I went to a game shop and enquired about ESO, he shook his head and told me to wait for Fallout 4.

That's how bad he thought of it.

I frequent a lot of game shops and have had a similar reaction from the shop kid every single time. Not some of the time... 100%. A couple of them said if you must get it, get it on PC

I don't know.. I've tried talking with them to let them know that it really is a beautiful game but in those circles negativity spreads like wildfire. Not sure what else zos can really do to fix the image.

I can say that personally I have never seen an ESO advertisement. Not in store, on TV, on websites, etc. given I don't really watch tv anymore

Mate, lets get real, if you work in a shop and get plenty of returns will you still recommend that product?

Yea I guess that is a big part of why the shops are saying what they are saying about ESO. They are on the front lines and see the number of returns

As I've said before, according to two Gamestop locations in Portland Oregon, it is the most returned game and has been since release, bar none - and they only give pennies on the dollar back (obviously given it's nature) and cannot resell it.

To be honest though: While ESO isn't my cup of tea, I would never get rid of my copy. There's just something about it. Every few weeks I'll pull it out, play a little bit, get frustrated, throw my controller out the window and head off to gamestop for a new controller and another game. It's a ritual.

If it's good, yes. Not being popular doesn't mean that the product is bad.

Do you people think there will be a dvd version of the game including all the dlcs once?

    NOT TOP 10??? LOL!!!

Here is someone who did a very fair and reasonable assessment of how popular major MMOs are right now. According to this site, which actually uses data they have it as #4.

Yes , title says everything.ZOS must advertise their game more .Also ESO must have more promotions..and sales. Look how over-hyped is Guild Wars 2 in the last year. I wish ESO to regain his position in top 3 MMOS in the world.

Waste of money, ESO needs more polish before they even bother thinking about promoting the game.

And what does it mean? The author thinks that the game might grow big, thats it. They use data? Where do they put any information they have on ESO there?

You clearly did'nt read it. He's using public data to measure how popular current MMO's are.

No, ZOS probably should keeping a low profile now, in case people find out and laugh at the ridiculously long loading screen before they even have a chance to appreciate the beauty of the game, if there is any,

Seriously, the reputation is already bad enough. Don't make it even worse.

Elder Scrolls Online has just been featured in a commercial in the UK. It's not a commercial about the game, it's an advert for a console (I forget which one) bundle Game are selling, ESO is included in the bundle, quite surprised me when I heard someone on the TV say "elder scrolls online"!

Guild Wars 2 isn't my cup of tea, but that game is a professionally ran A level game. It is just a whole different ball park.

For more marketing to make sense, ZOS would first have to up the focus on fixing and polishing the game. It hasn't seemed like that is going to happen for quite some time.

Same I find no interest in GW2 either, the world matters a lot for me to get into MMO's. However GW2 did something right which ESO fumbled on and that was going straight to B2Play.

Because of this they didn't phase out any customers who found $15 for a buggy mess of a game to expensive to pay on top of buying the intial copy.

Now ESO has this terrible reputation because of it's launch and is doing all these #tag promotions because it's free. My only hope is other MMO's learn from this kind of mistake and remember that bleeding your customers dry on a buggy launch is not and excellent way to get people interested in your product.

why shall ZOS bother advertising the game when the players are ruining it (especially PvP) by zerging with steel tornado and sap essence? PvP is half of the game, and its ruined.. why advertise a soon to be dead game? to bring people to see how is PvP in this game and quit? ZOS must be ashamed of their player base ^^

People have already made their mind up about this game. Just the other day I was trying to bring some new people into the game. Get hem to try it. At the meer mention of ESO, they say they don't want to pay a sub. They already know of the game as it was, not as it is.

imho eso really has to improve w.r.t. long-term progression.
between CPs that created a huge gap and mediocre BOP sets with capped CP, we are lookign at two extremes and neither is right, if you ask me.

You cannot let players that live for the game pull ahead too far and lock out newcomers, but taking away any feel of character/account progression from those that have already played a lot, is very dangerous for an mmo.

if I'd go into orsinium for a full evening, i'd progress close to zero in terms of XP and marginally in terms of items and selleable things (especially compared to, say, farming sewers or picign f*ing flowers the whole time.
if i run arena, I might get a mweapon i don't use now btu maybe in the future on some other build but chances are I will end up with an accoutn that has marginally more XP but less items/gold on it after playing for a full evening.

At 36 PvP is only that much progressing because whiel the current icon is awesome, 4 levels of ugly icons await me. However, that still works for me. If it didn't I wouldn't be positng here anymore

This sums it up. People still think it's a subbed game or sub par because of the initial marring they did at launch.

Not really, this is to get new players interested and many people still see the game as something terrible on top of buying the game and still think they are required to sub to play it.

Even if ZoS did an advertisement blitz it would fall on deaf ears because of the initial launch reviews.

To top it off the game is still buggy and being fixed and there problems here and there. I would say ZoS would have to really dedicate themselves to improved department communication when adding content, proper class balance with "unbiased lead designers", and method to allow new players to jump into group content without having to wait hours in an empty zone with a proper method of trade.

It may not seem that much on this list but that's maybe 2 years on top of adding new content.
