Just curious why rocks have to be deadlier? (MA Related - saw in Natch Potes...)

The rocks surrounding the entrance area to Maelstrom Arena have become far more deadly, thus ensuring you cannot take paths untraveled.

Why? I don't get why this is a thing?

I didn't know there were rocks at the start. I've always ported in/out since I discovered it. Perhaps people were taking a shortcut somewhere.

Yeah but who cares if they do - since you can port in?

    Very true.

Instead of making rocks deadlier they could've fixed all the bugs in the bloody thing instead.

They want to protect new players from what most of us have seen too many times... maps from below, maps from above, missing walls and floors.

Originally the rocks out side of Maelstrom were made up of the same stuff the Cliffs of Dover are made of, chalk and talc. This is a very soft material and the players walking over it were wearing holes and pathways in the rocks. When it rained, the water runoff was eroding the pathways which would soon make it impossible to get to the Arena. So, they replaced the softer rocks with granite, feldspar and tourmaline which are much harder and hence won't wear out.

This makes them deadlier as harder rocks hurt more when you land on them.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I imagine it means that there was a path you could climb out of the zone nearby, and they put up world walls or the like. I was teleporting around trying to do just that today.
