PS4 .... Vet maelstrom arena

Hi Community,

I come on here asking for help I have hit a wall In vet maelstrom arena,

I consider myself a decent player was farming WGT and VDSA when it came out,
but vet maelstrom arena Stage 5 ,round 3 has me stumped me ……. I’m just taking way too much damage from adds and can’t get them down fast enough. My damage is good, all my gear is legendary I use 5 piece kagrenac’s and 3 piece arch mage(can switch out for Molag Kena 2 piece), With arcane rings of willpower and Nirnhoned staff ….. But here is the catch I only have 220 champion points.

I have researched all videos online and everyone seems to be a max champion point cap or close to it am I doomed to fail here as I don’t have enough champion points?

I wouldn’t consider myself a casual player, I play every evening when I come home from work I have 2x vr16 1x vrx8 but I don’t farm champion points I just enjoy the game by running dungeons and playing pvp.

I see on console that only two people on the whole server has completed vet maelstrom arena and I know they are max champion point cap or close to it.

If I saw an angle like the other stages I would carry on trying but the truth is I don’t……. I know what to do but it just doesn’t work out like that with the amount of damage I take …..

Combine that with the fact it doesn’t save my progress and it took me 5 hours to get to stage 5 last night and is starting to make me feel like I can’t get any further so what’s the point in trying.

I think I was slightly slow to this decision as everyone I know and in all the guilds last night on PS4 and nobody was in maelstrom arena.

I understand though that if you play on PC and are close to cap you certainly don’t want this nerfed and fair point. I played WOW for years and hated it when they nerfed things but on console between the clunky use of a controller over a keyboard, lack of champion points, I can’t see that even 1% of the PS4 community will get through this.

Anyway if you have any pointers im happy to listen and try and adapt my playstyle, maybe I will try it again when I have a whole day to burn.

Also if you have completed it please let me know how many champion points you have? If someone has done it with lower than 220 champion points will defiantly give it another go.

The spider round? You need to get to a glowing post. And watch for webspinners and take them out ASAP. The little spiders won't harm you when near a glowing post.

I was out and about yesterday, but I'll be running it today after work. I have less CP (190), different gear (V16 Juli/Kena), but I am pretty confident I'll plug and chug through it.

What class and build are you running it on?

Stage 5 round 3? Is this the round with the 2 frost atronachs? This in one of the toughest for me too. The incoming damage is massive. Don't hesitate to use the sigils if you aren't going for a high score.

Im running it on my sorc.

crystal frags, crushing shock, pulsar for AOE, hardened ward, streak .... negate or greater atro.
surge, bound lightning, harness magicka, hardened ward, healing ward. overload

Alternative build .... lose bound lightning and pulsar and use magelight.

It's the frost area.
It's the same part i have got stuck on so far, I will switch a few skills around and try it again tonight.

I use a Siphoning Nightblade build and its mainly single target dps but when i try again later i'm going to try aoe them down with veil/sap, if you run to the edge near the ice platforms you can get the range ones to follow you and they end up pretty much on the ice platform then you can run back to them and have everything pretty much grouped up for your aoe.

Im also on Ps4 and have around 190 CP

I've done it using the damage/ward sigils to burn down the first atro and adds, then picked the healing sigil to help with the second atro. But I'm playing a templar, so I can't give much advice how to do it as a Sorc.

good luck craig let me know how you get on.

I tried for over a hour to get them more grouped and failed. My AOE skills dont heal me so im having to shield stack at the same time, liquid lighting and impulse range are not great.

Eventually called it a night might try my templar tomorrow instead and see if puncturing sweeps makes it slightly easier i doubt it though.

Might want to use Resto staff as secondary - slot Healing Ward, Harness magicka, Hardened Ward, Daedric Minefield to slow enemies down.
IMO as a sorcerer with decent experience, never slot things like magelight or suport skills on your main bar, keep them all close together on your support bar so you can stack up shields and keep yourself alive through huge damage. Survive the bursts, then rebuff yourself, reapply all shields and go on the offensive, but you can't do that properly is you have your dps bar mixed with support skills - keep them seperate.

