Attacks Missing Target

I'm just curious if anyone else has recently experienced frequent 'missed target' attacks? I've just started using 2H and noticed that frequently I'll swing and it goes right through the enemy without connecting, even one time using Critical Charge I hit the target, heard the sound of successful attack, but the enemy's health didn't drop at all. Same thing with the other 2H weapons, a swing, but no connect. I thought perhaps it had to do with being too close to the target, as many times I miss with the target directly in my face- which is odd because you'd think it'd be the reverse- the farther away the more chance of "missing". However, I even had this happen with Mage's Wrath... I case, see the initial animation of throwing the lightning in the air, but it never comes back down to hit the target, this has happened back to back a few times. I have also seen this happen with Bombard, as sometimes the arrows 'pass through' the target.

I don't recall this happening before, or if it did, it didn't happen this frequently or wasn't as obvious. So I'm curious to know if anyone else is having these same issues and whether it is recent or has been happening awhile. Being new with using 2H, I'm just shocked at how often my attacks are passing through the targets without actually hitting them.

    Misses happen when you are fighting NPC's who are higher level than you. The greater the difference, the higher the chance your attacks will simply miss.

    I didn't realize this... but yeah, I was Skyshard hunting and dealing with enemies who were a few levels above me. I think the oddest one was with Mage's Wrath... I've never seen it go up but never come back down on target.

    It does seem a bit odd though, that a player who is brave enough to take on higher levels is then penalized by a system that makes them miss. Seems to me that if you're brave enough to take on higher level enemies, then you should be rewarded for the attempt, not penalized.

    Alot of my medium inferno attacks just vanish right before they hit an enemy or player sometimes.

    happens to me only with 2h missing particularly heavy attacks, on NPCs of my level. i just dont heavy attack with 2H any more if heavy attacks with other weapons miss its around 1% or less. as i never see it, but with 2H its a good 25% sometimes more. and if im straffing around NPC ill land 1 in 3 heavy swings.

    my guess would be range/attack cone of 2H heavy is crap and animation is miss leading (range less than animation/sword length). My sword can pass through the NPC and still nothing.

    Has to do with dodge chance and is generally more noticeable when you are much lower level than the mobs you are trying to fight.

    Things like Evasion (Med Armor Skill) and certain sets will proc this. The result is effectively a zero cost roll dodge minus the roll.
    Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

    Earn it.

    @Johngo0036, dodge chance. There are various things you can do to increase it and it's free damage mitigation when it works.

    It's one of those things NB's seemed to forget they had access to every time the "We don't have a class shield" argument came up (*Cough* Mirage *Cough cough*). Back when Spectre' Eye, Hist Bark, and a few other things stacked, it was possible to have upwards of 70% dodge chance.

    Fortunately, you don't get as many additive bonuses in that regard anymore, so it's less of an issue.

    Sure, I understand about evasion and such, but I'm talking about PvE NPCs... so they're using evasion abilities now, too? Because if not, then ZOS needs to step up and figure out why fully targeted PvE NPCs aren't being hit, especially at point blank range. Like I said, I cannot understand why a Mage's Wrath attack will fail to hit a target multiple times in a row- lightning goes up, never comes back down. :/

    @ADarklore , yes, even NPC's have dodge chance. I've seen it with a lower level Sorc trying to frag an NPC 30 levels above his. It just flew right past.

    @revonine , damage dodged = damage mitigated, however you call it. That, my friend, is the very definition of a shield.

    100% mitigation, without limit, 20% of the time is huge.

    *Cough* False *Cough*. What you say is a shield is a buff. Mirage simply increases physical and spell resistance. A damage shield add a layer of protection to damage before your health starts dropping. Such as sorcerer shield staking. So, yeah... FAILUREEEEEEEEEEEEE :trollface:

    Next Patch Notes: Hardened Ward now changed to increase dodge chance by 20%. Reflective Scales now has a 20% chance to reflect projectiles.
    Dodge chance is fine. 100% migitation is cool when it works but it's completely unreliable nature makes it completely subpar to actual shields. Any Nightblade I know uses Mirage or Double Take for the increased resistance or movement speed respectively relying on RNG to win fights is foolhardy.

    also assassin style NPCs have a high dodge chance so even if you are at the same level you can still miss. It could be worse it could be the same chance as Morrowind
