Tech. suggestion: Grass Billboarding And Draw Distance

Bracteamentum
Billboarding Grass:
I would suggest, that the vertical billboarding (when looking up or down) of grass should be removed. It does not look nice at all if the grass moves in every direction as soon as you move your camera.
When you run up or down a hill it just vanishes or it has a strange angle from the ground. At higher settings you see a lot of shadows moving around, which makes the whole scene look weird.
Horizontal billboarding is not as irritating as its vertical counterpart and totally fine to display the great looks of grass in my opinion without compromising too much performance. (Actually, it has no impact at all on FPS with my mid-ranged graphic card.)

Draw Distance
Even though the grass blends in smoothly, the draw distance is too low and more open landscpae looks very naked just after a few meters. It looks like the rendering of the ground is going in a very low rendering mode after a certain point.
Certainly, the above suggestions are using max settings. ;)

I'd prefer NO billboarding of grass. but I 100% agree that the vertical billboarding of grass it terrible. The only place I don't mind this method is billowing effects (smoke, fire) and leaves. I would like for the draw distance to just be extended in every way, shape, and form. Let us decide how much we can handle!

What is most annoying is when looking up while aiming your bow the camera puts the grass behind you in front of you blocking your view.

Same with trees behind you on siege.

No billboarding of grass would need the the requirement, that all grass have a Texture on the X and Y axis. It would look like a cross when viewed from the top and might need more changes in the game engine than just turning off the vertical billboarding.
I did not like the billboarding leaves in TES: Oblivion. From afar it did make the scenery look great, but as soon you were moving the camera around while you are standing in a forest it was kind of creepy but understandable due to technical limitations.
In general the game engine in TESO is great and I really like the well done lightning effects.

I like that the camera is not jumping back and forth when a tree or bush is between you and the camera but I agree that it could fade out for moment it is in the line of sight of your camera and your character.

yea @Bracteamentum, I know it would require a lot of work. There are many design decisions that are questionable that will actually cause ZOS a TON more work to "fix" than if they had just designed it that way from the get to. Like sittable furniture.

Therefore I suggest to turn off vertical billboarding which should not be a big deal than recreating grass and its behaviour.
