BUG - New Updated Gear Not Giving Full Bonus (subtracting spell damage instead of adding it)

Hi folks. This post is going to be a little bit long, but I want you to know exactly what is going on and what testing I have done.

First off, I am a very dedicated player, like many others in this game. I've been playing since beta. I spend a lot of time earning gold, farming mats, gaining champion points etc. It's always exciting when new gear comes out. New and better stats! Yay! I am going to work hard to upgrade everything and better my character! Unfortunately, the opposite happened with the new sets. Some stats went up, but some went down when they shouldn't have.

I tested this several different ways. I removed all my gear, reloaded UI, logged in/out, turned off all add-ons etc, but nothing changed. When comparing my old and new gear, I stood in the same spot in the same zone, same skills on my bar, same champion points, no food. I did everything I could think of to test this out, and my results were unchanged.

The main bug that I am experiencing is with Spell Damage. I upgraded my sets so that I could improve my Magicka Pool, Spell Crit, and Spell Damage. The first 2 went up with their numbers. The Spell Damage went down, when it should have gone up. Instead of gaining at least 50 Spell Damage, I lost 87.

Here are my stats with my old set. I am only including the stats that should be impacted by the gear change. I am using the Mage Mundus Stone and no food. I am a V16 Sorc, my race is Altmer and I have 238 champion points:
Max Magicka - 34286
Spell Damage - 3098
Spell Crit - 32%

When I put the new gear on, this is how the numbers changed:
Max Magicka - 35230
Spell Damage - 3011
Spell Crit - 38.3%

As you can see, the numbers went up for my Max Magicka and Spell Crit, but went down on my spell damage. I changed nothing but my gear. Everything else is the same.

Now lets talk about my gear. Here are the pieces from my old set:
Head - V16 Light Armor Magnus' Gift - Divines - Legendary - 868 Magicka Enhancement
Chest - V14 Heavy Armor Torug's Pact - Infused - Legendary - 796 Max Magicka Enhancement
Sash - V14 Light Armor Martial Knowledge - Divines - Legendary - 268 Magicka Enhancement
Shoes - V14 Light Armor Martial Knowledge - Infused - Legendary - 321 Magicka Enhancement
Legs - V14 Light Armor Martial Knowledge - Infused - Legendary - 796 Magicka Enhancement
Arms - V14 Light Armor Martial Knowledge - Divines - Legendary - 268 Magicka Enhancement
Shoulders - V14 Medium Armor Torug's Pact - Divines - Legendary - 268 Max Magicka Enhancement
Neck and Rings - V16 Willpower - Epic - Arcane
Weapons - V16 Dual Wield Magnus's Gift Swords - Nirnhoned Trait - Legendary

The bonuses that these sets gave me were:
Martial Knowledge 4 piece - 945 Max Magicka, 126 Spell Damage, 126 Spell Damage
Magnus' Gift 3 piece - 967 Max Magicka, 129 Magicka Recovery
Torug's Pact 2 piece - 126 Spell Damage
Willpower 3 piece - 1400 Max Magicka, 186 Spell Damage (plus 174 Spell Damage enchantment on each piece)

Here is the new set:
Head - V16 Heavy Armor Magnus' Gift - Divines - Legendary - 868 Magicka Enhancement
Chest - V16 Light Armor Law of Julianos - Divines - Legendary - 868 Max Magicka Enhancement
Sash - V16 Light Armor Law of Julianos - Divines - Legendary - 351 Magicka Enhancement
Shoes - V16 Light Armor Law of Julianos - Divines - Legendary - 351 Magicka Enhancement
Legs - V16 Light Armor Law of Julianos - Divines - Legendary - 868 Magicka Enhancement
Arms - V16 Light Armor Law of Julianos - Divines - Legendary - 351 Magicka Enhancement
Shoulders - V16 Medium Armor Magnus' Gift - Divines - Legendary - 351 Max Magicka Enhancement
Neck and Rings - V16 Willpower - Epic - Arcane
Weapons - V16 Dual Wield Magnus's Gift Swords - Nirnhoned Trait - Legendary

The bonuses that this new gear set should give me are:
Law of Julianos 5 piece - 688 Spell Crit, 967 Max Magicka, 688 Spell Crit, 299 Spell Damage
Magnus' Gift 4 piece - 967 Max Magicka, 129 Magicka Recovery, 129 Spell Damage
Willpower 3 piece - 1400 Max Magicka, 186 Spell Damage (plus 174 Spell Damage enchantment on each piece)

I know that there are a lot of other numbers going on in the background, but the pieces I changed should have changed everything positively, not negatively.

Looking at only the pieces of gear that I changed, the spell damage from my old set (by just looking at the numbers in the tool tips) gave me 378 Spell Damage.
The new pieces that I put on should have given me a total of 428 Spell Damage according to the tool tips.

The important question is, Why did my Spell Damage go from 3098 to 3011? I didn't upgrade my gear for it to go down.

Thanks for your help and I hope to hear from a GM soon.

PS: I did submit a ticket in game, but it did not have all of the details that I included in this post.

I saw the same thing yesterday when I changed over to Law of Julianos. I did notice after I had logged out and back in the numbers were correct. Not sure if this is some visual bug or what. Once I fully logged out and signed out for around 10 minutes and came back the numbers changed to what they should be. Hope they figure this out.

