How do people roleplay on consoles?

Really want to start roleplaying but without text chat it feels pointless

It would not be the same if its over voice chat.. It wouldnt be the same when you see some Australian Dark elf (or even in my case for people who hear me) a Cornish Khajiit..

Do people use those external text type applications?

I use voice, just group up and go for it, helps that I'm good with accents but it shouldn't matter what nationality you are if you have fun with it. Also the emotes work wonders when hotbar-ed up on a console.

I hope the addition of the Xbox Chat Pad will get Zeni to at least add in game text for the Xbox One... I rather not hear other peoples attempts at accents.

I once saw console controllers have a sort of keyboard they could plug in (The same plug that the headphones go into) but I'm not sure if the console versions have 'text-ability' ingame. So I don't know.
Console players don't really... RP much at all. Bad platform to do it effectively.

I would guess it's with voice chat, but then that draws the real question out. How would you roleplay your toon in voice chat if your main toon was a different gender than you? I would have that problem. My main toon is female and I don't sound anything like a woman. Always wondered about that.
