First impressions from a level 10 (PS4)

Hello!

So I've been looking at buying ESO for quite some time now, and I finally bought it a few days ago on my PS4. I've been wanting it since the PC release, but bad reviews and not having a good enough computer made me not buy it.

I was a bit concerned that this would be a stupid buy, maybe nobody was playing it anymore and it would feel lonely, maybe it was just like every other MMO where you get bored after some hours because it's just like every other MMO out there.

So far I've reached level 10, and I think the game is really, really great. I've enjoyed almost everything about it so far, and I am really happy I bought it. I see people everywhere, and it feels very much like an MMO.

I've not gotten very far though, only seen 1 zone; it's big, lots of stuff to find and exploring always rewards you with some neat books to read, chests to open (with loot that's actually useful!), and different enemies and quests everywhere. I like this a lot.

The only issues so far I have with the PS4 version is the lack of Text-chat, and bag space. That's it so far, but I guess I might encounter more things I dislike later on, but I've never been too bothered with stuff people normally whine about in games.

Once I reached level 10 I was excited to try out the Dungeon Finder, and do a few dungeons with some randoms. This was really hard to accomplish without an alternative way to communicate besides the voice-chat, and so far even though I've queued up about 20 times, I've still yet to find a group that has been able to actually enter a dungeon together, I think this is mostly because of the lack of a simple communication method.
Yes people can use their mics, but we NEED a text-chat, I usually join a group and go "Hello?"... Wait a few seconds, no answer... "Hellooo0o0o? Anyone here? Dungeon? I like dungeon happy time together?"

I haven't gotten 1 answer in about 20 groups, they've all ended up with disbanding. This is why in my opinion we would need textchat available. It is really hard to communicate with people, I guess they're either shy, ain't got a mic, or just queued up to 'see if it works' if they're new players. Finding the dungeon is also an issue, as there is no 'waypoint' or something to lead you there (?).

I would also like textchat because of questing, and making friends. Afterall its an MMO, and doing quests with people etc is a big part of an MMO, grouping up, killing stuff together. Most people I've encountered do not use their voice-chat, and most of the people who do have such buzzy mics and it's really hard to hear what they're trying to say.

I see a lot of resistance vs text-chat on console versions on the forum, and I don't get it?

"text chat will get us goldspammers, it will be filled with spam, it will be blablabla"

If there's spam; ignore that person (which should be an option), and remember it's a console, you're using your gamecontroller to write, it takes time, I doubt someone would sit and write something for 15seconds, and then do it again for 15 seconds a.k.a "spam". But if they do, then ignore them. Easy as that.

Please implement textchat - something like you could choose between partychat, guildchat, /say,and /all for the whole region. If you do not want to look at the textchat, there should be an option to hide/disable it.

This would make the game a lot more fun, even though I really like it a lot already. But I miss the MMO aspect of it where you get to group with people, kill stuff together, get phat loots, and have fun together!

Another issue I have is BAG SPACE!

At the moment I have my equipment, no extra swords/armor in the bags, and 50~ provision items. I'm trying to find recipes so I can craft food and get rid of them but it's not going well. I've got a few recipes (15?), but none of the 50~ mats I have in my bags are used for those recipes. I don't know if it's possible to maybe get more bags, more bagspace? Nonetheless it would be great if the provision (maybe other professions aswell if there's a lot of mats in the other ones?) could have their own space, with unlimited or atleast a high number of space. Maybe this changes later on though?

I guess after reading forums though that bagspace is the least of your concerns for now. <@:)

But all in all, it's a great game and I'm enjoying it A LOT, the only BIG issue I have atm is no text chat. I hope they push it out as soon as possible as I feel it is very needed to make it feel like more of an MMO.

tl;dr We NEED text-chat on consoles. Bagspace is annoying.

Peace out

I guess you start from not the best way, imo first you get recipes then find ingredients that matches this recipe, and you find them easy in guild stores, with no need to keep a few pcs per ingredient in your bag and 50 different ingredients that take most of your bag slots. If you have MM addon you can easily buy cheap ingredients in stores and save lots of time that way :).
Also some guilds keep free recipes in their banks and offer more adcanced (blue or purple) in their stores.
Bag can be upgraded per 10slots each time at bag merchant in main cities (check on map).

You'll eventually come across some vendors selling bag space upgrades so save that gold. Mounts have a training feature and you can add bag space once per day for a nominal fee as well. If you want the quick and easy route, the crown store sells bag space upgrades too.

