Am i a bad player for liking the console version?

An honest question looking around these forums :(

I bought the pc version of eso about a year ago. I tend to dabble in a lot of MMO's so i enjoyed it for awhile, got a few characters to the mid 20s and 30s and generally enjoyed myself (but never really got to endgame). I was a skyrim junkie for quite awhile so i started downloading mods left and right. I tricked out my UI fairly heavily.

But that... hurt the game for me, honestly. Once i had my UI setup and played for awhile, it felt like MMO #47 and not an elder scrolls game to me. I drifted away from the game and only came back now and then to mess around.

A few weeks ago, on a lark, i bought the ps4 version.

I'm currently LOVING it.

I know, looking around, that the consoles seem to get some serious hate. Not real ESO players. How can one play without chat support? How can one play without mods? Second class citizens, etc. etc. etc.

But personally? I love the interface (believe it or not) and the way the game plays with a controller just FEELS right. I've already gotten used to emote quick commands and have pretty much been playing the game like a single player RPG with group support (random help in the wild, etc.). I'm approaching trading and guild management as a forum thing (hence why i started looking around on here and a few other places). I'm approaching grouping like I do on destiny (looking for trackers and lfg sites and firing up my headset). And so far, its working, for me at least.

So... am i REALLY missing out that hard? Once i got (re)used to playing without my addon suite i'm beginning to prefer it (it feels more like oblivion and skyrim). Chat support is the most jarring but i'm learning to work around it. I'm just happily clearing quest hubs and dungeons. And this place is making me feel like i should fire back up my pc version and never touch the red-headed step child of the console version (even if i'm currently enjoying it more).

Do any regulars focus primarily on consoles?

Just curious... just trying to get past some of the negativity :(

cheers all.

As someone who plays both Skyrim and Oblivion both heavily modded on the PC and vanilla on the PS, I can say that, honestly, other than text, I don't really miss my PC version of ESO all that much. Of course it may have to do with my playstyle.

Just enjoy it! That's the main thing. And, quit it! You're not a bad person for liking console. Variety is the spice of life (I thought it was paprika, but, hey, live and learn).

It is true PC players believe themselves superior but people tend to find any and every reason to feed their superiority complex regardless. Honestly though if you wanted to play without add-ons why not just get rid of them? lol

Anyway I prefer to play a game like this on console for many reasons, and I sure as hell don't need add-ons to play the game. People just either get too lazy or want to nitpick at the game from every angle to get as big an edge in combat as possible. Personally, I just play my way and make it work regardless B)

Short answer in the form of a question: Why should you feel bad for preferring to play on console?

I come from years of playing many, many MMO's. I've played MMO's since they first emerged in their own genre (Asheron's Call anyone?).

So obviously, I'm a PC Gamer at my very core.

But I play ESO exclusively on my Xbox One. I played ESO through the PC Beta's, and through the year (off and on) as it changed and got fixed. But once I tried the console version, I fell in love with this game again. The controls feel more natural to me on a console controller, and the overall experience is better to me.

So, I play RIFT and GW2 on my PC, and ESO on my console.

So no, OP; you're not weird/strange/wrong for enjoying and preferring ESO on your console. :)

Actually I couldn't care less about it personally. Voice Chat has its ups and downs but is overall superior in my opinion... when it works properly :|

Each to their own. I hate Vanilla ESO, its outright unplayable for me, i want and like things that make life easier, allows me to see actual numbers and tweak my chars to perfection, it's who I am and what I like. I play in the competitive sector so not having any of these is not an option for me. Not having addons and doing pvp is like crossing a motorway blindfolded, it just isn't happening. I do like immersion and minimalistic UI as a concept, it's why i play "Hardcore" FPS game modes for those who are familiar with FPS genre, but in a MMO if that means purposely gimping myself, then no - immersion can just keep on walking...

    lol, ty all :)

i'm honestly a 50/50 gamer. I built a rather nice gaming pc that can max settings on pretty much any game i throw at it. I play WoW, diablo 3, occasionally ff14, wildstar, rift, gw2, etc. (not to mention my steam collection lol).

