Websites selling in-game gold - Really?

I just saw one, is this really a thing? I must be a little too sheltered... Do people make money off this game and get away with it?

It's enough to nearly sign off permanently, all those hours I spend doing the right thing and some half cashed up fool can go get a fat cash injection with a few hundred bucks?

Ergh, I give up.
Looking for a good NA PS4 guild that offers a bit of everything? New to the game and lost? Need some guidance and help?

At this point it's kind of a trope of MMOs. The stereotype is Asian MMO gold farming companies. Here's an article about it from back in 2007

What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.

I believe that this kind of business is bannable, in every game I have played so far.

I did offer some nice cookies to my bf in exchange for a motif, he is still contemplating, I will admit that. :cookie:

There's nothing to buy though, since everything decent is bind on pickup.

A lot of MMO's have that problem, some deal with it better than others. ESO seems to be particularly good at handling it compared to some, from what I understand anyway.

Gold farmers been around for ages, MMO's are slowly figuring ways to defeat them, however as in anything computer each advance has its counter then so forth. Would not worry vastly till game goes F2P.

I know a site that has been doing this for way over a year, at one point I bookmarked it just in case I need some gold, but gold is not an issue for me in the game, it's finding decent stuff to spend it on.

I would highly advise never to even go to the websites for these companies.

While there are some legitimate companies out there that turn a profit selling game currencies, there are also a lot of very shady companies out there too, these companies have been known to overcharge credit cards or use their customers credit card details to buy copies of games to use for farming, or even sell your credit card details on to nefarious groups.

Some of these companies may also use power levelling services to gain access to your account, steal from them and use them as spam bots advertising their products.

Never trust a gold selling company ever.

That moment when you go to Auridon/Glenumbra/Stonefalls, and see people spamming their guild to recruit. :worried:

You must be new. Gold sellers have been around for as long as MMOs. Most come from sweat shops that pay little to nothing and force them to work seriously long hours. Some will go at great lengths to steal your account info to gain access to your character

Download Neverwinter, and look at the game chat for 5 seconds. You'll be amazed at how many of these sites exist. This is why people don't want text chat as bad as they think they do.

This is an unfortunate reality for every MMO, however, I can't remember the last time I saw someone trying to sell gold in ESO. This was a large problem at launch, but ZoS has effectively made this a very rare occurence.

I have to admit, I have noticed such tactics far less in ESO (which is to say, I have yet to ever see a gold spammer), than in games like Neverwinter where zone chat is absolutely saturated with the spam.

I had actually forgotten all about the gold spamming thing during my time here in ESO. It's a refreshing change.

    Thanks, Zenimax. :)

Isn't this where the, "If you transfer more than xx in gold your account gets an instant ban", came from? Haven't read about this happening in a while, but have read of it happening way back when, that large gold transfers between accounts would result in an instant ban. Also, gold seller other option was for you to meet their character in-game and then they trade you any random item for a large amount of gold (that you purchased)... obviously this would also get you a ban because it's easy to see what is going on; large gold transfers is a HUGE red flag, and will result in an account ban, as it should.

This is one of those problems that you don't have to worry about. Gold in this game is easy to get, even at low levels, especially with the Legerdemain system we have now. There are only 3 things to spend Gold on in the game, Bag Space, Repairs and Horse Training. Anything one might want to spend Gold on is available in the Crown Store, including the above mentions. All the rest are Bound drops from Mobs/Quests so those are tradeable for Gold anyway.

So, I wonder myself if these gold sellers even have any customers for this game.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Normal for online games, not just this one. ZOS has done a pretty good job of getting rid of the farmbots and spammers.
At the original launch, you couldn't get a word in edgewise between gold selling spammers in zone. Everyone's Ignore list was filled with them...literally.

Bot trains were a common sight, mostly Templars spamming jabs lol. You couldn't get near a delve boss for the farmers killing it as soon as it spawned for gold and items to sell.
You still see a bot occasionally but it's more rare now.

BTW, you can also buy gold on EBay lol
