Are there any differences in base weapons

When I say base weapons I mean the weapons as an equal comparable base to one another (eg standard sword\axe\mace)

Like Skyrim for example where of the onehanded weapons:
Swords swung fastest with lesser damage per hit
War Axe Middle of the road of the three
Mace swung slowest but most damage per hit

Or in ESO is it just cosmetic as to what you like the look of and the real difference is whether you want to go two handed or one handed?

Oh yeah and does dagger differ than the other 6 as dagger is small one handed weapon?

the difference lies in the passive of the appropriate weapon skill line (dual wield/2handed/destruction staff)

Ah right so you are saying that as I am a dual wielder (made sense being a Dunmer) its the Dual Wield skill line that makes the difference and makes no difference which I dual wield with from two swords to an axe and a mace?

    Similar to skyrim

Plus look at your duel wield passives...or one handed passives, im pretty sure they have s difference depending on your weapon you

Weapon Passives have more of an effect on the weapons than the weapons themselves. However it is much easier to get a high critical chance with daggers for example. And, the different staffs have different ways of dealing damage that may or may not work with your playstyle. Using One Handed and Shield, you can do a decent amount of damage with a Shield Bash so it's almost as good as having two weapons. I find the two handed weapons are slower, in particular with the skills being used. So, there are some differences in the weapons that can affect how you play the game. But, it really comes down to what you like to use more so than what is most effective overall.

If your still leveling and getting loot all the time, pick up different weapons and try them.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I think what the op is looking for is the following:

    Daggers: higher crit chance
    Swords: increased damage
    Maces: increased armour penetration
    Axes: additional bleed damage

This only applies for dual wield and 2-handed and only if you invested skill points in the passive. For dual wield you'll either get 2 different bonuses or 1 bonus with doubled intensity.