I also have my playstation 3 and 4 and my xbox 360 (haven't got a xbone yet). I play Destiny like crazy and love games like saints row 4, witcher 3, dragon age inquisition, etc. on my consoles.

ESO just feels... RIGHT... to me with a controller in hand. And the skyrim type interface makes me happy.

I just got slapped by a lot of the posts around here as soon as i loaded up the forums commenting on "pc vs. console" and the console guys getting shouted down left and right lol.

cheers guys. back to Tamriel for me :)

I love playing console (ps4) with one big exception that is (you guessed it) text chat. All of the other inconsistencies are minor enough to not be a big deal for me.

The graphics and sound are amazing on my 60 inch. The controls are fluid. The buttons are mapped just about perfectly ( with the exception of weapon swap)

9/10 with text chat. 6/10 without.

I am glad the genre is picking up steam on different platforms, and hope that one day we could see cross-platform play across the board. I was a console gamer my entire childhood, having very little knowledge of pc's. Financially, at the time, they seemed out of the question as well to my family. In my adulthood, I've switched over to the pc side of things almost exclusively. I do own a console, but lately it's only being used as a netflix/hulu/dvd machine.

It's completely fine if you enjoy the console experience, consoles just get a lot of criticism because there are many players whose experience is diminished by the things the console version lacks. You aren't a bad person for having your needs met.

What??? Where are you getting the misconception that having text chat means you have to play using a keyboard & mouse?
I honestly love ESO. Even with the bugs and balancing issues, I think it's the greatest mmo made yet. There are a couple of other complaints I have with the game but we won't get into that here. Text chat doesn't mean you have to lay down your controller and start playing with a KB&M. Hell if you don't want anything to do with it, turn it off and keep playing as you are, but for a lot of us long time mmo players, text chat is a key component of any mmo, no matter what platform it's being played on.

Now to the OP. Whatever is most comfortable and fun for you. Who cares what anyone else says.

I can't really make a solid opinion on this because I've only played it on console, but after watching many different videos and streams of ESO on PC, it looks awesome and I'm jealous that they can name their characters and it'll show above their character's heads, yet on console we're stuck with our unchangeable gamertags/PSN names :\ (Idk if you can change it on Xbox one or not...)

The controller gets on my nerves a lot of the times, especially in pvp when it's laggy... but other than that, I will stick with console since I fancied a change after playing games like Runescape and WoW for over 10 years combined, off & on etc

Glad you're enjoying it btw! Console is getting more UI improvements like Scrolling Battle Text (which has been confirmed) and maybe text chat in the future, but who knows, and even if they do, I'm sure there will be an option to hide them if you're not wanting to see those kind of UI features. :sunglasses:

Even though I would prefer console to have more combat information, and a less minimalist UI. You are not bad player, and you're clearly not hurting anyone will your personal tastes. So you don't need to justify it to anyone, much need anyone to validate your opinion.

The rifts in the community are not either side's fault, it's ZOS'. They marketed ESO as an MMO but went light on the default MMO UI elements.

I much prefer console and I've been playing since PC Beta. I personally do not like add ons at all and was mediocre at best on PC. I'm also much better with a controller than a keyboard. Console was a natural transition for me and I'm significantly better now that I'm playing on Xbox.

I'm also one of those guys who would play Tiger Woods without the green grids so maybe I'm just weird. Haha.

As you can see here you are not alone in your opinion. I am also one of those people who beta'ed and played off and on. Honestly, given the active skill line limitations the game just works better on console in my opinion. The only two things that I miss, and I really do miss them, are add-ons and text chat. Most of the time I would rather not hear other players chatter, but I still want people to be able to reach me. Leaving and joining chat channels is annoying. Equally as annoying is having to look up waypoints, skyshards, and buy/sell prices.
