OP, I believe you are mistaken.

Surprise Attack is normally a Stamina NB's main source of DPS. It only stuns from stealth, and after that it grants CC immunity.

I believe you meant Ambush, which also stuns, and sometimes can stun repeatedly.

The rotation is normally Ambush (stun), surprise attack spam followed, guy gets up and tries to flee, Ambush, surprise attack spam, execute.

I would imagine the recaps mainly read Surprise Attack and that is why you believe that is what is constantly stunning you, but it's not.

My Death Recap doesn't lie though :open_mouth:

The last 5 abilities of my death were Surprise Attacks. They locked me up.. but it's okay, ya'll don't have to believe me... I'll just try and capture it happening next time to make it into a video.

    You survived 5 Surprise Attacks?

Not many people mention it but ambush spam is one of the reasons nbs are so broken

The only reason to ambush spam is for mistformers, and those really annoying folks good at running away. You simply spam Ambush and they are perma rooted. Leaving them vulnerable for your friends to dps, or spend a bunch of Stam to not get very far.

However that is no different that spamming talons, Bombard or Encase on them. None of which, like Ambush, have any sort of immunity to soft CC (Immobolize).

As for Surprise Attack, the stun only applies from Stealth or Invisibility. Clouding swarm and Cloak will allow the stun as they are both invisibility. It also can be waited out or broken for CC immunity.

Regarding gap closers- There's a slight hitch, when hit with one, unless it has some sort of CC component attached to it like Toppling, Ambush.

This was changed a while ago to make gap closers work. Previously people most often would be out of range to melee once the gap closers animation would finish. Which was great for Crit Rush spam, but left other gap closers fairly useless.

True that. I got hit by 3 Ambushes in my death recap and while it was happening, I was like "WHAT'S NOT LETTING ME MOVE????" *dies* Oooooohhh...........

The only problem with this is that Ambush has a long range/no minimum cast distance. Talons has to be used when already close to a target and still lets players use abilities while in them. Same with Encase. Bombard is a cone AoE, and can be moved out of if the player is paying attention. Again, players can use abilities still while in the AoE. Ambush literally lets you do nothing. OP? Or Nah? I've stopped playing my Stam NB because I just feel bad for how easy it is. I've since rolled over to my Magicka DK and have made it my main and have much more fun even though they suck atm. It actually takes some skill to kill/get away...unless I get Ambush spammed of course.

Have done some testing with Surprise Attack as a result of this thread, and it does no type of CC unless invisible or cloaked, in which case it is a 4s stun that is subject to immunity when broken.

Ambush, like other gap closers, DOES freeze you in place. Also, it will cause a sneak attack stun if you hit from behind out of CROUCH/stealth (not invisibility), just like any other physical attack that benefits from a sneak attack bonus. The lack of minimum distance allowing them to chain it back to back and the high nightblade population is, IMO, the main reason this ability gets so much more attention than the other gap closers. Crit rush does the same thing to me when I'm trying to run away from someone, but they have to wait for me to move away before they can hit it again so I do actually move some.

Maybe it's because of the cast time that they didn't think Ambush needs a minimum range requirement, but due to the nature of gap closers causing enemy players to pause while you travel to them, it needs to have a minimum distance so a single NB can't just chain immobilize you until their stam runs out (ambush is pretty expensive to just spam back to back).

Stamina damage is also out of hand when min/maxed, and stam NBs have a very strong toolset... couple that with ambush and the witch hunt is on.

IMO, make some adjustments to Stamina damage (or consider bringing back softcaps to prevent hardcore min/maxing of damage....) and give Ambush a minimum range and you'll see NBs fall into place with the rest.
