Chapter 2 - How to lose at life
You know, with the luck I have, I had no hesitation there would be another unfortunate series posted so quickly. it's a sad truth I endure every day.
As a few of you are aware, I've been farming IC solo for quite a while now trying to get hold of a Xivkyn poly - any one really, I don't care. I just want to drop something cool, which I've never done before.
I've somewhat lost the motivation after 22 boxes and nothing but ridiculous set pieces with traits not even a mother would love. However, this morning
@SHADOW2KK told me he was going in if I wanted to pop along. Hell yeah, of course. So I log my vet and we go in.
Because I was with him this time, and my bad luck radiates brighter than the sun, it seemed to have attracted the sewer bosses more than usual. We were getting attacked left, right, and centre. The mobs were hitting harder, I ran out of food/drink while deep in the sewers and the lack of sustain finally got me killed. It was a great experience.
And the inventory.. OH MY GOD THE INVENTORY. Constantly I was destroying things to make room for more useless crap we'd loot from chests, and some weird collar thing a scamp dropped. What the hell good is a collectible anyway? To use up more inventory space so you're forced to upgrade? Well played.
Anyway, we'd run back every 1,500 stones or so and bank just to be on the safe side, even though we didn't run into any hostiles. It was a long grind between dodging the sewer bosses, PVE, managing my inventory, getting annoyed with chest thieves that jump on your loot the second you clear the room. Pretty terrible experience, but you know what? I wanted that poly, and I'd work damn hard for it if I had to.
Collected 3k TVs for a lockbox. Shadow told me he got his on the third one using that lockbox, so I was like aight, aight, I'll try that. With a weary heart after the long grind session I remove the remaining TV stones from my bank and head to the vendor.
Hmm, the lockbox is red... oh, VR16. I figured the fact that it was going to let me purchase it means I could open it, just not wear whatever I drop, unless it was the poly. I figured this was a nice idea, so I'm not limited to the 600 TV boxes that have next to zero chance of dropping the polymorph.
So I bite my lip, cue the dramatic music, and slowly move my finger towards the 'e' key. I click it. Not enough inventory space. I'MA KILL SOMEONE.
Ok, ok.. I'll destroy this green ice staff. I only go ahead and accidentally destroy 100 hemming instead. God damn it.
Alright, well I guess I've got room now. So I purchase the 3k lockbox, aaaand apparently I'm not high enough level to use that item. OH. MY. GOD.
WHY DO YOU LET ME PURCHASE ITEMS I CAN'T USE? The gear inside the lockbox, I completely understand. But it's a god damn box. Let me open it to see what's inside. I just wasted hours of my life (and 100 hemming) for something I can't open for another 8 veteran ranks. Yes, 8. And I only just turned VR8 while during that IC session. I could literally cry.
Moral of the story; Do the exact opposite to what I'd do in any situation, and you'll have a lovely, fulfilled life.
Yours Sincerely,
The only guy in ESO without a Xivkyn polymorph
