was that their coffers are full from all the dungeons they've done, so why can't they pay us in large gold tokens that we can exchange for helms and shoulders.

Heck, if you want to keep RNG, then make each Helmet Coffer RNG as to what trait it will be if it makes you happy.

    Absolutely,

A MagBlade's best friends in PvE dungeons are Funnel Health, Sap Essence and Soul Tether.

Funnel Health and Sap Essence are alternatives for Force Pulse and Elemental Ring, but they do more damage and are cheaper in Cost while returning Health not just to you but also to team mates. Plus Sap Essence gives Major Sorcery (+20% Spell Damage)

Sometimes against mobs I start out with a Soul Tether before activating Siphoning Attacks and weaving with Fire Destro Staff + Sap Essence.

Also, Major Evasion from Double Take: 20% dodge chance

A NB can def survive with 16k Health, even as a vamp in CoA, which I've done dozens of times as well.
