Here's My Current Magicka-Templar Build!

Hey everyone!

While sitting here waiting for the maintenance to get finished I thought that I could pass some time by sharing a magicka-based Templar build that's working very well for me at the moment. Note that I'm only v9 at the moment and since the server is down I have no way of getting a screenshot for you guys. With that being said, I can't visually show you my stats and skills and I don't have all the best gear, so this build is definitely not maxed out yet!

Without wasting anymore time, here's a breakdown of the build...

Race: Breton
Name: Garen Lestrade
Class Templar

Attributes: All magicka, nothing complicated.
Gear: 7 Light armor pieces at the moment. 5 piece Kagnaracs Hope, 2 piece Warlock, 2 piece Magnus and one random necklace.
Spell Damage: 1562 (buffed with Structured Entropy)
Spell Critical: 32 % (42 % with Inner Light)
Magicka Recovery: 1540

Max Magicka: 26k unbuffed.
Max Health: 13k unbuffed.
Max Stamina: 10k unbuffed.

Single Target Dps: 9-12k

Champion Points:

Nothing fancy, just dump all of your points into areas that increase your magicka recovery, reduce magicka costs, increase magic damage, increase overall survive-ability (reduced elemental, poison, physical and magic damage). You should also put some points into heals cast by you, so that you may be able to heal properly. Other than that, go nuts!

Bar 1: Two Handed Lord's Longswords

- Purifying Light: Stacks damage, heals afterwards, increases ultimate through Dawn's Wrath passive.
- Structured Entropy: Heals some, buffs spell damage, deals a little damage, passively increases max health.
- Puncturing Sweeps: Spam all the way, heals, deals high-end damage.
- Reflective Light: Flex spot though this one increases spell critical rating when cast, deals DOT and does an overall good job of increasing damage output.
- Inner Light: Increases max magicka, increases spell critical rating, win.

- Ultimate: Flex, leveling Meteor at the moment, otherwise Dawnbreaker or Empowering Sweep.

Bar 2: Resto Staff Whatever

This whole bar is kind of a flex bar depending on what kind of situation I'm in. For solo, self-heals, shields and buffs. For group, use Blazing Spears, Repentance and Purifying Ritual. That's how you get happy team mates :)

- Channeling Focus/Rune: Increases magicka recovery and resistance spots, kind of a flex spot depending on situation.
- Healing Ward: Damage shield, heals quite well.
- Structured Entropy: Mainly here for the increased health.
- Blazing Shield: Kind of a flex spot as well, can be replaced with spears in group play.
- Inner Light: Same as above.

- Ultimate: Anything really, Solar Disturbance or Prison can be a game-changer.

Rotation:

Activate Inner Light and follow this rotation:

Purifying Light (1-3 Targets) ---> Structured Entropy (1 Target Enough) ---> Reflective Light (Once) ---> Spam Puncturing Sweeps ---> Maybe An Ultimate ---> Rinse & Repeat

You never actually need to swap bars unless you need to buff up with shields, get back magicka (heavy attacks with resto and casting Channeling Focus), or do AOE damage with Blazing Shields.

A bar swap is necessary in harder boss fights, dungeons in Craglorn and in Imperial City, otherwise you can face-roll everything except for veteran group dungeons, VDSA and Trials.

Summary:

As you can see, this build requires some buff spells before the actual damage starts hitting the enemies but once the spam begins you will utterly destroy your enemies, especially if you have a low-cost ultimate like Dawnbreaker or Empowering Sweep. In harder fights you will need to swap bars in order to maximize damage and stay alive.

Like I said this Garen is only at v9 right now so it's still a work in progress and the spell damage is far from maximized, but this build will be efficient enough until the actual endgame content. By then I'll have an update on gear, skills and Champion points.

Thanks for reading, will update if I missed anything!

Why are you using a two handed sword? Or did you mean dual wield?

2H offers higher total damage currently (unless over ~3k spell damage) but Orsinium will make DW equal again.
