Question about weapon swapping with Armor Master and Shroud of the Lich

So I'm theorycrafting a light armor tank build for my Templar and don't know how duration based 5-piece bonuses operate with weapon swapping when that makes the set lose the 5-piece bonus. Specifically, If I have a healing staff for the Lich set and it procs, and then I switch weapons, do I keep the regen bonus for the remainder of the duration? Or is it instantly lost when I switch weapons and drop to a 4-piece Lich set?

Alternatively, If I have a 1h/s equipped and both the weapon and shield are part of Armor Master set, when I cast Annulment or Evasion will I retain the resistance bonus from the 5-piece for the remainder of the 10s duration after I switch weapons even though I would not have 5 set pieces equipped? I'm just trying to see if I can run full Shroud of the Lich as well as Armor Master and just use the weapons to complete each set for when I need the 5-piece proc to occur. Any help would be appreciated.

A good way of testing would be to get 5 pieces of ravager set and make sure the weapon is the 5th piece, get the set to proc and then weapon swap. I'm almost positive if the set bonus gives a buff that lasts for a time period you would keep the buff after switching weapons and losing the 5th piece bonus.

Edit: I suggest ravager cuz I imagine most people have it by now

Sadly I'm on PS4 and ZOS made v14 sets less than desirable so players are not exactly spending AP on bags right now. I was just curious if anyone already knew the answer for this question.

Ah I see, well I happen to have a ravager set so if you don't know by tonight I'll test it and post the results when I can get on. I feel pretty confident in saying you will retain the set bonus after switching but doesn't hurt to test things before farming sets, especially that lich set, probably one of the most rare sets in the game.

Can I ask you what you plan on tanking in this set up though?

The theory is that I can use Armor Master with Evasion/Annulment to tank as a light armor, magicka Templar while using Rune Focus, heals, and blocking to mitigate damage (think Red Mage/Ninja if you have played FFXI). The Shroud of the Lich set would just be a quick buff swap that would significantly boost my regen for 20s every minute. I have seen Fengrush run with a light armor, magicka Templar that can tank/heal for their group so I was just messing with some ideas but wasn't sure how the 5-piece set bonuses operated when they have a duration and you switch weapons (specifically the Shroud of the Lich set).

Since light armor had its armor value boosted with IC the idea is to combine this with a CP setup that allows for steady damage mitigation from blocking, evasion/annulment, and healing.

I see, I tried something similar on sorc but instead armor master for resist I went with Max Magicka and Magicka regen so I can spam hardened ward since it's like a 25-30k shield. Works well with vet pledges but not so much for trials or the new vet dungeons (WGT and ICP). But since you are getting resistances up it may work. So you want armor master 5 PC on your Sword and Board bar and the lich 5 piece on the destro bar to buff your regen then to switch back to SnB and keep your regen buff from lich? I'm like 90% sure that will work as far as keeping the regen buff after switching off of 5 piece lich goes. Do you know how high your resists are gonna be? And you are most likely still going to have to block quite a bit for boss's big charge attacks unless you get your health up to like 30k so have you tested what resource pools you are gonna shoot for and How much block cost reduction you may need? Wish I had a Templar to play around on lol.

One nice advantage of being a magicka build is that blocking doesn't stop my magicka regen. I'm also an Imperial so getting my health up a bit won't be that detrimental. CP will help for resistances and I haven't run all the numbers yet but there are some really good CP passives as well. Templars also get a blocking passives so when combined with 1h/s I can mitigate a fair amount of damage. I can also cleanse on demand and spot heal while keeping Purifying Ritual up for the bonus heal %. The healing staff passive for low health targets is just gravy at that point. Again, this is still a theorycraft so I don't have hard numbers yet but after seeing Fengrush DPS race through vet WGT with a light armor, magicka Templar tank/healer, I know that it can work. I'm just curious how to best optimize it and I won't know for certain until I know how the set bonuses work.

