A different take on racial passives and race change.

This idea is very controversial to the lore.

Have you ever wanted to have a critical chance racial passive? I know i have.

Do you have a strong distaste playing a khajiit race? I know i do.

I would like the ability to obtain any racial passives on any type of character. People may say this is how each race gains individuality but hear me out. What if i was raised by khajiits and mastered their way of combat. Would it be to crazy to have inherited their racial passives this way? Would it be crazy to go through some type of long story quest for each individual race to replace your racial passives with a different races way of combat?

Are these passives coming from there bloodline and not training?

I personally know many characters who would love to play a khajiit or Argonian but might not because of there passives.

Bring forth the discussion!

(This would be either a crown store option or quest to obtain another races passives.)

Yes because people could play what they wanted without competitive passive restrictions.

No. You can just race change once it comes out.

What's the point of having different races if they all have the same skills?

So you can build for whatever play-style you want and not be restricted by race. You can also play and look like whichever race you want and not have your play-style restricted.

Its just a simple concept to see how people feel about racial passives.

I love the Elder Scrolls series because of the different races having their own benefits. In Skyrim and Oblivion I would love picking Breton for the head-start on Conjuration, the magic resist and the daily power of a very powerful damage shield. If I wanted to be a stealth character then I would pick a Wood Elf or Khajiit depending on if I wanted a bow or daggers respectively.

It seems your problem is with one of the core parts of what makes the Elder Scrolls races awesome, and/or perhaps touching on the point in another thread on here that talks about the ability to play any race in any alliance. It all comes down to the fact that if you want to role-play as a certain character for the sake of visuals, you're not worrying about the passives as much and will most likely still build your Khajiit Sorc because that's what appeals to you.

(Note: I'm not trying to be condescending, so please don't take it that way; I'm just a fan of this way of playing.)
I have departed into the great unknown that is outside the game and the forums, and wish you well in your Tamriel adventures!

I honestly could care less what passives other races have, considering I always play as a Dunmer just for the sake of roleplay. I wouldn't want racial passives changed like that, though. I like having traits that make me a bit better or worse at something.

Keep in mind that "races" in Tamriel aren't like "races" of humans. They're more akin to dog breeds and different subspecies. Take the elves, for example. Altmer are pure hardcore magey by blood. They have innate skill in magic. Dunmer are almost always ambidextrous and aren't as magically inclined as Altmer. Bosmer are small and fast, especially compared to their Orsimer cousins that are large and very physically talented by blood.

You wouldn't complain that a bloodhound isn't fast or that a greyhound doesn't have a stronger sense of smell.

Think about humans, now. Bretons are of mixed Aldmeri and Nedic stock. Nords hail from Altmora. Cyrods are descended from Nordic stock. Redguards are from Yokuda. With the exception of Nords and Cyrods, none of the human races are actually related at all. They might as well be different species as removed from each other as they are from elves.

And then we have Argonians and Khajiit. Now, the Khajiit have a creation myth of them being transformed from Aldmeri stock in the same vein as the Orsimer were, but wether that's true or not is unknown. Argonians are definitely completely unrelated to everyone else. They're friggin reptile-fish-bird-people. Why on Nirn would they have the same racial traits as a Nord or vice-versa?

NO NO NO - every mage will be running around with 3 x increase total magic passives. The reason there are s***ty passives is to balance out the good passive your race has been thrown....

Those abilities are bloodline. You don't see many small asians on the NBA teams right? Of course you don't! Height is a major factor in some sports and the only way you can be tall is by genetics (let's discard any treatments).

I'm a Breton and my character was a mage at some point. For me it's totally acceptable for a High Elf to be much more powerful than me, because...lore.

That said, those talents cannot be "acquired" through training. You either born tall or you don't.

The only scenario I see here is mixed races, like a Redguard mother with a Breton father, you could min/max all the passives. On the other hand, the lore says the offpring will be the race of the mother, thus there is no real mixed race.

All the implementations of this idea both in the lore and game mechanics will be too complex or far fetched. For me the case is closed. No.
