Advice needed for sorc race passives

Powerpeach
Hi All,

I have a Sorc ALT I got to VET Lvl 13 and really don’t like the playstyle and want to change it into a stamina sorc,

He is a Breton and obviously the racial passive are wasted on this character.

I want to know if it’s still worth doing? or will the racial passive's be damaging to my build ?

Eventually I would want to run VET WGT and do PVP, so will the dps loss be too much for choosing this class ?

Thanks in advance

I don't think the racial passives are wasted. Granted, there are "better" racial passives for stamina builds, but the extra magicka and spell cost reduction would be a boon if you need/want to use or weave abilities that use magicka (like Surge, Mage's Fury, or Grand Healing). Extra Spell Resistance isn't bad either. If you're worried about running out of stamina, you can redistribute your attribute points or change glyphs, etc.

I wouldn't if I were you, you'll always regret choosing the wrong race later on, and the longer you play that character, the more attractive it'll be to just start over with a different race. So keep the sorc and start leveling another character on the side.
You can make him a crafter in the meanwhile.
By the way, I would wager that the reason why you don't like the play style is because you are using a build that doesn't work for you, so look into fixing that.

TBH.... if it were me I'd start again.

And it's not just down to the passives.

Granted the passives are huge. From zero useful passives, to an extra 10% stam & regen if you were a redguard for example... that's a lot.

Given all the reductions in XP required to gain levels, XP boosters etc it's worth it.

AND.... magicka & stam sorcs are totally different. If you just rebuild the existing character then you'll have no idea how to play it. The levelling process will help you learn the strengths and weaknesses far better.

I recently started a stam sorc for just that reason.

My main is a Dunmer magicka build... just started redguard stam sorc. And having a blast levelling & learning it! It's great fun!

If I were in your shoes I would get to veteran 16, just so you have one top end character. The distance from v13-16 isn't that far, and it will open up some moneymaking options for you at the very least. I'm not you though, so you have to decide for yourself if the effort is worth it. I would say though that once you hit v16, make a Redgard, Orc, Bosmer or Imperial Sorc to go stamina build. In fact, while you're just grinding up you could ply your hand at the Stamina build on a non-stamina race with little ill effects, other than the cost it takes to convert the character there and back again. This would give you the opportunity to get the feel for a stamina build, complete the character's levels, and open it up so you can still use that character for farming purposes if you so desire. Either way you win using my method, because if you're comfortable with the v16 Breton Sorc as a Storc you'll be fine, and if not you can always switch it back and make a brand new Storc with a race you prefer. Either way you'll be standing on more champion points, more experience, and a capacity to increase your earnings that you would not have had otherwise.

I think it all depends on what you want to do and how you want to play. I'm one of those players who can't stand playing a character that I don't like the appearance of... which leaves a LOT of races out because they're just too fugly to look at for hours a day. It would be one thing if the game was played in first person, but it's not, and every time I open my character menu or even with the camera facing the back of the character, it is easy to be reminded of how horrible your character looks. :p

I always laugh at some players advice on this topic... because you have those who are like, "these racial passives are huge" but then turn around and argue that 10% Mag/Stam regen for Vampire passive isn't that big of a deal. Yet, they will argue left and right that regen passives for their specific character's racial is HUGE. Pretty much any so-called 'wasted' racial passives can be compensated with crafted armor, jewelry, food buff, mundus, etc. Maybe not completely, and obviously not for a min/maxer, but they don't play the game for immersion or Role-playing anyway.

At the moment I'm respec'ing my Bosmer Stamina Sorc to a regular Magicka Sorc just because. I only do solo PvE so I'm not worried about min/maxing or competing... but I like the idea of having a super short elf with antlers as a staff-wielding Sorcerer.

Related to this, I recall people saying how much more powerful an Altmer Magicka Sorc is compared to a Breton because of the racial passives; well, I've played both and noticed absolutely no difference between the two; I crushed every PvE enemy with both. However, I consider getting through content without dying the primary factor in deciding whether or not my build is successful not the numbers I see flying up on the screen while doing it. B)

I only run the numbers addons when I feel like analyzing my build. Generally speaking I don't enjoy seeing the spam going across my screen though. I actually prefer a more skyrim-like combat experience most of the time.

    Thanks for all the advice,

I decided to respec last night and im having a blast its way more my playstyle.

This is my second character i have a v16 Templar healer, and i just didnt think my Girl -friend would have stuck around if i made another :)

I know its going to wind me up like crazy when im vr16 that i don't have very good racial passives but im going to try and compensate slightly by using werewolf on my back bar for slightly more stam regen and hope that ZOS brings in crown store purchase to change race ...... Wishful thinking i know :)

I'm not a good player by any means, and I can "compete" with my Argonian, so...

    Anything's possible.

Agreed. As I mentioned, racial passives are not the 'end all, be all' that min/maxers make them out to be. Sure they may add a touch more damage or survivability, but nothing that can't be compensated with good build management and planning.
