Woodworking theory

NOTE: Before anyone says anything no this thread is not about crafting lol

When you actually think about it Woodworking kind of drew the short end of the straw didn't it?

Blacksmithing: 14 Items.
Clothing: 14 Items.
Woodworking: 6 Items.

That being said, anyone else think Woodworking is going to play a role in Player Housing? 'Cause it might. :innocent:

Yes it did draw the shortend of the stick,

I would like to see some more things added to it,
    Crossbow,

Might as well accept we aren't getting Crossbows lol what with Silver Bolts and all.
Wouldn't be so certain about Spears. The handle may be made of wood but the tip is metal, thus it would either be Blacksmithing or nothing. Now if they decides to make Arrows for us to equip with Bows that might change things, but technically they'd probably make a Fletching skill for that.
Halberds are not wooden in any way lol for example:
    Bankotsu_Sword_by_cadeoremasteredto.png
One may argue the hilt is wooden but the same could be said for other Swords and Axes and Maces alike.

Yes it is true it takes far less time to learn all 9 traits for all 6 items but at the same time that does little good since they all apply only to the main hand and off hand slots, thus making them only useful for up to 2 pieces of a set.

If any more weapon types are going to be added into the game though it will no doubt be Blacksmithing. If Woodworking does get Carpentry-related things though that means we are probably looking at some similar mechanics to TESV: Skyrim homesteading. So far we know Player Housing will involve Trophy displaying and Training Dummies but that is all we know at this time so it's really all about speculation.

I think clothing got it worst since they have 2 whole armor sets to complete traits for and woodworking got it easy. I'm all ready at 8 traits for shield and bow.

I always assumed that was entirely intentional. They said back at launch that some crafting skills would take more effort (and thus have more things to craft) than others. Woodworking is like gear-lite; you want to craft gear, but you don't want to go through the hassle of researching all that stuff that you need for the other crafts. It's like Alchemy compared to Provisioning - one of those takes a lot less effort than the other.

When it comes to player housing, I'm hoping there will be crafting involved like in Skyrim, but I'm thinking it probably won't be part of Woodworking, and would be introduced as a new skill line.

Well it really depends. After all, there may be certain things only Woodworking can do that Carpentry cannot, especially since technically speaking Woodworking is required to form the basis of Carpentry. Can't build a house without wood after all lol

Margog the Hammer, the second Woodworker hireling, sends you letters about his progress in building a house for Guar. Woodworking = Housing confirmed. (Okay maybe not, but I thought it would be interesting to point it out.)

Yea, woodworking could use some love.

The amount of items that could be added with housing could bring the numbers in line with the other crafting skills

    Chairs
    Tables
    Cabinets
    Beds
    Chests
    Shelves
    Weapon Racks
    Display Mannequins

That would bring the total to 14 items. Looks good!

I do think, however, that some furniture should be a mult-craft skill. Like... bed frame is woodworking. Bed itself would be clothing.

Regular chairs would be woodworking. Padded chairs would require clothing.

Personally I am hoping for some crafting expansions in the future, someday.

Jewlery crafting, definitely. Though that would need quite a bit more things to craft then just rings and amulets to be viable... but there are options as to that, I would love to see bracelets and circtlets/crowns, as well as some non-staff alternative to destroction and restoration magic weapons... some spell focus type item, which depending on racial style could be holy symbols, ornate spellbooks, gemmed skulls, medidation crystals, shamans rattles, etc.

    Some added woodworking stuff, also.
I would love to see crossbows added as alternate weapon to to the "bow" skill line, which would be one more thing for woodworkers to craft.
More staff choices would also be neat - I have noticed NPCs get those nifty "coldfire" nercomancer staves (could be fire effects, but ice damage), "red-black" illusion staves (less damage, but unresistable?), "purple dark" warlock staves (magic damage wioth some added effect? lifesteal maybe?), "blue glow" support magic staves (possibly some alternate healing staff with magica drain effect?)... would be really neat if we got some of that for our PCs as well, yes? Also, poison-damage destruction and disease-damage restoration staves would seem logical as well...
Craftable siege engines might also be a possibility.
And of course, come housing, there might be a lot of furniture to be made...

Ha that's a very accurate observation.

Woodworking might the simplest of the three, but that's why I like it. Traits come faster and I never run out of nightwood for writs. While with Clothing I sometimes fail to get enough shadow-hide 'cause I need get that outside my usual harvesting routine.

It makes upgrading woodworking items to gold REALLY cheap and easy since there's so few items to make with wood and gold mats. Blacksmithing gets the short end of the stick since mats for it are so hard to find, especially given clothing has TWO sources of mats.

The two sources of materials actually contributes to clothing upgrades being more plentiful (at least for me, and prices people are selling them for reinforces this) since that's potentially double the items to refine in clothing assuming you kill animals while harvesting cloth nodes, which I do.
