It shouldn't go unnoticed how effectively Zenimax dealt with the zombie gold farmer onslaught of 2014. I don't know how they did it, but the streams of bots pouring from wayshrines ceased! Thank you!

    Ergh, I give up.

Normal for online games, not just this one. ZOS has done a pretty good job of getting rid of the farmbots and spammers.
At the original launch, you couldn't get a word in edgewise between gold selling spammers in zone. Everyone's Ignore list was filled with them...literally.

Bot trains were a common sight, mostly Templars spamming jabs lol. You couldn't get near a delve boss for the farmers killing it as soon as it spawned for gold and items to sell.
You still see a bot occasionally but it's more rare now.

BTW, you can also buy gold on EBay lol

Funny you mention bot trains being templars spamming biting jabs.... I ran in to one last night in Eastmarch. The we're running a circuit killing wolves.

You can wait for half a year to upgrade your mount, or you can fully upgrade it in less then 5 minutes for Crowns.

You can grind to v16 for more than 150hrs, or you can do it 1.5 times faster with Crown Scrolls.

You can create different characters in different alliances, or you can buy an ability to roll any race in any Alliance.

And what exactly are you unhappy about fella?

The game makes it pretty easy to get the items you need without needing to buy gold.. except for this last patch with the 150 material crafts, not a smart move imo.. Even so I don't think its too prevalent in this game.

I remember my brother was at a very high level in Everquest, and someone offered him allot of money for his account. The guy who offered the money was a stock broker and did not have the time to invest in the game to get to high levels.

My question is ( ok kill me now for asking ).

Why is this such a no no in gaming?

Thanks for the replies guys. The sarcastic ones are a bit ordinary though, not everyone is a hardcore gamer with infinite knowledge of such things so there's no need to make someone look dense just because they're asking a question that others have known the answers to for years. I did a forum search first, nothing on first few pages so I posted.

Thanks to everyone else though, i am now fully informed :)

I farm mobs with jabs. I run in the same pattern and timing, sometimes for hours (while "working" from home). I am not a bot. Just saying, what you saw doesn't necessarily mean bots..

And omg it was awful! Using zone chat was pretty much impossible thanks to the spam bots flooding the channel with advertisements. Then there were bots camping the delve bosses making it near impossible land a hit and get credit for clearing the blasted thing. Let's also not forget the farming bots fly through the sky or under the ground warping to harvest nodes and the massive bot trains running amuck across map zones. It was so bad that pretty much as soon as one was booted another was instantly there to take it's place.

So, I wonder myself if these gold sellers even have any customers for this game.

Temper, Kuta, Willpower Ring, Agility Ring, Shield Breaker, Black Rose, potions, etc, etc all go for good gold.

ESO doesn't have large enough population for gold farmers and sellers to stay. They were around early release but left about 4 months after launch.

They were traveling in single-file and occupying the same space, consistently. I played through the bot invasion after launch so am familiar with them. Bots are still in the game, I saw some a few months ago too.

Just use PayPal lol. If anything happens via PayPal, paypal will take responsibility. In fact I have a dedicated PayPal account which isn't linked to my credit card lol. Top up account with debit as and when I need it. Works with things like battle.net via mol points etc. don't ever use credit card on shady sites lol. PayPal or no deal.

Most ESO gold sellers on Ebay are for the consoles. Not many for PC. It's probably tempting for many new players to get a nice bank balance this way.

I'd be cautious on that. While I deeply believe they improved their bot-detection routines (apart from manual reports), I remember myself being suspected of gold-selling/bot activity shortly after launch as I farmed gold massively (had 250k around 40-45th level and lots of materials). While all the farming was 100% legitimate (kill mobs, sell trash, farm materials, refine materials, sell wax/rosin/alloy in guild stores etc.), this was the result. So, be double cautious when dancing with real bots.

For all those wondering what to spend your gold on, try to get your vr16 character maxed out on gear. I like to hang onto my gold but I finally decided to try to join a more elite pvp group that requires you to have all legendary vr16 gear and have a certain amount of dps. 3 piece agility jewelry and 4 pieces of legendary armor made and I'm down about 400k. The grind for mats requires multiple hours of risky farming in I.C. and/or hirelings to get one mat per day.

I decided to use the guild stores for most of the mats, as I wanted my armor made before Christmas. The draw to go the easy route and buy gold from outside websites is tempting but I like this game to much to risk getting banned for that.

Yes that was horrible, reported hundreds of bots and spammers daily ... and ZOS solution was to punish everyone making bosses not drop loot for half an hour or so, it made me quit the game.
Got back into it halfway 1.6, at least world bosses and delve bosses dont share same timer anymore and is only 10 minutes, i can live with that.

And all that because idiots feel the need to buy fake gold ...

The fact that there isn't much offer and spamage from gold sellers anymore says quite a lot about the health of game. I would have loved If the game was popular enough for gold sellers to think it was a profitable business.
