Silver bolts ability...yeah right lol. I would love to see a crossbow skill line too though!

Saying that, I wish two handed weapons were split up into their own separate skill lines. You know Warhammers, Greatswords and Battleaxes actually having their own specific skills. Little things like this irk me about some game developments lol. Same can easily be said for the one handed weapons too.

FFXI and to a lesser extent FFXIV had lances, spears and the like. Bad MMOs can't handle variety!

Only NPCs can use spears at the moment, typically the Fighters Guild; they have basic animations, nothing too fancy.

Not an MMO, used to play Dungeon Lords, had spears and polearms. Combat in that game was combo based, could make some utterly insane combos with them, wiping out hordes of wolves without them even getting near you, saying that, is probably why spears and polearms are a taboo in games, melee range is just friggin OP, as they should be, is not for nothing pikeman and the likes where placed on the front of a marching army back in those days ...

Actually made a suggestion about it during beta, of course didnt happen, still hasnt happen so you can be sure youll never see them.
Also do not know what it is about spears and polearms that are so hard to get into a game, same with crossbows. Is it that hard to code or something? You always get the maces, swords, axes, bows, daggers, staffs and thats it .... WHY?
Havent seen a crossbow or spear in ES games since Morrowind ... vanilla that is.

    Yeah, I'm all for this.
Some ideas for the skills and names in a polearm line (all damage values are undecided):
Light attack: A simple jab or a slash.
Heavy attack: Like an overhead downwards stab?

Ability 1: Quick Strike - Lash out at the enemy, dealing X damage and reducing the target's damage by X% for 10 seconds.
Morph 1: Wrenching Strike - Stab the enemy in the gut, causing X damage and bleed for X damage over 10 seconds.
Morph 2: Spinning Lashes - Spin around, dealing X damage to all enemies, knocking them back 4 metres.

Ability 2: Leaping Stab - Leap upon the enemy with a vicious downwards strike, dealing X damage and causing bleed for X damage over 4 seconds.
Morph 1: Silencing Leap - Launch yourself at the enemy and deal X damage to target and X bleed damage over 4 seconds. Casting targets are set off balance.
Morph 2: Lightning Strike - Teleport to the enemy in a flash of lightning, dealing X magic damage and always hits critically. Scales off magicka.

Ability 3: Leg Sweep - Sweep the legs out from under the enemy, dealing X damage and knocking them down for 2 seconds.
Morph 1: Shattering Sweep - Shatter the enemy's leg, leaving them immobile after they get up for 4 seconds.
Morph 2: Vicious Swing - Knock down all enemies in front of you for 2 seconds, dealing X damage spread across all hit.

Ability 4: Ending Blow - Jump up and stab downwards at the enemy, dealing X damage, scaling up to X% based on the target's health (more damage against injured enemies).
Morph 1: Heaven's Fist - Invoke the Aedra to lend you their strength, jumping up and dealing X magic damage scaling up to X% based on the target's health (more damage against injured enemies). Now scales off max magicka.
Morph 2: Cruel Ending - Stab the enemy at their weakest point, dealing X damage, scaling up to X% based on the target's health. Damage also increased against enemies that are knocked down.

Ability 5: Spear Whirl: Spin your weapon in a defensive stance, blocking all projectiles over 3 seconds.
Morph 1: Charged Stance - Charge your spear with blue light (like inner light looking), blocking all spell projectiles over 4 seconds. Scales off magicka.
Morph 2: Shielding Whirl - Spin your weapon in a defensive stance, blocking all projectiles over 3 seconds. Provides an X damage shield when effect ends.

Feel free to leave other ability ideas below - I'd love to hear what you think!

There are some great ideas in here. Wish ZOS would try this out. The whole reason I play Templar is for the Spear animations. Spear + Shield was one of the most effective combinations in old school warfare, it's insane it's not already in the game. LET ME BE ACHILLES

Few games based on the three Kingdom era (dynasty warriors) have spears, there are or were a few mom's for the genre and did have good movement and skills for the spears, halberds and glaives

While not a spear there are NPCs in Orsinium that bear racks of javelins on their backs. They mostly seem to use that one tmplar knockdown ability as well so Telel is unsure if it's just a visual indicator of their class skills or if this is a sign of what we may see in the future.

Even if it is just a visual indicator it is perhaps something ZOS could easily implement as a cosmetic item for players to wear.
    Character: Telel
    Class: Night Blade-Werewolf-viking-ninja-catgirl-mallet wielder
Past times: Refusing to go full magika spec, hitting things with a big hammer, sniping, and speaking in khajiit
Also: Gelel the Derp Knight, Altsel the streaker, and Filafel the temp temp.

Khajiit has a twitch stream! https://twitch.tv/telel_khajiit feel free to come see how truly unskilled Telel is.

These sound more like Polearm techniques than spear techniques. I'm not saying you would never swing a spear, its just better generally to poke with them most of the time (that's why they have the shiny pokey ending). Also you get the most reach from the weapon when its used as a spear as opposed to a cudgel. The cudgel techniques would be nice to know, but I'd like to at least see all polearms more about striking at range on most of the skills, even the Glaives and such.

This is why I played Templar too, that and the whole Stendarr vibe of the class fit the Imperial Legion Knight concept I had going for my first character more than any other class. When I think Imperial Soldier, Templar Knight is the first thing that comes to mind at least thematically.
