Maelstrom - Spiral Shadows boss 'Spit' attack

So I have been stuck on this round for about an hour, because every since time I get the bosses health below 100k I suddenly drop dead from 'spit' that takes all my health regardless of shields. You cant even see this attack hit you, and if it doesn't kill me its doing about 2ksome damage. Is this right??
