Anyone else think the game is getting better?

I see a lot of negative comments on here I even make a few check my rants about the lack of communication on EU downtime. However this is because I think people are more likely to post about thier gripes and well the server was down so what else was there to do lol. So having said that I'm going to attempt to write about the reasons I think the game is headed in the right direction.

1. regular content updates with a schedule. There are undoubtedly those on the forums that remember the massive content drought for PC players while console launch was priority. Now it seems we have a set schedule of decently sized reasonably priced DLC's to look forward to. While I appreciate IC wasn't to everyone's tastes Exclusive PVPERS and exclusive PVEers seem to have been equally underwhelmed. The group of guildies who I regularly group with or hang on ts with have had some of our best moments in game in the sewers fighting uphill battles outnumbered by zergs and somehow prevailing or laughing as someone accidentally pulls the wandering boss on to our small group.
Also the challenge of the 2 new dungeons that were introduced with this update was a very welcome change of pace. I was sad to see the nerf to the difficulty however I appreciate others deserve a shot at the loot and honestly most of the achievement based players already had them and this has just made it faster to farm my last few divines scathing pieces.
Also it's not like us achievement orientated players dont have a new challenge in the shape of VMA. Which brings me on to the latest update. I can not say how much I love this zone. It feels more sandboxy more TES and actually looks more skyrimesque (probably a word) than eastmarch or the rift. The fact they included shareable world boss dailies was a genius move as I had my concerns about what my guildies would do together with the old trials not scaling and pledges taking 10 mins. These give us the opportunity to get a handful of us together and have a laugh.
The story is great and have enjoyed running into old NPC acquaintances along the way. The new sets introduced are fun and for the most part endgame viable without breaking the base game. Even the music score and new creatures in this zone are great pocket mammoths are awesome.

2. Base game changes first and foremost the introduction of a CP cap and catch up mechanism was IMHO essential to ensure the longevity of this game. I say this even though I am in the burnt zone between catch up and cap. The introduction of new ways to obtain motifs like pledges, writs and PVP was a welcome change it wasn't perfectly implemented with glass for eg but they admitted that apologised and have learnt from it and listened to players opinions on the subject. Even little things like shield dyeing while not massive was something that had been asked for since dyeing was introduced.

3. Better (not perfect communication) How many times before rich lambert took over did we see top figures on the forums or on eso live? his first day I think there were 4 lurks and I saw one today in a thread about equipment traits. Also we recently had a game breaking bug with a nb ability again it was fixed with 24hrs for the EU at least with gina bruno and rich lambert letting us know.

4. Trying maybe not always succeeding to create a balanced fun game for all class and roles. remember snipe spam infinite dodge roll perma blocking and a few others. while I'll admit we have wrecking blow spam and the stamina regen has hurt PVE tanks the intention to correct these things was IMHO the right thing. the execution may not always agree with everyone but the intent is correct. the fact eric wroble is on every other eso live demonstrates that they are aware of issues and making an effort to correct them.

5. Bug fixing I touched on it earlier but recently they have got a lot better at fixing things quickly rearming trap, refreshing path and others. previously there had been these type of things like caltrops siege immunity left in for far to long while goblin horse surfing warranted a timely fix. News today is they even seem to have nailed down the load screen boss.

6. Lets cut the current headshed some slack they inherited a lot of problems but seem to be pushing the game in the right direction and more importantly communicating more and listening more to players. Yes there are still problems with itemisation and balance still a few persistent bugs but I honestly believe the games future is looking a lot better than it has at any time since it launched.

I don't know, because I don't see a clear "The Road Ahead". As we speak, they might be swimming in our dollars while figuring out how to tell us that they gonna pull the plug.

That said... I really like the new zone.

    Nice quests
    Nice world bosses
    Very nice dungeons
    Good story line
    Awesome costumes
    Awesome environment

Sadly it took me (casual) only 3-4 days to do all quests/dungeons/bosses. But it is a nice addition to the existing zones.

All I heard of now is thieves guild and Dark brotherhood. Nothing is known still what the planning is. If they are just questlines just like the (short) straight forward one-two-quests-per-zone fighters and mageguild questline I would be very disappointed.

Hopefully I will be surprised. I do hope for

    - a prison system (like ArchAge or similar (like the old TES games))
    - guilds collide. When you are a thief, you should not be accepted in fighters guild except to help against plane melt. Or maybe you can, but when caught stealing / murdering you are expelled from the guild and have to do chores to gain upstanding to rejoin. -->kicked from guild = no access to skill line
    - a deep cavern where only thieves can go. Maybe a vampire hideout for vamps only too.
    - vamps and werewolves should be KOS when entering a city
    - dwemer vehicles like a dwemer motorcycle, or dwemer deathstar

"I am a nightblade. Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

I have no doubt that in some areas game does get better. In other it stays the same or gets worse (yeah "massive pvp battles" im looking at you). The big question is - is it not to late?

I think PVP battles have improved somewhat while obviously a way to go still the recent dot changes were intended to improve performance it may a series of small steps like that.

It's definitely getting a lot better, but until veteran ranks removed it's just piecemeal. That will really transform the game. What comes after is still beyond the horizon, so I'm not sure how it will turn out in the end.

The DLCs are so overpriced for what they contain and PvP is getting much worse. I'm not talking about the class balance, I'm talking about people abusing zerging mechanics, the fact that with siege so weak right now, and AOE caps in place, there is no real way to break up a zerg, other than with another zerg. Lag has gotten so bad that it's just enjoyable to pvp

    By Oblivion, Yes!

