Returning to playing a Magicka Sorc after a few months away playing a Stamina Sorc, and just wondering- with the recent changes to Mundus- is there any advantage to going with Thief for Spell Crit versus Apprentice for Spell Damage?
I myself always use the Mage due to Roleplay reasons mainly.
Thanks @Dracane and forgot to mention that I was seeking answers for PvE DPS. I want a Magicka build that does not require Magelight for Criticals, as I plan to utilize Power Surge for damage buff along with solo healing, but don't have enough slots since I also use Clannfear pet on a primary loadout.

Then you must use spell crit potions. 10% spell crit from magelight or this potion is too much to ignore it in my opinion.
Why would you use the clannfear on a dps build ? At least use the twilight, even though you're better off with 2 damage abilities instead of this pet.

I use Clannfear to draw aggro so I can sit out of the fray and range everything to death. Also, I never said "group PvE", I ONLY solo PvE. I've found the Clannfear to be extremely good at keep enemies off of me, and the Twilight I have found to be worthless IMO, as she tends to stay with me at range- which doesn't help take heat off of me.
In previous Sorc builds, I've run both Magelight and Clannfear while leveling, but eventually dropped Magelight to add Power Surge and Hardened Ward and I never noticed any difference in combat without Magelight.

@Ezareth I was born on April 11th.
When I was creating my roleplay character, I wanted her to be born in the month, where the Mage sign reigns. As I wanted her to be a gifted mage.
I found out, that the Mage reigns in the month called 'Rainhand' Rainhand is the Tamrielic month for AprilSo I just decided, that my character was born on Rainhand 11th.
I choose the mage sign, because it's my character's birth sign and I love Magicka, because Magicka=Magnus and Magnus=A great god and he represents the holy light of Aetherius

Excuse me.
Then just use whatever you wantFor solo pve, for example soloing craglorn dungeons, survival and sustain is more important. You don't need to max out your damage there. For professional DPS, Magelight or at least a spell crit potion is essential. But not for your purpose.

I don't use spell crit pots or magelight for PvE, but then again maybe I'm doing it wrong there.