Thanks for your input. I did indeed try logging in and out several times, but the bug is still there. I also tested it by looking at my damage output, and the numbers were lower which meant they accurately reflected the info in my stats. I hope this gets attention soon and it is fixed. It really is a huge disappointment.

Please check out my post in the General Forum. There is a lot of good discussion going on about this.

    http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/229334/new-gear-set-losing-spell-damage-instead-of-gaining-it/p1

I just did some more testing. I took all of my gear off and removed all of my skills. Everything adds up correctly when I do this.

    NEW SET
    5 piece Julianos = 299 spell damage
2 V16 Magnus swords gives me 1602 spell damage not including any set bonuses
    4 piece Magnus = 129 spell damage
3 piece Willpower with spell damage enchantments = 708 spell damage
Total = 2738 spell damage (matches the stats on character screen)

    OLD SET
2 V16 Magnus swords gives me 1602 spell damage not including any set bonuses
(wearing 3 piece Magnus but gives no spell damage bonus)
    2 piece Torugs = 126 spell damage
4 piece Martial Knowledge = 252 spell damage
3 piece Willpower with spell damage enchantments = 708 spell damage
Total = 2688 spell damage (matches the stats on character screen)

The difference between both sets is 50 more spell damage for Julianos (not including other set bonuses)

Here are the spells that I am using.
    1. Velocious Curse IV
    2. Crystal Fragments IV
    3. Structured Entropy IV
    4. Endless Fury IV
    5. Deadric Minefield IV
    6. Energy Overload IV

Now lets look at this with one spell on the bar at a time. Using my old set:
    Velocious Curse = 2741 Spell Damage (+53)
    Crystal Fragments = 2741 Spell Damage (+53)
    Structured Entropy = 2688 Spell Damage (0)
    Endless Fury = 2741 Spell Damage (+53)
    Daedric Minefield = 2741 Spell Damage (+53)
    Energy Overload = 2741 Spell Damage (+53)

So adding all 5 together = 265. Add that to the 2688 from the gear and you should have 2953 Spell Damage, but there are other forces working in the background. Lets break it down even more. I'm going to add all the spells on the bar at the same time.

Old Set = 2688 Spell Damage
    + Velocious Curse (+53) = 2741 Spell Damage
    + Crystal Fragments (+53) = 2794 - [character window in game says 2795]
    + Structured Entropy (0) = 2794 - [character window in game says 2795]
    + Endless Fury (+53) = 2847 - [character window in game says 2849]
    + Deadric Minefield (+53) = 2900 - [character window in game says 2903]
    + Energy Overload (+53) = 2953 - [character window in game says 2956]

I just discovered something that is truly baffling me. So with all the old gear on and all the spells, with normal math the total should be 2953 Spell Damage, but the character screen say 2956 Spell Damage for some reason. Thats not what bothers me. Why isn't my spell damage matching the 3098 that I had originally? I looked more and found this...

My normal set up has restoration staff on one bar and dual wield on the other. Lets see what happens when I put the restoration staff on my off bar... MY SPELL DAMAGE JUMPS BACK TO MY ORIGINAL 3098!

Why does equipping the staff to my off-bar add 142 Spell Damage? WTH?

Lets try all of this with my new gear. Remember that the value without any spells on bar is 2738.
    Velocious Curse = 2792 Spell Damage (+54)
    Crystal Fragments = 2792 Spell Damage (+54)
    Structured Entropy = 2738 Spell Damage (0)
    Endless Fury = 2792 Spell Damage (+54)
    Daedric Minefield = 2792 Spell Damage (+54)
    Energy Overload = 2792 Spell Damage (+54)

So with the new gear on, each individual spell adds 1 more damage than the old gear.

Now I will add all to the bar while wearing new gear and compare to original.

New Set = 2738 Spell Damage
    + Velocious Curse (+54) = 2792 Spell Damage
    + Crystal Fragments (+54) = 2846 - [character window in game says 2847]
    + Structured Entropy (0) = 2846 - [character window in game says 2847]
    + Endless Fury (+54) = 2900 - [character window in game says 2902]
    + Deadric Minefield (+54) = 2954 - [character window in game says 2957]
    + Energy Overload (+54) = 3008 - [character window in game says 3011]

The total before equipping something in my off hand is 3011 Spell Damage. The old gear set total was 2956 Spell Damage. The difference between the two sets is 55 damage. That makes sense. Now remember that when I equipped my restoration staff to my off-hand bar with the old gear set, my Spell Damage jumped from 2956 to 3098. Lets see what happens when I equip it with my new gear.

    ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

So I have come to my final verdict. There is some kind of bug with my old gear that was giving me an extra 142 Spell Damage for equipping a restoration staff to my off bar. Does that mean that all this time I was getting more Spell Damage than I was supposed to, and I just didn't know it? Or am I missing something here? Is adding a weapon to your off bar supposed to add more Spell Damage to your other bar? Makes no sense.

PS: depending on what weapon I have in my off-hand slot, my spell damage changes. I put a V14 Master sword in there and I lost 2 Spell Damage on my main hand.

This is stupid. What the heck is going on here?