But... please a dwemer sphere rebuilt as a segway style mount if anything! ;)

On a more serious n ote... yes, I have to agree with the OP, Orsinium IS a sign ESO is moving up in quality, its the best yet. And while we don't have a definitive road ahead, we do have the comments about Thieves guild in southern Hammerfell and Dark Brotherhood between Colovian Highlands and Gold Coast coming for next year... and then there is still murkmire tocome someday, and then... there is the -huge- hint at the end of orsinium, which ties in with other "under construcxtion" rumours concerning clockwork city and mephalas realm...

All in all, a lot of goodie stuff to look forward to! And if they keep up that pace in quantity and quality, they have a subscriber in me for years to come...

I don't want to be too negative, because I enjoyed Orsinium, but I do wonder if it's been received so well just because we have been so starved of new overland content anything will seem good... and because it really is Skyrim Online.

But is it really all that much better than Eastmarch? ;)

While I'm being negative, there are so many bugs that have been introduced recently it's getting ridiculous, every patch brings in new problems.

I don't want to say "immersion breaking" but (and I'll try to avoid spoilers here) towards the climax of the Orsinium main quest you have to do a lot of running around checking different locations. It's all getting tense, you're on the verge of disaster, you have to get there quick so you sprint about...

And get hit with a five minute loading screen as soon as you enter a building. And again. And again. It's a good storyline, it builds up the tension... only for loading screen delays to deflate it :(

Is the game overall getting better?
Yes? It is in some respects, I suppose.

But the unfortunate fact is that the game is but a shadow of what it could have been, and even of what it used to be- before they needlessly redesigned the entire game and mechanics system, when all it needed was balance work instead of overhaul.

I don't know. If they stay on their dlc release track then I can see (or maybe I'm just hopeful) that it'll get better.

But I'm having trouble now days looking past the endless bugs/lag/load screens/more bugs/crashes.

I think the game is nice for it's atm main audience, "Skyrim Online" people. You can spend a lot of time doing your Daily Quests for Crafting, Orsinium and Undaunted. That's like 1-2 hours of game time each day which is pretty okay.

PvP is in a really bad state right now and there is no PvE Content for experienced players other than Arena. Which is content, just not MMO Content.

The whole concept of "playing with friends" is in the worst state ever since launch. Teamspeak Servers is dead, whoever is only does his daily quest and/or plays arena. Cyrodiil is lagging in the evening, the Imperial City is kind of empty. Dont know what to do in Tamriel...

Some things are getting better, some worse.

In all fairness, I think Wrothgar is one of the best zones in the game. I'm also glad to see it come out so soon after IC, though I believe content updates will be more spaced now.

What I fear is that the game will become increasingly affected by the crown store model. Already we have to jump through hoops to get gear because ZOS don't want people who didn't buy the DLC to get it: dropped gear is BoP, crafted gear is insanely expensive due to rare mats and high mat cost; motifs are split into dozens of pages with low drop rates; even crappy gear (decon fodder) has lower drop rates in the new zones...

Game design is increasingly centred on driving crown store sales, regardless of whether players remain subscribers or not. I don't think this is good for the game.

fair point we do need another trial I'm keeping my self busy getting divines Scathing want to see how it compares with my current TBS set up on my magika NB. Also like I said repeating dailies to try and get decent briarheart gear want to test that on my stamblade while your here may as well ask your opinion on stamblade I'm thinking 5 briarheart with either 5 TBS or 5 hundings.

How far back are you going?

I also remember 1.5 when the lag was much reduced, the FPS drops much rarer, the loading screens were sub 5 mins and the game was far more balanced across classes and modes of play (solo, small-scale, large-scale).

That's was over a year ago now. The PvP side has been getting worse for over a year. So when your title says "the game is getting better" and you tell me PvP is getting better.... yeah... no, not any time recently.

    boom, that's off topic ^^
I think it's okay if you need the HP for things like Maelstrom Arena. In terms of Max DPS, Briarheart is inferior especially if you dont have a Maelstrom Dagger. Briarheart's 5pc bonus is active 66% of the time at best (10s duration, 15s CD). On PTS, it always took around 2-3s to reactive after that 15s. But even if it's works ideally, you'll still have only ~290 Weapon Damage which is a bit much if you compare what you're giving up for it (3pc Nightmother 129, 3pc Agility 186 WD).

    Back to topic, please *g

    I most definitely do not.

1.The 2 DLCs do not provide enough data to reach any conclusion about the long term future of content updates. What they have launched is stuff they have been working since before the PC launch. WE do not know how fast they can produce new stuff from start to finish.

2.This actually depends on player's taste. I know that some people left because of those said changes.

    3. [Snip] [no comment] snip [no comment]. I do not concur.

    4. "Intent" does not keep player happy and active. Intent is never good enough. Intent is not good enough for any job and is certainly not good enough for a AAA gaming company.
    5. Meh.
    6. No,

Ok then back to topic while I appreciate the views expressed and peoples thoughts it seems some of you are of the opinion Im just happy (and or high) cause I can haz bear mounts and cloak works. Which may be true I may have rose tinted glasses on.
So to those who think that's the case and that the game is bad and getting worse why do you continue to play? not being confrontational genuinely curious is there something you are looking forward to that may turn it around in your opinion?
