Cloaks!!

So i saw a while back that in one of the vids ZOS put out they had a imperial in full armor with a cloak on.
There was alot of talk about this and having them put in but i never saw if ZOS actual commented on weather they where going to put cloaks or back pieces in the game or not.
Anyone got any idea if they are looking to add them or are they staying clear because as i type this i can see the main rouge char guy to my left with his hood and cloak and he look *** bad ass would love my NB to have a cloak would complete his look.

Sure did. But to the topic at hand, cloaks sound cool, capes sound dumb. Never understood why every adventurer in a universe would run around wearing a cape. Just isn't practical. Are we all adventuring and entering battle wearing the dress attire of some prissy noble?1 -

Okay, so I am ambivalent to the issue of cloaks and capes. I like them, but in almost every game in which I've seen them, they look like crap. Well, unless you're standing perfectly still doing absolutely nothing.
But what other Elder Scrolls game was released with capes/cloaks? I'm trying to remember ... admittedly I've never played Arena or Daggerfall, but Morrowind was GOTY and had no cloaks and Oblivion was GOTY and had no cloaks and Skyrim was GOTY and, guess what? You got it! No cloaks.
But yes, Tera has cloaks. And I'm sure there's a bunch of Korean MMOs that have cloaks. And capes. And other things ...

✭They nixed cloaks because it would have been difficult to implement them in the game and animate properly. In the end it would have been more difficult to do than it would have been worth. Also, it probably would have caused even more strain on the game animating cloaks. They have enough trouble keeping the game running smooth as it is. If they can't do cloaks right, then there's really no use in implementing them (wish the same could be said for a lot of other things <_< ).0 -

For what it's worth, I know Havok has had this tech available for several years. It shows up in games with very limited character creation or where the game requires that you play a particular character.
So the tech is available. But can they make it work without clipping?
I honestly don't think they can. Look at the armor now. The models are currently placed to avoid clipping and so, on some characters, you have that strange floating armor piece on the knee or over the hip. It's ugly and I really do not like it.
So capes can be made. They been made by modders in games like Oblivion and Skyrim where the character bodies were more static. Cloaks of Skyrim is awesome, but the mod comes with this warning:

A- Afraid so. Some clipping is inevitable, as the cloaks can't be made to work flawlessly with every armour/clothing type. Re: clipping of feet - the hide cloaks won't clip, as they are attached to the feet. The linen/burlap cloaks will clip with the feet, as they aren't attached. However, if attached, the flowing movements of the cloak would then be lost. I personally prefer the way the linen cloak moves, so the clipping is a minor inconvenience for me. but I can understand if it is a turn-off for you. If it is intolerable, I'd recommend using the hide cloak variants or the shorter capes.
I suspect one of the reason there are no capes in the game (apart from the animation and lag issues) is that choices had to be made. The more options give for character customization; the less option available for fluid clothing.

Even if no other elder scrolls game has them they showed them in the video ZOS put out abit back, so they had them in the game....just got no idea why they did not go through with it, and "we could not make it work" is a dumb answer seeing as every other game makes it work and they already have the ability to add them into the game from the video they put out is all.0 -

True if they cant do it right then best wait till it is done right...just really strange that they can have a GIANT anchor thing fall from the sky and have siege engines firing massive rocks....yet cloaks gave them trouble? lol its weird.0 -