Group finder hasn't really ever worked well on any platform. On pc it's not such a big deal due to text chat but I can imagine it's a nightmare on console. Welcome to ESO btw.

It gets even better at level 15 when you can use two different bar setups. There are merchants you can upgrade your bag space with. you can also upgrade your bank space which is account shared. It lessens but expect to have storage issues even at VR16 particularly for provisioning/alchemy trade crafts.

I agree on the text chat, it is totally crazy to me that they didn't put something in at release. Some good news though is that the new controller interface for PC on test had I would guess around 50 preset messages you could select so hoping that makes it to console as well.

Bag space can be purchased from a NPC called Pack Vendor/Merchant. It sells 10 more slots and each consecutive upgrade costs exponentially more, as you would expect. Same can be done with bank space at any bank.
Also mounts (if and when you have one) have an option to increase their carry capacity by 1 slot a day.

As for text chat, I'm on PC, but yeah, it's been an ongoing battle between players and ZoS, so far without results. But when enough people finally drop and ZoS starts losing money due to it, it might get changed.

    Enjoy your stay in Tamriel.

I'm not complaining? I'm enjoying this game soo much. <@:)

If you read the post again you might discover that the largest part about the post is not about bag space (I won't tell you what it is though, you'll have to read it for yourself!)

Also I spent maybe 15 minutes on making this post, I guess I'm just a really fast typer compared to you? <@;)

Thanks tho everyone for the replies, I'll be sure to go visit a bagvendor and try to organize recipes/mats a bit better! :)

That was a mistake on my part, text-chat is definitely needed on console ASAP. It'd make the game a lot better I think.

That guy needs to brush up on both their reading speed and reading comprehension, lol.

The inventory space gets better as you buy space as you level.

In regards to text-chat on console, I suggest leaving an in-game feedback if that is possible on console through the support icon "?". It may be the only way ZoS gets metrics on how many people truly wish it to be available.

    Welcome to ESO :)

I'm on PS4 (DC, EU) as well, in a guild where most people use voice so yeah I'd like text chat, but it's no biggie for me personally.

Bag space (and bank space) will always be a concern lol, at some point you have to get a bit choosey about what you pick up, try making an alt to hold stuff you may not need straight away, all alts share the same bank space (commonly called a mule)

Train your horse riding every day, speed if planning on pvp, carrying space if not, I'd also recommend doing the first cyrodill quest even if you aren't planing pvp so you get the rapid manouvers skill

I'd suggest leaving dungeons till 15, then you get weapon swapping which will make life a bit easier in the dungeons, enjoy!

Some advice is don't even bother with the grouping option. It's simply broken/useless. You'll be able to buy more bag upgrades as you earn more gold, and if it's really big deal to have more space, when you buy mount you can upgrade the mount to also let you carry more stuff.

Research all weapon/armor traits as soon as possible. You'll never know when you may want to craft something for yourself.

And welcome to ESO, glad you're enjoying it!

I've just hit VR10 and still loving this game, re the bag space I don't know if you know but you can put all your crafting stuff in the bank and use it directly from there at the crafting station, no need to withdraw it first, this saves a lot of space. I tend to have about 45 items left on me after clearing my inventory in town (and that includes a load of siege engines which I carry around), leaving plenty of space for loot (my pack size is 100 slots).

@natemb; Templar is a good class for grinding(PvE)and healing(PvP), especially for beginners. But when you reach veteran then you will realise the game as so many flaws( especially for stamina users).

So, enjoy the game and take it slow and once you reach veteran then ditch the game.

Glad you're enjoying the game. It was a lot of fun when I first started too. It's still fun, but the new game feeling for this was particularly special.

By the way, you can teleport to group dungeons once you've discovered their locations. They're like one-way wayshrines - you can teleport to them but you can't use them to teleport anywhere else. Alternatively, if you talk to Undaunted people in Inns around the zones they'll 'discover' group dungeons so you can teleport to them - even ones in different faction's alliance areas before you become veteran rank. (If you teleport to it however, you're taken inside the dungeon and can only teleport out, so it's not a means of being able to explore the other alliance areas early on)

The bit you are missing is that people have used a plugged in keyboard on console MMO's for years for a whole host of games and never had a problem. Only ZOS seems to think we are too stupid to not to be able to use one.

There can be a virtual keyboard (like a smart phone has) included with the game and many users already have a bluetooth/usb keyboard that will work (I'm using one now on my tablet). If you want to have fun then as a console guy, it seems you need a controller in order to use controller support on a PC. What am I missing that makes having text chat on consoles any different from having controller support on a PC? Both are non-native devices that many users already have.
