Magicka DK HOT?

I've recently gotten my PvE fire mage DK to V1, and I'm really missing a stable heal for him. GDB is good, but as a Vamp my health regen doesn't do anything anyway it just doesn't heal me fast enough or often enough. I'm having to spam it when being attacked at range due to my waeker build, despite my Sorc having no trouble at all with half the health and only 1 shield.

Are there any other heals available to a magicka DK character without having to slot a resto-staff? I love my build, but he is seriously dependent on a healer at the moment, which takes away the point of making him for Maelstrom in the first place. As the title says, a HOT ability or on attack (e.g. Sorc's Surge, Briarhearts, Degeneration etc) would be perfect, but I'm at a loss for where to get it.

    Using mages guild Mage light ability morphed is better dps than sea of flames due to 5% more magicka being pretty much 3-4% more dps depending on set up, unless you are using skoria, then I'm not sure.

    You don't have any earthen heart abilities these increase survivability and sustain by giving ultimate on use


    on your aoe bar I'd slot eruption in place of burning embers, or put it on bar 1 if you prefer and use it when you use entropy,

    I'd also suggest swapping ultimates on the bars, entropy giving mages guild empowering through passives would mean you want to use it before you drop your meteor, and fits better on range bar, and standard giving damage reduction goes better on the aoe bar when you are up close to mobs and taking damage.

    I'd question a few more of those skills but that comes down to personal preference, no doubt you will tweak it as you go good luck, and how is draw essence working for you?

    have you tried popping igneous shield before your GDB...

    I slot vigour on my Dk however with the limited stampool on my fire magicka DK i can only use it a few times...

    Other than that i put CP into making potions more effective and healing more effective...

    option one with igneous shields does increase healing by 30%..

    GDB with Igneous Shield is as strong as always in PvE, healing you for ~42% of missing health.

    Other options: Deep Breath - potentially very strong heal from mobs surrounding you with nice damage after 2.5 seconds; also Burning Embers as a DoT that heals you for 33% of the damage done when it expires (good for high health enemies).

    I'd recommend putting a few points into CP that increase healing done and recieved as well.

    And for "being attacked at range", use your wings ;)

    You can use Degeneration (mages guild) or Energy orb (undaunted)

    Degeneration sound like the way to go though because it also gives you 2% max magicka and regen as well as empower on cast.


    If your wanting to be adventurous you can also give Consuming Trap (Soul Trap Morph) a go for 10% restore to all stats. Though the idea is just a relic from a soul trap build I theory crafted a month or 2 ago and I don't actually recommend it for endgame as it is. It may not seem like much but at 40k magicka that's a 4k restore, and last I checked it works on bugs and squishy stuff!

    If you hit every mob with burning embers on rotation it will act like a hot as one ticks off and heals you and then another ticks off and heals you. Draw essence is also nice for healing when facing multiple mobs and if you keep reflect up you won't have to worry about those ranged mobs...with the exception of any elemental walls they might hit you with.

    If you add igneous shield to that the heals will be even stronger.

    For groups of mobs, has to be draw essence all the way, it will change your life as a magicka dk, and you wont be able to play without it.. The scaling of that heal is pretty static so its always pretty good when facing 2+ enemies. also good even with battle spirit in IC even though it sounds like it should be crap it isnt.

    If really desperate the draconic passive burning heat is a 12% healing recieved with draconic ability active. so pop draw essence, and before it explodes pop it again. when combo with lava whip healing vs single target you cant go wrong.

    draw essence, lava whip, talons, spell reflect, free slot/engulfing flames. Is my 1H+S mob grind. and it changes very little for PVP
    I have eruption on off bar, drop it to begin,, engulfing flames to debuff, draw essence for healing, talons for more dot and holding enemies in my eruption and draw essence explosion. draw essence also gives magicka back whilst on sword and shield. reflect for casters so you can ignore them. double lava whip the talons/rooted enemy to set them off balance then proc the healing. Can go all day vs any enemy with hat set up. and clear group delves solo with it too.

    i still use resto staff on off bar for regening magicka more than anything, i pop regeneration and igneous shield before a fight sometimes, but mostly for spell reflect and heavy attacking the range attackers for magicka regen when grinding

    So from the consensus it seems that having Igneous Shields + Inhale morphs is good with GDB. I've based my main build off Deltia's outdated "Laceration" PvE build, and just changing things to make it a bit more survivable.

    Here's my current build with Draw Essence added:
    Bar 1: Fire Destro staff
    -Sea of Flames
    -Elemental Drain
    -Force Pulse
    -Structured Entropy
    -Green Dragon Blood
    -U: Standard of Might

    Bar 2: Fire Destro staff (was S&B but wanted Elemental Ring on this bar with Inhale)
    -Sea of Flames
    -Engulfing Flames
    -Burning Embers
    -Elemental Ring
    -Draw Essence
    -U: Shooting Star/Corrosive Armor

    I'm focusing a bit more on survival as it's a solo build, and I can already get DPS comparable to my Sorc.

    Edit: Ah, I didn't realize links are blocked...

    Edit of edit: I'm thinking of putting Skoria on this build when i get it, but with the new long cooldown time and reduced damage it may not be worth it anymore. I'm reluctant to put Nerien'eth on this build because of all the damage coming from DOT's.

    I haven't had a chance to try out Draw Essence yet as I live in Australia and the servers have been down at both the times I would be playing :/ I expect it be be a lot better for me to help survive, but I've been so focused on single target damage like a Sorc that I really haven't touched even Elemental Ring. It has made me have to give up Invasion though, which means I'm without a gap closer again (never liked Chains).

    So far as Earthen Heart goes, I was trying to fit in Eruption but as I haven't gotten used to it it's currently a wasted slot for me. I'm also using Corrosive Armor instead of Meteor currently just because of my survivability issues, which is giving me a little of the benefits.

    I also have the Ultimates swapped because if I'm in an "oh ****" situation then I like to have Standard of Might for taking down the enemies really easily, and restoring my health with Battle Roar. But maybe Draw Essence will help me enough to warrant swapping bars in those situations.