The basic theory is 4-piece Lich armor, 3-piece Armor Master armor, 3 Willpower jewelry, Lich healing staff, and Armor Master sword and shield.

It's a theorycraft at this point so I'm not concerned with costs yet. Besides, if the duration remains it easy enough to sub in alternate regen sets and adjust CP to compensate. Heck, you could even swap to DW, add in 1-piece Kena, and still have an active 5-piece.

Well for set bonuses that give a flat bonus like regen or spell damage the you will lose that bonus if you swap weapons and lose a piece of the set. And as far as I know the lich set is the only set that gives an increase to recovery for a set time so not sure what set you could replace it with unless you just went for seducer 4pc and then keep the 4 pieces on at all time. This could be the most fun build ever but it will take a VERY long time to acquire and by that time you may want to run something else. Or new sets may be out that you are more interested in. Do you happen to know what fengrush was wearing in his Templar tank/healer build?

It wasn't Fengrush but his friend Tuggles (sp?) that was running the magicka Templar so I don't know what gear he was using, although I'm pretty sure it was Armor Master otherwise a light tank would just melt. Also, You could sub in lower vr Lich items and upgrade them over time since the bonus would still proc, just at a lower amount. The same applies for the other sets and jewelry could always be switched around with old or Orsinium sets. There are still quite a few options, I just need to make sure that the 5-piece buff remains after the weapon swap and then I can worry about piecing everything together and making the necessary substitutions.

@Hiero_Glyph you definitely keep the buff after switching. I procced ravager killed the npc and took a ring off and I kept the buff.

    1. I believe you will keep the Lich Bonus because I think that the 5-Piece bonus doesn't recheck your number of set bonuses after it has already activated.

    2. You will only have the resistances and health from Armor Master so long as you character has 5-pieces. If that includes your weapon and shield, then those items do have to be on your active bar.

I run a magika tank nb with sword and board and 3 armor pieces of armor master and when i switch to my resto bar i keep the resistances buffs, but lose the health buff.

The set works like this: when you activate an armor ability while you're wearing 5 pieces you'll get the resistence buffs for a period of time regardless of how many pieces you're wearing during the duration of the buff. The health bonus is only awarded when you slot an armor ability while wearing all 5 pieces.

I can only comment on AM, though. No idea about the lich set, but out should follow the same role as similar sets. Sounds like a nice idea though. SnB with 3 armor AM, resto and 4 lich, with 3 willpower or whatever. Good luck.

I am the tank/healer in Fengrush's group. My setup is 5pc Armor Master 5pc Lich. When Low in magicka I just swap weapons and I get the big regen buff. You also maintain the 5 piece short term buff from Armor Master while you swap weapons. Jewelry for the most part I stick with the willpower 3 pc except for the Molag Kena fight which I swap in Footmen 3 pc jewels. You can definitely do all content with this setup but I will stress you NEED another templar in group for those luminous shards. Without them stam is a HUGE issue. Any other questions feel free.

Lich v16 is REALLY hard and expensive to get so what we have done is just mix in lower level pieces to maintain the set bonuses. I have 3 pieces that are v16 the other pieces that I am wearing are lower level fill in pieces. The highest being v8 so even not at the Maximum amount of regen and resistances you can do all of the current content with this setup.

Hope this helps any other questions feel free. For my time as a templar I have just been the tank healer in the PvE's and strictly as a support for my PvP endeavors. If you are looking for Magicka DPS templar advice I am not really the guy for that I would shoot you over to @blabafat for that. I have received whispers from a bunch of you asking about DPS and I am sorry its not my thing.

    That's very lucky!

I've actually been collecting v16 pieces of this set for a build of my own (non-tank though). Only missing the shoulders, which I have at v10. If anyone has them at v16 please let me know :)

I got 3 pieces in my first 20 dolmens. In the next 100? Nothing. (Well, I got 3 Draughr's Heritage weapons but I don't want that crap.) I'm pretty sure there's something funny going on with that RNG generator. I kept statistics for it but I can't quite pinpoint what the hidden factor is.
