It was horrible since it exists. Maybe it used to be good, because players used to be really bad.

I don't see a use for the Atronach. In pvp, it is easy to counter. It can't move, is ccable and the damage is really not that great anyway.
In pve, there are better ultimates for dps. If the Atronach would be on par with the cost of Soul Assault and Shieldbreaker, I would consider it somewhat usefull. But 170 ultimate for this ? No thanks.

The taunt has been removed with update 1.6

Additionally the chang for the atro to ONLY ever attack its clostest target makes it practically useless in every fight with more than oneenemi, since it is impossible to focus anyone with it properly.

Storm Atronach was nice when we were new to the game, didn't know what we were doing, and the questing stuff/mobs were more difficult. I'd actually say during my beta experience it was a reasonably effective ultimate.

It's pretty meh now and my PvP raid leader would have a conniption if I ever actually used this.

At least you can still command it to attack particular targets.. which doesn't help much when you are trying to have your other pets not run off and get themselves killed since the atro will still be passive if you told your other pets to do so.

It is a strong ultimate, but not in every fight.

Take sanctum ophidia for example. If your atronarch gets hit by the poison mines from the mantikora it gets stunned, and then it stops doing anything for a while. The same principle goes for the serpent hard mode. You can place it somewhere, but he won't be up long because the serpent will throw his big meteor that will oneshot it.

In AA hard mode, you can't really place it either because it passes along chain lightning to your teammates and will kill them like this if you place it too close to the boss, and if you place it too far then it will start targetting nonsense. You're supposed to be able to re-target your atronarch's current target with y+left click, but that doesn't seem to work for me anymore ever since they introduced the "Your pets will now attack the nearest target" thing.

All in all it has a lot of downsides when you look at it like this. But if you have a fight where there's no special gimmick, it will come second to overload in DPS.

for pure single target bosses i love my atro. it has to be paired with daedric prey though. i looked up @dymence build and i run a similar set up. props to dymence. you tested some sets i have yet to acquire. so that saves me some time in testing. cant seem to get any magic sets to drop for me from vWGT or vICP. I always get stam gear. with 40+ vWGT completes i have yet to get a molag kena helm. Back to the topic, the atro when applicable (i'd say 70% of time it is) does great dps.
