Housing is IMO only cool for guilds.
The Animal Crossing games are pretty much nothing but housing, and sell rather well. And a bit draw to Elder Scrolls games as far back as Morrowind was housing as well. Side games and non-combat activities are REALLY important to MMOs in general.

The fact is that Cyrodil is unique concept, show me one mass-PVP 3 faction game with siege mechanism? I can show you half dozen with Arena. So, they should indeed keep improving Cyrodil and makes it the best possible. Cyrodil Improving means growing, Arena means stagnating for the game.

    10 year old?

I'd improve Cyrodil landscape, I'd make different Castles for each alliance, own siege weapons as well, I'd add Ladders, Mammoths as gate-destroyers, Siege Towers, I'd add Castle Upgrades for each castle, so theres variety, no more grinding the same old keeps and castles. That should rock people's socks out! Add some Arena and everyone just goes boo.

Some really nice ideas there, especially mammoths.

Hate to break it to you but this is an RPG and the RP population is pretty strong (at least on PC).
If all you do is pvp then I understand the narrow viewpoint but you need to understand that there are a lot of other playstyles around here and they should get their needs met, too.
Oh I fully understand there is other play styles but what would they do with housing? You could meet people there yes, but taverns are already in game - perfect for the RP fan, and hardly used. What great significance would housing add??

Well I guess the majority of these role players are thinking that since you can marry someone in this game already, next it is only fitting to go to their player house and consummate the marriage?

That's a cute scene and all, but not the reason. It's the decorating, gardening and furnishing part that people are into usually. They want to hang the ogre head over the fireplace, sit in the chair they made from crafting rubedite wood, pretend the recovery drink is irl mead and be like "this is heaven".

I'm not fan of housing in MMO's myself, unless you have to fight others for the land and build it yourself from scratch. Just placing pretty furniture, dyeing walls and changing position of some flower is totally boring. So I do hope ESO housing is more than just home decoration.

Ladders & castles? Stfu, that sounds awesome. These are the best new ideas I've seen for Cyrodiil. I hope ZOS is lurking. IC needs help badly also, Too many people hate it and go there just to grind mats. Craglorn is pretty empty too, only Nirn farmers dotting the landscape.

But I'm excited for any new content, housing or whatever.

Interesting to see how they do Housing, are we sent to some private island or realm or they just put them on normal zones. I personally hope both, I think it'd be cool if there was some unique houses on normal zones too, rare but only the best of the best earn those, really some high-end gold sink, but the rest are sent to private island/realm.
They would most likely be diffrent instances.

Sorry but that would single handedly kill PVP ...just imagine all the nerf threads that would follow and all the balance issues that would create and how that effects PVE...All so a few can stroke there egos

I love small scale pvp but thats ruined by zerg ball loons spamming a few skills lagging the server in the process then moaning about server performance :*
Adding arena wont fix PVP... addressing AOE spamming by removing AOE from PVP would fix it

What they should do is send a questionnaire out to all players who sub to get a idea of what players want added and not just whisper in the ears of a few selected guilds or try and gauge it from these boards

Same as it adds in a single player game I would imagine. Somewhere safe to park your character at the end of play, somewhere to display trophies, etc, and not forgetting somewhere to RP with buddies.

I could understand this if it was ever implemented and I would be all for having a safe place to log out. Taverns would be more useful and would be a focal part of the game to roleplayers. But it isn't a part of the game play. Housing would be redundant in a month because you would have nothing to do with it. Bit like IC is to PvP players.

DCUO has massive auctions going all the time for the stupidest decorative additions to your home base, I mean upwards of millions of dollars in game cash over things like...a shiny black crystal.

I do believe you underestimate how much people really like playing with customization.

What's more, they could add housing loot to Every. Single. Boss. In. The. Game. making zones like Craglorn explode with people again who want to run in and hit those anomalies hard to get that drop for the chance at a curtain rod that looks like it has dragon heads on it.

Now, the thing that I'm most excited about and I hope comes to console as well: is the native combat number display. It will be nice to not wish I had FTC every time I log on to my PS4 account.

Did they mention anything about how you would get whatever you need for housing? I mean, I assume they didn't go into any details like that.

I'm asking because I am a poor soul. So I can only get things in game, not by buying crowns. I'm hoping they will continue with the idea of anything in the crown store can be found in game as well.

If it were me, I would put all but the most basic housing drops into the world, let players find them in chests, delves, world bosses, dungeons, trials (especially trials), and other such things. Make getting that cool looking Golden Falcon Headed Armchair be worth getting by doing all the content.

Any crown store stuff would just be for ease of purchase.

What great significance would housing be to a combat based mmo?? I wanna PvP properly - without lag, not decorate my house, buy nice furniture, and stand my toon in it.

Well they could take inspiration from Path of Exile where your house contains a waypoint and you have the ability to invite certain NPCs to stay there that offer daily quests and items for sale. You can even have your vanity pets run around, which in ESO can be a pretty fun feature.

Housing could also possibly expand upon the awful guild trader system.

The one thing I don't like about housing, in any MMO, is that it empties the cities. To me there's nothing more depressing in a MMO than an empty social zone. That means I don't want to see crafting tables, bankers etc. in houses.

The big question is where houses will exist? Will it be a separate zone or zones or will we be able to purchase any of the numerous vacant houses in the world? I greatly prefer the latter. That's proper Elder Scrolls-style housing.

I want player housing in ESO for the same reason that I spend a ridiculous amount of time customizing my settlements in Fallout 4--because it's a chance for creative expression in a videogame where you would otherwise spend 99% of the time doing the exact same stuff as everyone else.

Just look at some Youtube videos on Fallout 4 settlements and you'll get the picture. No two of them look anything alike. Players have really jumped on the chance to create their own unique spaces. And that's what it's all about for me. Everyone else has done the X, Y, and Z side-missions, but no one else's Sanctuary settlement looks anything like mine.

Think armor customization and dyeing, only on a MUCH larger scale.

*If* housing is done right, it could be a great thing for ESO--and it could keep people playing the game for a long, long, time. Give me a chance to create a unique space. If they don't just restrict us to the same generic choices like in Skyrim and Oblivion, and adopt a highly-customizable system more like Fallout 4, everyone could have a housing space that's unique and creative. And the best thing about it is that in ESO, unlike in Fallout, other players could be invited to visit and see what you've done for themselves (and you could visit them too, to see what they've done differently).

The funny thing about it is that when I bought Fallout 4, I never expected to even care about settlement building. When Bethesda first announced it and started showing it off, I was all like "Who cares?" But when you actually start messing around with it, it's amazingly addictive. You should see what some of my settlements look like (just look on Youtube and see all the crazy stuff others are doing too).

Think Fallout 4, not Dragon Age Inquisition, ZOS. People will love it.

Actually I get thia is something a lot of players have been asking for , so I'm happy Zos has listened to their wishes. I just hope they put more of an effort into fixing the real issues the majority of us have asked for like fixing lag , loading times , quest bugs , better gear etc. I personally gave up on text chat and better trade system. I get I'm just one person but I'd hoped.

none of those things is my concern. I just want them slow down a bit for new contents and spend some time dedicating to bug fixing, rebalancing and server and client performance improvement. and i hope they won't forget to add the option to turn it off for the scrolling combat text and nameplate.
