Games looks brilliant with controller support and gamepad interface. I was so enjoyed to play this game and is nice experience with controller support and interface.

Yes but its a little tricky/difficult to play. (The roll dodge, sprint, mount and map)
Well, it will take sometime in getting used to.....

Oh hell no, how can console people play this crap with a pad?

Plugged mine in (I USE IT FOR MGR: REVENGEANCE OK?), set it on, my eyes started bleeding, and unplugged it and turned the controller support off.

How is things like movement and camera positioning? I imagine the controller would be really awkward if you're used to a keyboard and mouse. Might have to give it a crack tomorrow

Actually I could say the same about PC controls lol how do you people get used to playing a game like this with a mouse and keyboard? This was the very reason I started LOTRO and didn't stay for any more than 10 seconds.

I think the point is that it varies based on the player's invidual abilities. For some people (such as myself) gamepads are always easier than keyboard and mouse.

Well there are a few things that could improve on the controller interface but overall this game and games like it are quite playable with a controller as opposed to a keyboard and mouse in my opinion. Some of the more classic 2D games on the other hand I would honestly see more harm than good playing with a controller lol

With controller, this game is very hard to play in 1st person mode but easy in 3rd person for me.

With keyboard and mouse, this game is easy to play in either mode, for me.

Really enjoying the controller support. Once I got roll dodge mapped to down-d pad all was good.

Now I just need to redo my muscle memory. Opening the menu in middle of fights is not, um, helpful.

    1. Is the Xbox one controller the only thing that works as of now? I tried a 360 controller and it didnt work. Looks like the interface is the same as Console though. Its cool that you can remap buttons.
    2. The only thing that bothers me about a controller is when you go to pvp its harder to aim and keep target without a mouse. Do you think you could have success using a controller in PVP?

Work quite nicely. What I don't like is that LB/RB don't trigger an ability until they are released and I can't assign a button + a direction as a keybind.

Sadly the keybinding bug I had in PTS remains. I can only bind holding down a button or a combination of 2 buttons. I cannot bind a singlre press. It imediately forgets the keybind. And yes, before anyone brings it up, I am aware that it is still a beta.

But I am still very happy to have controller support.

That is what I am using, but for me the controls work and I just cannot bind custom controls.

As for what controllers are supported, any with Xiniput.

Yes, thanks for this. I didn't care to go out of my way (even if Pinnacle isn't really out of the way) to use a controller before the expansion. Patiently waited.

Now when I'm too "out of it" to sit at the keyboard I can sit in my recliner and play on my TV. Fishing and Node Running. Woot!

Well, I used to think the same but in time I found it comfortable.( gaming PC mouse)
The UI is very good but not in detail. I have to spend some time on my gamepad to be smooth with the gameplay.

I like the controller support, but it would be nice just to have it without the interface. I might just install xpadder finally. Not sure why they couldn't do plug in and play....like every other game with controller support....

Works fine with a 360 controller for me.

I wouldn't use a controller outside of casual pve, so no pvp will be a nightmare with people circling and moving as they should.

I can't roll/dodge with gamepad mode. How is this done?
  • jwhaley300ub17_ESO
Actually, when using a gamepad there are two options menus. Use the menu by pressing Esc, and you can create multiple button binds.

I was able to bind Roll/Dodge to LT+A. Perfect!

I've always found movement to be more precise with a joystick and camera movement to be more precise with a mouse. The grass is always greener...

I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents about my experience with controller support.

Things have been great so far using the Xbox One controller. It is quite the experience laying back on the couch and seeing the game in ultra setting on the big screen. Lots of customization as far as key-binds go. A bit clunky getting from the character select screen to the actual game because you have to use the keyboard, but it is beta after all.

    Other things I have tested:
Xbox one wireless done - works brilliantly
Steam in-home streaming - i streamed to both my Surface, and laptop computer - works great

    Future testing:
Nvidia Shield Portable - trying this tonight. Want to be sure the controller functions.

I would also like to try having the Shield portable connected to my tv monitor, while using a wireless controller. Either the Nvidia Shield Controller, or possibly the Xbox one controller with the wireless dongle in the Shield Portable via otg cable.

So lots of testing to be done essentially. Feel free to leave any input or anything you would like me to try.

P.S. I would love to hear from anyone who has a steam controller to tell me what their experience has been. =)

I was excited about this until I experienced the new UI. Account names showing instead of character names are immersion breaking, and using the new UI in stores gives you no option to compare an item to what you have equipped. I'll stick with my trusty Xpadder setup.

Just wanted to report back on my findings after testing the Nvidia Shield Portable tonight. Everything works with no special configuration. Just be sure to setup to enable the controller in the game settings. =)
