Namecalling.....1st of all im a paying customer and if i feel the need to criticize what i see as poor customer service then i have every right to do that. Secondly did i know what i was getting into? Evidently not. I mean i only subbed ff14 for a year and never had to deal with the problems that plauge this game even though ff14 has waaaaay more regular updates and content add-ons than this eso with an actual ui that is informative to boot. I mean i only subbed dcuo for 4 years from ps3 to ps4 and saw thim 1st hand shut down servers to fix bugs and not just ignore their customers pleas for fixes. So next time you want resort to namecalling look in the mirror because youre the only dimtwit in this conversation

Nice way to put it, and yes as a costumer you do have rights and are owed a certain level of communication from provider to costumer. this maintenance was poorly planed(from a outside point of view), poorly communicated, and poorly executed.
the game is running for more then a year, and hardware isnt just magickally dropped from the sky, somebody had to order it, and plan it, so ZENI knew longer then what they let know that this was gonna happen, so why the late tell is what iam wondering about. proper communication with players, beyond the stream, not everybody has time to watch the stream, and paperlog of the stream would be nice, if actually important information is put in there, but that is beside this point. in any other situation, 1 day before doing something, is to late on any job i can think of, sure there are exceptions, but this was poorly executed and communicated, which makes me suspicios that it was poorly planed, but that i cant judge because i didn't see the planning progress

I've worked with server farms and my husband works with server farms. You can't just shut things down, fix a drive and bring it back up. There is a crap load of planning that goes into when these things are brought down and how much you can fix at that time. Sadly there are times that you must take them offline for extended periods of time and just take the hit and fix as much as you can to keep things running smooth. Yeah I hate not being able to play but I get it. Things don't always go well when you take them down either so you have new issues as well as planned fixes to deal with. If it helps the stability of the servers and hopefully fixes things we have seen since the IC release, it will be worth the down time.

Gina had forgot to calculate in the time for loading screens which is why it went from 1200 PST to 1800 PST.

At least they got thier priorities right.

OK I know this is a bit of a late response, but, that person who said "go play Tera" needs to go #$%^#^#$^ a @#$%@#% in the !#!@#^@%^*^ !!!!!!! Haha, no but really that game has been, and still is, a heaping steaming pile of predigested ginkgo berries. As in, it already stunk out the door, and stinks even more now. Terrible on so many lvls that have nothing to do with gameplay or mechanics. For example, 25% of the users have rigs (yes amd/ati rigs) that can play Dying Light at close to 90+fps in 4k res, and full spec. But in Tera they get 20fps. "Bwahahahaha" and "WTF you talkin 'bout Willis" all at the same time. I do have to admit though that I did play that game for quite a while. But when I realized that the Atari title E.T. had less bugs, I kind of jumped ship and came here. ESO for life yo! OR rather, ESO for ESO's life yo!

OK so that all seems like I went waaaay off topic, but no. My point is this team is always making improvements to both code and infrastructure that have a noticeable effect/improvement on the game. Whereas games like Tera do nothing to fix or improve upon anything really. GW2 is just is bad by asking for the full price of their game again for an expansion. Really? Full effing price? And not even 49 bux worth of content! True FF is constantly fixing bugs , the game is gorgeous, and an overly repetitive snooze fest. I get most MMO's can be. But at least make it so the repetitive nature is masked by new areas to explore(cough eso) Eye candy isn't enough. Firefall is more fun than FF. and It's not that fun. BALANCE! Anywho...GJ ESO team for making such a gorgeous game that runs crazy smooth and is $#!} tons of fun. Ignore these cry babies with their inflated sense of entitlement.

Ever since GW1 they have implemented live updates also. Certain parts of fixes and patches live stream as you play. Only the needed stuff requires a log out and back in to update. Cuts down on much down time.

That said what this maintenance covered was backend fixes and needed the servers offline to fix.

I usually don't have to worry about these times because I am at work but even then ESO being down doesnt feel like the end of the world to me...
The End Of The World is when PSN goes down...then I have to like put in a blu ray or something...