I use exactly the same build as you - 5 Kagrenacs, 3 Archmage, 3 willpower, Destro and Resto staves as this build is ideal for 1 vs X pvp and maelstrom arena, as in both scenario's, you face multiple hard hitting opponents. And you need both decent dps and good sustain to survive.

You need to work on your rotation by the looks of things. You have the right build, just need to get the skills in right order as that matters a lot.

My main concern isn't mobility, it's sustainability. Popping Magicka pots when they're available, tagging elemental drain on targets to get a proper return weaving, and hopping into PO when *** hits the fan.

My rotation for pve (doing dungeons) is pretty solid i think as im using the same roation as YOLO Wizard on PC

I changed DW for resto when doing VMA

resto bar: was Surge, inner light (so it doesnt come untoggled), harness magicka, hardened ward, healing ward,
Destro bar: inner light ,Cfrags, Force pulse/crushing shock, harderned ward to save my skin or pulsar, streak as offensive stun.

I got past the first 4 bosses with this build and few minor tweaks,

I also have dropped inner light for this stage 5 boss and used more AOE skills.

My sustainability comes from weaving on targets marked with elemental drain, with them occasionally standing in liquid lightning as well. The return on it keeps me pretty full coupled with pots, and it only really drops renewing shield/surge, or the occasional cfrag proc.

Hello OP,

Your gear or CP does not matter. I did that stage with 120 CP points, Purple V15 gear (V16 Gold Nirnhoned Staffs though). So it can be done.

But i had immense problems as well on that stage. I would recommend seeing the discussion i started here, although this is for the final boss; http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/2439534#Comment_2439534

The basic principles are the same;

Do not kill the bosses (Atronachs) - they are not going to do any great damage to you, and they are slow.
Instead, kite all the enemies from plate to plate, killing adds. If possible, nuke the adds, as soon as they come.
As anywhere else in vMSA it is KEY and PARAMOUNT to kill all ranged adds first!

If i recall correctly, my build for this stage is Restro/Destro;

Destro;
Inner Light, Frag, Crushing Shock, Power Surge, Streak

Restro;
Inner Light, Healing Ward, Harness Magicka, Hardened Ward, Boundless Storm

I have also had some serious trouble with the two atros. As i see, you can go two ways, depending on your Damage or Sustain. I am best at sustain, so i kite alot. If you are good at DPS, you nuke them adds.

Adds are key. Get them out of the way, and they will stop coming. When there are only the two atros left, it will be a piece of cake to take them down.

Oh, almost forgot. For this stage i have found Dawnbreaker to be really useful for a quick DPS burst, in between my shield stacking. You will get alot of mobs grouping together when you kite from plate to plate, and here the DB shines. Meteor as well, but the cost is also so much more, and adds will move out of the AOE, whereas DB's DoT will remain.

Final note;

As a Sorc, i have found that using Pulsar Ring is a bad idea. It will drain your Magicka and not kill anything. Throughout the stages, you need to focus ALL your DPS on one single target - mostly the ranged adds. Using spammable AOE will get you killed, unless that AOE is Steel Tornado.

The AOE Dots like Liquid Lightning etc. are fine to use though.

Looks like Kiting the adds from platform to platform is the way through.

I tried again last night and managed to get past it but then I got stuck on round 4.
I was finding the last couple of spawns on that round was too much to keep up with so I made sure I saved using the sigils until just before that part.

Dude... It is so hard on console, because of the lack of information given (no add-ons). I just made a thread about it. It's also troubling that on console, there's not that many experience base where large amount of champion points are there to make the experience easier. I can do vMA on PC/Mac no problem with my sorcerer, because of the high amount of champion points I have. Plus, I have add-ons which are informing me of key things going on. On console? I have only 267 champion points, and no add-ons. My sorcerer is struggling hard with vMA.

I can't even beat stage 1...
