[My Build] - Magicka Templar Help and Advice Required

cossamaximus
Hello all,

This is my first post so go easy on me, and let me say this is my first ever MMO adventure. So my knowledge on the best way to build a character is VERY limited.

I am currently ranking up my second character. My first was a stamina Nightblade, which I got to V2, but It felt too squishy for my lack of skill, and this one is a Magicka Templar. Built upon a Dark Elf...with fire resist, and additional fire damage.

my build is as currently level 35

My end game focus is as follows: Please feel free to suggest improvements etc. I am also leaving enchantments and traits out of this for now, as I have no idea on what is best. Would like advice?

Bar 1: Destruction Staff (Distance – Opener) - Inferno Staff

Destructive Clench, Vampire’s Baine, Dark Flare, Backlash (swap out for purifying light - maybe?), Breath of Life, Empowering Sweep (Ultimate)

Bar 2: Sword & Shield (Up close – Attack Bar)

Radiant Oppression, Puncturing Sweeps, Shield Assault, Blazing Shield, Channelled Focus, Dawnbreaker of Smiting (Ultimate)

Rotation: This suits me, but may be no where near ideal.

Bar 1 - rotation

Dark Flare (-30% Healing + 20% Next Attack)
Vampires bane (increase spell critical + DOT with extra flame damage),
Light attack(s)
Vampires bane (increase spell critical + DOT with extra flame damage),
Destructive Clench (DOT effect with extra flame damage)
Heavy attack
Activate Backlash
Optional - Drop ultimate (Empowering Sweep) especially if the gap closes to you before you bar swap

Repeat rotation on (Bar 1) if at distance, or swap to (Bar 2) to get up close

Bar 2 – rotation

Gap Closer with Shield Assault (2 Second Stun),
Light attack(s)
Attack with Puncturing Sweeps (Also heals) & light attack(s) until till below 50%
Execute with Radiant Destruction
Drop ultimate (Solar Disturbance (On you) or Dawnbreaker of Smiting) to finish if Execute didn’t.

Drop Channel Focus, (On you) shield Buff + Magicka Regen if Magicka and Health are getting low (or in trouble)
Swap to bar 1 for Breath of Life (Heal).

Start rotation again

If you want to use a staff, you probably want force pulse or the other morph so you can weave. It actually adds quite a bit of dps by weaving plus gains a lot of ultimate.

I was using destro and sword and board for pvp, but I now dual wield for the extra damage. I still keep my sword and board for pvp, swap it for resto in dungeons.

    My Setup:
    4 Martial knowledge
    5 magnus

I will go 5 julianos and 4 magnus when Orsinium is out.

All attributes into magica, Glyphs into health.

2 willpower sets, one regen and one spell damage.

    For pvp

    Bar 1
    Puncturing sweep
    Radiant oppression
    Vampire's bane
    Aurora javelin
    Toppling charge
    Bat swarm

    Bar 2
    Structured entropy
Harness magica (I'm vamp so fire hurts)
    Breath of life
    Elusive mist
    Blazing shield
    Ice comet

I'll always start with entropy, then vampire's bane. Straight away bufling my spell damage and crit.

Then, it depends if I'm at range. I'll use javelin and bane. Maybe use a meteor just before javelin when they can be CCed again.

If I'm going close, I'll use javelin, toppling charge straight away and then bat swarm. I'll spam sweeps then.

Repeat this, keeping my buffs up, until execute.

With good spell damage, a templar is way more than a healer. They can be good dps too. I have a lot of success on it. Plus, with sword and board, bol and Elusive mist I'm pretty tank if need be.

Buffed I'm at 29k magica and 23k health. Around 2600 spell damage, 45% crit and 1500 regen.

Dungeons, I swap willpower regen in so gain more for a bit of loss on spellpower.

You seem to have a nice build though.

is this for PvP or dungeons? Toppling Charge may be better than Shield Assault for you on a magicka build. You might want to also consider vampirism as a dark elf but someone using camo hunter can drop you in 2 hits.
